Just want to thank you for the well put together video. I was not terribly confident to tackle this job on my own but after watching your video several times I was able to get it done. Could not have done it without you!
Your video was perfect - after watching it I was able to confirm the diagnosis and get the tools I needed in advance - the job went smoother that I ever would have imagined imagined! Thank You!!
This is a great video. I was a little worried about how we were going to make this happen on my son's '98 Jeep Cherokee, but after watching this, the mystery is gone! Thank you for putting this video out!
Great video! We swapped ours out in about 1/2 hour thanks to learning how to do it from your video. And yes, we disconnected the battery cable first. Thanks for taking the time to make the video! Stay Safe!!!
Excellent video. I followed along and discovered the clockspring was not broken but the turn signal switch was. Returned clockspring and got new switch. Anyway, I probably would not have attempted to do this repair without your video. Thanks! (and yes there was no way the steering wheel was coming off without a wheel puller).
Great video. I have a 97 also. I just replaced the clock spring today. Didn’t fix my problem ( horn not working/ airbag light on). This was a doorman brand for $129. I never check the fuses, if it’s not that, I might bring the clock spring back. But, your videos are great,! This video was extremely helpful!
Just for good measure, I ordered another clock spring today from the auto parts store that will serve as a replacement to the new, possibly faulty one I put in this weekend. Hopefully that’s all it is, and I’ll get a refund for the part I ordered today. I grew up driving junk that I had to keep going, and learned how to do repairs in the late 80’s onward. Boy, would UA-cam have come in handy back in the day pulling all nighters working on cars with my buddies! But, you have great delivery and know what you’re doing; keep up the good work/videos.
@@AxlesGarage Yep, you are in LAX country. I have a Jr. in HS that has been playing since 1st grade. He want to play in college, we will see how it works out. HNY and thanks for all the good videos.
Thank you for this video! I just got mine swapped out after watching. Literally took me 1/2 hour. Horn works now, airbag light is out! AWESOME! ...and greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada
Awesome, awesome, awesome video! I'm a novice and knocked this out in 30 minutes because if your video. It took me longer to go to Autozone for the Steering Wheel Puller (on their Rental Program for free with $20 deposit) than it did to do the job! Keep it up, brother!
Enjoyed the video and information! Still in the researching phase and the clock spring is probably the culprit. Two nights ago, at 1:00 AM, my horn on my 97 Wrangler was stuck full on! No air bag light or any other problems. I've checked the relay and it's not the problem. Thanks again and I'm sure if I have any misspelled words someone will correct me.
I’m just starting a rebuild of the steering column on my daughter’s TJ; great how-to! I can do a CJ/YJ in my sleep, but this is my first time into a TJ: great stuff! Thank you! Saved me some time already; I just ordered the clockspring so I have it on hand. Her ignition is intermittent and the turn signal doesn’t self cancel, so 40 bucks at Rockauto
Just finished this on my '98 wrangler -- took aboout 45 minutes. Just a word to wise -- DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST !!! Then wait about 10 minutes or so before messing with the airbag. Good chance that nothing will happen but better safe than sorry. I would suggest using a steering wheel puller, it makes the job alot easier. I picked one up at Harbor Freight for $35. This was a pretty straight forward job-- just take your time...Thanks for the video !!!!!
Thanks man for sharing. My friend changed the indicator 3 times believing that it was faulty for not getting canceled when turning the wheel back. He also lost the horn and has airbag signal on all the time so it is definitely the clock spring. thanks again !
thanks for this video! my jeep TJ 1997 the clock spring need to be replaced just now and I am looking for the Steering Wheel Puller is not available on my country.
Thanks for the perfect video on this job! Gonna tackle my 98 TJ no horn problem this weekend and your straightforward information was just what I needed.
could you please tell me which clock spring did you use to replace the old one? I have a 2000 jeep wrangler TJ and I have this problem with the airbag light popping up and also when I push the horn it wont stop and will just keep honking. The onlyway ive found to fix that is to take the fuse off but then I have no honk. id be great to know what is the best clock spring for this car. nice video and keep up the good work.
question.. my jeep needs to be aligned.. does that need to happen before I change the clock spring? I have other work to do to it before i should get it aligned but need to replace the clock spring also.. someone told me that it needs to be aligned before changing the clock spring or it will short it out.. is that true or can i just change it???
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd, that needs a new clock switch, apparently. I got quoted $2000. for one in Canada! Horn is disabled now. Can I drive it without a new clock switch? The car is in Mexico.
Hi. Can you tell me where I can the replacement clock spring for the 97. My horn and airbag are fine...but my turn signal cancel won't work for either side. Quadratec doesn't carry it..thanks.
I loved the excitement and look on his face before and when he said "we're done", before further realizing the work is never, ever done on a fucking tj = ( Thanks for the guide, changing mine now.... god knows what will pop up after this to prevent it from passing inspection next.
I have the opposite problem. The Airbag light is on and the horns is stuck on. I disconnected the wires on the horn. That could be the same problem? The clock spring?
It could be, but you need to verify the horn circuit is actually working first, Button and relay/fuses. Your gonna have to probe for power before and after the clock spring, and add power to see where the 'break' is. Good Luck
I have a 1997 Wranger TJ, last night the horn honked by itself nonstop; I don't any security system. To stop it , i disconnect the battery to stop it. What would the cause of it?
Rock Auto has a listing for them. Its under, Interior, then airbag. Standard Brand, Dorman or Wells. If you have the extra bucks, I hear the MOPAR brand it the best bet. Thanks for watching.
Did this! Horn works and airbag light is off! But in the process I think I messed up my turn signals?! Right signal is fine Left signal only works on the back and goes really fast?! Anybody have the same issue?!
SERIOUSLY? You disassembled your airbag without disconnecting the negative terminal and letting the capacitors bleed down for 20 minutes??? No torque wrench with proper torque specs and thread locker on the shaft nut? Wow.
ALWAYS disconnect your battery when working with airbags. And never sit directly infront of the air bag on first start up after working on them. You don't want to be in the way of an accidental deployment
@@AxlesGarage im all for doing redneck stuff but, playing with an electrically charged explosive needs some precautions lol. Great video though, its the only one I needed to watch!
Great video. The mechanic had quoted $1000 to fix the airbag light. Only took me 30 minutes and the part was $100. You saved me a lot of money!!
Glad it helped

