Brian Wilson's attention to subtle harmonic changes are amazing. Those jazzy chord changes are amazing and kinda sad it does get a little drowned in the final mix.
The subtlties of the harmonies are almost completely buried in the released track. When I first heard this I was speechless because I didn't know what amazing harmonies were really there. I wonder why they were mixed slightly louder? Or does the final track actually have the same harmonies? It sounds so different.
This is a different take than the final track. They are singing in "ah's" instead of "ooh's", which is what is in the final track. The harmonies are mostly identical, but several parts are slightly changed. At the part where they would sing "for so long I thought about it", Brian's falsetto harmony goes up higher here than it does in the final track, where it instead descends. Brian probably didn't like the timbre and the sharpness of the "ah's", so he changed it to "ooh's", or rather a kind of stoned out "uuh" to make it smoother. Smoothness and mellowness was his real goal for this song, seeing as how it was the first song he wrote under the influence of cannabis.
@@AlexDeLarge1 man but imagine how heavinly it would be if they singed it with AAHH voices like this! The song its perfect, but it could bring more emotional power
I have said for decades that the Beach Boys were not a surf group but what we later called a doowop group. How could anyone listen to their close harmonies and Brian's falsetto tenor parts with and without music and say differently.
Sounds great, but A cappella infers that the voices are not accompanied by instruments. All that has happened here is the instrument tracks have been removed. I know... I am splitting hairs.
mike sang that lead part while the backing vocals were being recorded. but when they recorded brian’s lead vocal at a later time, he sang it as well, on top of it. so it’s basically two mikes and one brian (in the final mix at least) lol
swear...that's as close to angel's voices as it comes.
Just wait till they get in heaven the lord almighty will be pleased
Also that one part in Sloop John B

No words can express the emotions this song makes one feel
brain peering through the control booth window into the studio, looking "are those guys doing it like I told them?"
Unbelievable God Given voices that blended so well through rich harmonies...
wonderful stuff, brian is truly a genius.
One of the best harmony parts ever written, for me at least ! Cool picture of Brian on here too

The best moment is near the end, 0:42-0:47. Brian soars in over the top, and the other guys get really tight together as they converge on those notes

Where's the last video you mentioned in your description

Is it me, or does this have a Mike Love lead?
Brian and Mike sing the lead together.
