Probably. Definitely in the top but, there's a few that are so amazing, it would be fair to call each one the best You guys all forgot their version of We Three Kings Of Orient Are. Dick Reynolds did the musical arrangement but, Brian did the vocal arrangement. Personally, I cried when I first heard it
$8 is a bit steep - just wait several decades until UA-cam. Unfortunately so many great BB songs were never played on US FM radio. Fortunately we now have the interwebs.
This is damn scary as "out of this world" of non human ability... Lifetime Beach Boys fan here since a kid in 60's and this cut makes hair stand on your neck. it is beyond human perfection...
I don't mean all this *literally*, but it sounds like Brian wasn't just a genius, but like he had such a special sensitivity, an openness of spirit that he could act as a conduit between some heavenly realm and the earth. It doesnt sound like he invented the music with his own cleverness, but like the music existed and he was the only one who could hear it, and passed it along to everyone else. Hearing those harmonies and the phrasing and dynamics, that's all I can think of. It creates a magic that's greater than the sum of its parts. It comes from some other place and breathes life into the harmonies. It sounds like love and feels like clouds parting and golden beams breaking through and shimmering on the water. Pure. I think it takes more than just human voices to create that.
Up til now I could never quite put my finger on how listening to Beach Boys song like this one made me feel. I just figured it out. It's like eating candy...sweet and gooey...and complete pleasure! Thank you Boys for 50 years of deliciousness. 😘😘😘😘😘
It's like being ten years old and waking up on Christmas morning PLUS Disneyland PLUS Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory. That's what it felt like when I heard this on The Beach Boys' "Spirit of America" compilation album.
Outstanding vocals, some of the best Brian every arranged and the Boys ever recorded. I'm curious about the "dry" quality of the vocals...no reverb or brightness...I doubt this was an accident, Brian would never be so careless!
It might be so dry because of the amount of overlay in the vocals, if all the vocals were drenched in reverb it would create a lot of dynamic dysfunctions in the mix.
this was the song which unusually appeared on the Spirit of America album of 1975. Always one of my favorites ever. Very unique. Drama, soul, emotions. and, Brian co-wrote this sone with his father.
I believe they had only eight tracks on the tape to work with. Plus I believe Brian mixed everything down into mono during that period...so stuff got lost in the mix. Listen to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" vocals only...you can NOT hear all that vocal material in the final mix.
Alan Jardine hits the HIGH Falsetto notes, here. I cannot follow his voice. Carl Dean does the high tenor voice. I can still hit those notes. Oh, June 7th, Chicago and the Brian Wilson band, will be here in Phoenix. Alan and Matt will be there. Dennis Carl and Carl Dean, only in our dreams. steve
+Gary Knight According to Brian Wilson, his father Murry came up with the idea of this song from watching The Joey Bishop Show on television while it proclaimed, "We're gonna break for a minute and we'll be right back!". Brian, at his piano, then composed the song with Murry as they "plunked and plunked and plunked" and "finally got a song going." When asked why Murry used a pseudonym, Brian responded: "I don't know. He was nutty. He was crazy, that was his fictitious name." At another time, Brian has said that The Monkees inspired him to write this song.[citation needed]
I can break away from this lonely life and do what i want to do..... Do what i want to do Do what i want to do Do what i want to do I want to break away, break away I WANT TO BREAK AWAY I WANT TO BREAK AWAY PLEASE I WANT TO BREAK AWAY
It's Carl singing lead from 0:18 to 0:45, then it's Brian until the chorus, which is Al. Second verse is all Carl. Tricky, hey! (On the alternate Hawthorne version, it's all Brian on the first verse.)
Carls voice ,was almost angelic.it was so musically pure, that it was simply incredible.Brian.Mike and Al were/are unique, but I personally always felt that Carl was the glue of the Beach Boys..both in terms of the effect he actuality had in keeping. them going through bad periods but his voice wsas the glue that held their sound together so tightly.
at times it sounds like it's Carl and Brian double tracked and trying to sound as close to each other as possible. The "I can break away" section is Al Jardin. Something about Brian's vocal arrangements from this period is so bright, expansive. He was always changing, there isn't just one style of Beach Boys harmony
When I laid down on my bed (listening to this) I heard voices in my head, telling me now "hey! it's not only a dream, it's the Beach Boys doing their magic".
You better take this video down ASAP or we're never going to get any more good stuff like this from the source! I just don't understand why people HAVE to share something after being told the rules.
Man, I'm so damn lucky to be alive and have ears!
Yours might be my favorite all time comment.
Seriously! Best comment. Ever.
Who needs instruments with voices like this?!
Would've liked an "Unplugged" version.
In my opinion this is the best vocal arrangement Brian ever did.
This and Our Prayer
And Cabin Essence, Surf's Up, and I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
Forgot Let's Go Away For A While of course
Probably. Definitely in the top but, there's a few that are so amazing, it would be fair to call each one the best

One of the most underrated Beach Boys songs.

