Your videos and explanations are so good and effective! Thank you- I am a 59 year old Gramma and HATE calling my kids for help(they are great but I want to learn myself) and your videos WORK!!! Thank you so much
My macbook doesn't have the Airplay icon option to click on in the Display section. Is this because it's older than the macbook you are using in this video?
Same here, and we can no longer connect via HDMI, Apple want their customers to buy Apple monitors and not use our tv as a monitor. I can’t use Mirror sharing either.
I'm in a hotel, my TV in my room doesn't have HDMI but more of the Red, Yellow small ports ( Don't know the name lol), how would I connect in this case?
You mean RCA ports? I'm a bit late here to comment but like someone else suggested, you're better off using your phone or laptop. RCA would degrade a ton of video quality due to how old it is. If you're curious of the solution you would need an RCA to (whatever your computer port is) connector. However, finding CRA adapters is a bit tricky due to the old technology.
Hello. First of all, thank you for this, it is helpful. I have a question. I was watching a movie last night on my tv. I connected my MacBook to the tv via HDMI, but how do I get the MacBook display to turn off while I watch something on my tv? Is this even possible? It was possible o my old windows computer. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you!
Good video and explanation, just a quick question. If I wanted to do this and close the MacBook and get a wireless mouse and keyboard would I just be able to leave the macbook closed and just use the Tv or will it turn off once I close it ? Thanks in advance.
I am concerned of the speed. if I were to watch a video (from a random website) from my browser, will it play seamlessly on the TV? which option is best for that use case? Thanks:)
Just about any option using a wire from the Mac to the tv will be fine. However, if your internet is slow and the video is choppy, then that's a network issue.
have a macbook pro, using a USBC C to vga/ hdmi monitor adapter to connect to computer monitor and macbook pro does not recognize the external 2nd display... any solutions.
Hard to say. USB-C has multiple versions, so does HDMI ex. HDMI 2.0, 2.1, etc. Unfortunately what should be simple, can be complicated. If you're not concerned with mirroring the best quality of your Mac (from mirroring a movie or something), don't overthink it. Research a good quality solution with good customer reviews, that is easiest for you and use it. If it's no good, then return it.
I was having trouble using my Samsung Smart HDTV as an external display while trying to watch movies with my Apple TV app on my Mac book. I didn't want to Airplay with my MacBook, as I wanted to use an HDMI cable from my laptop directly to my TV. Whenever I tried to watch a movie on my HDTV I would get a message saying that it couldn't because of HDCP issues. I then decided to download the movies to my computer and to my surprise I was then able to view the movies with no problem. In the process I made sure that I went to my account setting on Apple TV app on my laptop and authorized my computer with my Apple ID. Not sure which process solved the problem. So if downloading movies solved the problem, or authorizing my account within the Apple TV app solved the problem it worked. Hope this will help folks who are having similar issues while trying to stream movies on an external display.
Technically yes but your Mac might still act like the main screen if it's set to expand the display and not duplicate. If that happens, you would need to find a method to make the TV as the main display.
Whichever view you choose, for instance as long as the TV is mirroring the Mac then sound will automatically play from the TV, but I’m sure you can alter sound output in the settings via the Mac
I have used the HDMI wire successfully with my macbook Pro, where SOUND transferred. Now I have a new airbook and the video shows up but NOT the sound. Ideas?
Instead of an adapter, for the wired method can you use a single cable that at one end has a USB-C fitting and the other end has an HDMI fitting and connect directly? I’m trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my projector and wanted to know if this would work
Can you watch movies on Netflix, Disney etc. with USB-C to HDMI cable? Everything is ok until you want to do that. You will have a sound but no video. Do you have a solution for that??
Thanks you❤ The backlight went out on my Mac book. I took it to the Apple Store and those bastards wanted 598$ to replace it.😑😑😒😒🤨🤨😑 I can get a new laptop with that amount of money.

Exactly what I needed the way I needed to hear it. No hyperbole. Thanks much.

Thanks. I was all set to buy more adapters. Convoluted solution! Then you explain a function I never knew my TV or Mac book had. Voilla. Immediate.
Glad it helped!

Bruh just watch in your phone.

Can the whole screen be mirrored wirelessly with chromecast? My TV doesn't support AirPlay
Good video and explanation, just a quick question. If I wanted to do this and close the MacBook and get a wireless mouse and keyboard would I just be able to leave the macbook closed and just use the Tv or will it turn off once I close it ? Thanks in advance.
yes! just make sure the Mac is connected to power
Will there be sound on the TV?
Yes!

Wired method doesn't work very well for me. A major lag between Macbook & TV, and the audio is crackled. Not sure how to fix that...

You are sooooo good! Thank you!!!!!!!
You're so welcome!
Are using chromecast for the wireless method?
Thank you. Can i use the same method for a mac mini? Also, can a Mac mini support a monitor and and a TV at same time? Thanks.
I am concerned of the speed. if I were to watch a video (from a random website) from my browser, will it play seamlessly on the TV? which option is best for that use case? Thanks:)

I assumed latency is better for wired methods?
Does the thunderbolt port can be used ?
Hi ... thinking of buying the new Mac Mini M2 ... do you think i can connect by HDMI cable? Thanks

If I use a usb c to usb cord and take a usb to hdmi cord can I use that with my MacBook Air to mirror ?
Perfect
Thank you. Unfortunately my Mac Air(2015) doesn't have USB-C port but USB-A. Can you tell me how to connect them for this case ?

have a macbook pro, using a USBC C to vga/ hdmi monitor adapter to connect to computer monitor and macbook pro does not recognize the external 2nd display... any solutions.
how do we set up the audio component? So far my mac air display is mirrored on the TV, but the audio is still coming from my mac..
Which method is better to pass the signal, hdmi to usb c or hdmi to hdmi?
Hard to say. USB-C has multiple versions, so does HDMI ex. HDMI 2.0, 2.1, etc. Unfortunately what should be simple, can be complicated. I have a MacBook Air m2....type c to hub & hdmi cable & weyona tv...what do I need to tick in my Mac to get it to recognise the tv?
when doing the wired method, could the sound come from the mac instead of tv? or is it only strictly from the tv
Whichever view you choose, for instance as long as the TV is mirroring the Mac then sound will automatically play from the TV, but I’m sure you can alter sound output in the settings via the Mac
Super easy to follow. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I have used the HDMI wire successfully with my macbook Pro, where SOUND transferred. Now I have a new airbook and the video shows up but NOT the sound. Ideas?
Well, it ask me to enter a code. Where should I create a code of 4 digits?
How do I add to my to if I can’t see my MacBook screen due to damage etc

Instead of an adapter, for the wired method can you use a single cable that at one end has a USB-C fitting and the other end has an HDMI fitting and connect directly? I’m trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my projector and wanted to know if this would work
I think it should work, one problem might be length. But you can always use an hdmi extender (15$ at Walmart)
Can you watch movies on Netflix, Disney etc. with USB-C to HDMI cable? Everything is ok until you want to do that. You will have a sound but no video. Do you have a solution for that??
I’m getting sound and my desktop screen coming from my tv but I can’t get the show to appear