Just a TIP whenever working with Airbag systems you ALWAYS DISCONNECT Battery first.
Yes, good advice. I got lucky. Thanks for watching.

I am mostly certain that I need to replace this part and this video is super helpful. Can't wait to fix my airbag light 🤣
You can do it!
I’m having same issue with my 2004 Wrangler X does it use same item as seen in this video?
Yes it does, but it may be a different part number.
I am about to do one. The video was very informative. Thank you. Greetings from Australia ;-)

WOW Great Job. I got a 97 wrangler needs a clock spring. Thank You for the VIDEO

Can I drive without a clockspring to install an aftermarket grant steering wheel
I notice you did not remove the negative battery terminal. Is it not necessary?
you are correct, I did not, but you absolutely should. I got lucky
I would have just because I'd be afraid of accidentally discharging the expensive airbag
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd, that needs a new clock switch, apparently. I got quoted $2000. for one in Canada! Horn is disabled now. Can I drive it without a new clock switch? The car is in Mexico.
Yes, you can drive with a bad clock spring, you turn signals just wont, cancel. Possibly the airbag and/or horn won't work.
Thanks that was genuine and informative, Bless you and your Daughter.
Thank you. It was much easier than I though it would be. I had put it off for quite a while. Thanks for watching.

Horn relay, or horn button.
My horn works but I have absolutely no signals and no brake lights and my radio stopped working. Could the clock spring be my problem?
No, no way
did this on my 2001 XJ👌🏽
Thanks for watching.
I wonder how many people did this withe the battery connected
Maybe
Yes but what about cruise control in wheel?
No cruise control in that Jeep, but if there were its just another wire to unplug and replug. Thanks for watching
Do you have any recommendations on where to purchase the clock spring online? or places / brands to avoid?

Might want to fix the spelling error in the video. You spelled it "Warangler" but it's actually Wrangler .
OOps thanks
Don't forget the first thing to do is disconnect the battery and let the air bag capacitor discharge (about 20 minutes). Thanks for posting
Great tip
"Left turn, Clyde!"
Yep;)
Thanks it made fixing easier

The dad I never had...😓
Thank you for the kind sentiment.
Not disconnecting the battery and letting the electricity in capacitors and circuits is a high risk of one spark blowing that airbag up!
Yes, my bad. Thanks for Watching.