Angelic euphoria. How can one top this?
the list of underrated beach boys songs would be like 100 songs long

@@hollyodell4012 I couldn't agree with you more. Seen them 4 times in my lifetime, last was 50th Anniv of Pet Sounds tour.
6 years after my original post. I still feel the same. Soon we will be losing Brian I feel sadly...
Magic and unbeatable! Brian's vocal arrangements are without peer in pop music history.
The irony that one of their best songs would be co-written with Murray!
They don't even need instruments for this song! It's amazing!!! Their voices are the instruments 😍😍😍
I know! Like it was a Divinely Inspired event... How else do you describe this...?
As a Beach Boys fan i have to say that this is my favourite Beach Boys song.Listen to the layers of textured harmonies,Brian Wilson was a genius then.
This and Kiss Me, Baby are my favorite BB vocal arrangements.
Instruments? INSTRUMENTS? We don't need no stinkin' instruments!
Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a TERRIFIC film. Breakaway is a TERRIFIC song.😀
there is a difference in Carl and Brians voice but sound pretty damn close!
Especially in the early years 65-69. They were brothers after all.
Brians's genius is on full display. here.

When they get going full sail it just about sets my hair on end - it's like an angelic choir!
EXACTLY !!!
I can’t believe this didn’t make a hit in the USA, but it did in the UK
Never tire of this, whatever version, just symphonic!
Some 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 tricky harmony vocals buried under the instrumental track.
I was saying to a friend how very complex BB harmonies are compared to say Queen - both groups are great though.
this was the song which unusually appeared on the Spirit of America album of 1975. Always one of my favorites ever. Very unique. Drama, soul, emotions. and, Brian co-wrote this sone with his father.
I have always loved this single. The best thing they did since Good Vibrations.
Yes one gem that gets ignored alot, great vocals and song
stunning, big hit here in England, ignored in the states!!
This is killer... from 2:00 onwards they slowed the vocals down!! I always loved that!
Mikes bass vocal are seriously genius
+Rob Dean it sounds to me like he copied from the song "Speedo" for a part of the base line.
Brian Wilson wrote and arranged the music, so it would be Mike singing what Brian composed.
Best band on vocals ever
IF they released this today, just as it is it would be a monster hit, this doesnt age and every generation can appreciate this
The BB were a unique group.
I bought the 45 back in the 60's or 70's and I never heard HALF these harmonies! WOW! Incredible!!!
I believe they had only eight tracks on the tape to work with. Plus I believe Brian mixed everything down into mono during that period...so stuff got lost in the mix. Listen to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" vocals only...you can NOT hear all that vocal material in the final mix.

"Breakaway" is a song written by Brian and his father Murry. Murry was credited as the lyricist with the pseudonym 'Reggie Dunbar'.

said that The Monkees inspired him to write this song.[citation needed]
No Murry, no Beach Boys. No Dennis, no Beach Boys. No Brian...
loop 3:26 to 3:50 and I can die with my ears happy
Brings back great memories. I was 15 and at school at the time. Absolutely fantastic.
A Brian Wilson hymn from the Church of the Beach Boys...
Una joya a Capella de los beach boys , me llena de alegría descubrir tanto talento
Miss these days.. Much simpler times. Music you could truly enjoy.
Appreciate this classic even more! Thanks for sharing
It's a whole different song without the instrumental part in Beach Boys' songs.
Thanks Darren - amazing recordings of this unique Beachboys song - cheers Dai.
If god played a harmonica it'd sound like this.
This is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard
Angelic sounding
13 people need to get ears.
Amazing harmony!
as expected from the boys from the beach!
Is that Murry Wilson singing that bass vocal in the outro?????
Ya
Fantastico ... My Respect Beach Boys
The moment at 2.25 on full blast with a pair of good headphones, will change anybody's life.
still don't understand why no one released a record with only beach boys harmonies
Those harmonies, great
That was just heavenly. WOW
Amazing! I loved this song from the first moment I've heard it, and this just blow my mind! Thanks for sharing!
I can break away from this lonely life and do what i want to do.....
Do what i want to do
Do what i want to do
Do what i want to do
I want to break away, break away
I WANT TO BREAK AWAY
I WANT TO BREAK AWAY
PLEASE
I WANT TO BREAK AWAY

@@darrenjray7115 Hat's off to you on what I believe is an accurate breakdown of lead voices. Of course, Mike has his spotlight later on.

Brian sings "that very same love that passed me by and that is why" in the first verse. The rest is all Carl and Al on lead.
Magic
perfect thanks
Murry: Lyrics, Brian: Music
Murry cooked on this one for sure!
Imagine when you leave this earth you left something as beautiful as this behind!
Exquisite.
How incredible. And it wasn't a hit.
Did these guys ever make a bad song No carl & brian wor like our lennon & mcartney legend s in our time
anyone know who does the 'ooh ooh, ooh ooooh' higher harmony at 0:10?
i'm thinking it's either carl, bruce or al jardine. i really love it
the higher legato one is carl but the one that’s more punchy is al
magic!
You can hear Brian's voice starting to go in the beginning of this
And these harmonies are just a complete religious experience
Still good falsetto at 2:26
5:20 incredible
so good
pure music, woo woo woo
Fab
There’s that bitter sweet feeling you get in a Beach Boys song that they were so good at.
When I laid down on my bed (listening to this) I heard voices in my head, telling me now "hey! it's not only a dream, it's the Beach Boys doing their magic".
1:18 4:25
Murry Wilson is a genius.
Harmonies - particularly as intricate as these are VERY hard to pull off. You don’t see many Beach Boys tribute acts.
But there is an abundance of Neil Diamond and bad Elvis tributes. Tells us something about degree of difficulty.
Incredible!
Remarkable.
Is there a Bonnie Lou cover version?

even better than the orchestred one
Beautiful...
Certainly one of their most underrated songs .. 💯🎶🎵
