I’m glad you enjoy this watch and thank you for making the video! I’ve been waiting to see this in depth on UA-cam! To me this video solidified that the MM300 professional is the watch for me. I enjoy the size in my 7 1/4 inch wrist, I enjoy the monobloc case as a quirk and interesting detail, and finally but most importantly to me, the dial and handset are just perfections. Huge lume plots, broad brushed hands just perfect. Thank you !
Undoubtedly a great watch. I owned the SLA073, which apart from the 300m certification, is just the same watch, and loved it. However, I would have loved that Seiko had kept the bigger numerals on the bezel of the limited editions SLA055 and SLA057.
They got this one right. Wish more people could see these in person. Would help people understand the price point. Those who know, know. Very nice watch. Enjoy it!
Seiko absolutely nailed it with this release. Definitely going to be picking it up when the watch fund tops up. Just need a good review of the silver dial to decide which colourway I'm going with.
Pure perfection from Seiko ! This is the smaller , thinner MM300 I've been dreaming about for yearsss , plus me being an absolute sucker for symmetry and no dates on a diver , the 4:30 inconspicuous black date window/wheel with the full 3 o'clock hour marker looks too damn good ( the symmetrical lume shots are satisfying asff to look at ). The 1968 diver 6159 and its evolutions in the form of the MM300's are the only divers watch design language that I like apart from the Rolex Submariner ( no date for the casuals , but it should just be called the Submariner , not a Submariner no date ) , but I could never bring myself to buy one cuz of numerous reasons ( the size , the thickness , that odd small sized dial and handset for such big watch just looked too off visually , those stupid long links on and clasp , I like me divers to have a bezel sloping downwards toward the case whereas the MM300's had that tall completely flat bezel which was an eye sore to look at ) The SLA079 has solved all the things I that held me back from buying the MM300's , while also somehow retaining all the iconic characteristics, also making it even more proportionate and beautiful ( also like the LX inspired styling on this ). This is probably going to be my first Seiko watch ever , can't get any more perfect than this and I'm getting well rewarded for my patience and restraint over the years ( restrained myself from buying and of the 4r or 6r mid range bs and held out for the perfect high end SLA stuff ) Thanks for the great video , you are probably my favourite channel to watch Seiko reviews on as you share the same amount of passion and enthusiasm for Seiko as I do ! Keep doing the great work you do ! one this I would like to suggest is that you add a few outdoor wrist rolls and moving around the watch in sunlight shots to give us a better perspective on how it looks IRL , Thanks !
Something about those angular lugs with a mix of polish and brushed sides is just so exquisite and flows so beautifully from the side of the watch. Capped off with a 4 O'clock crown calling card that is Seiko. This puts the GS Diver to shame when it comes to design, maybe they need a new company: Grand Prospex 😅
Great video! You are spot on on everything. I've been enjoying the (opaline) white dial SLA077. A very happy purchase indeed. As I've been on a mass reduction to maintain a very tight and concentrated watch collection, one thing I've been missing and waiting to reintroduce and maintain in my collection is a Seiko. But which one? Which could be THE definitive Seiko for me? Seiko has so many original designs which can be iconic within their respective genres. But, their dive watches are probably THE most iconic and innovative. And there are so many great Seiko dive watch designs. But, I have to say the 6159-7001 based design, the colloquial "Marinemaster 300" style that so many admire, is probably my favorite of all the designs. Thus, I was super excited when the SLA077/79 were announced. And, I basically knew the SLA077 would be THE Seiko and THE dive watch that will be my main watch for a long time. Yes, pricey. but, i did get a discount on mine. I figure buy one great designed and quality Seiko dive watch a be done with it... For now.
Picked up the SLA077, the white version. The movment is very accurate out of the box. Huge upgrade from a 6R movemnet. Only complaints are a hot spot on the caseback as the wave design is recessed. The polished accents on the bracelet are actually separate parts of the links. Your arm hairs will catch every once in awhile. Not a deal breaker. The finish on the stainless is a bit "sticky" are first. Itll probably get better with time. Pros...LUME!!! love this lume. If youre a seikoholic its worth picking up.
@@dikkie1000 I feel like some of the more tech-heavy deep divers would probably be better suited in the LX line and any modern Marinemasters should have some additional level of refinement towards wearability included, so if they did bring back something like the SBDB011 MM600 Spring Drive GMT, for me it'd be more of an LX model, while a Hi-Beat 8L55 powered Tuna in 45mm or less would feel more Marinemaster-like.
I know this is a great watch and it looks awesome 🤩 but being the new owner of my SLA047J1 MM300 my grail of grail watches I can’t help but think Seiko has watered down the original design of the legendary Marine Master watch . You mentioned you’re paying less but you’re getting less . The case is no longer and monoblock case , it’s no longer a saturation diver , the bezel is no longer ceramic bezel. It’s not that I don’t like it but to me and again now owning the traditional MM300 it just seems to that Seiko is pissing on my leg and telling me it’s raining 🌧. With that said I live near a Seiko Lux dealer ( Little Treasury Jewelers) and am excited to check this watch out in person. Maybe 🤔 I might have a change of heart . One thing I forgot to mention the loss of the Marine Master clasp is definitely a deal breaker for me . If I did own this watch I definitely buy a original MM300 clasp and add it to the bracelet.
I tried this on at the GS boutique, the finishing / design and execution is fantastic and I like how it’s more fairly priced compared to other high end Seiko divers but the bezel grip seemed a bit sharp for me. Sometimes Seiko should focus on the modern use as well as the professional use of these higher tier watches and they can then definitely move upmarket
You’ve got to understand that Seiko won’t give the vertical circular date window for a watch with circular hour markers as it will look odd , hence the square date window
I got to try on the SPB383J1 and this SLA079 back to back. The SLA in person has a fantastic presence and reminds me of when I first tried on a great watch with great presence (Omega Seamaster). The SPB is gorgeous but the bracelet on the SLA outshines it. So in terms of a black dialed watches the SLA wins out for me. That said, the green version of the SPB is probably the most gorgeous green colored watch out there (better than the Hulk!).
It's nice but I can't stomach the price, which is unfortunate since I started the hobby with seiko but these days I'd rather go with micros or established German brands.
I agree with lower end Seiko's. the value is no longer there compared to a good micro or a brand like Christopher ward. However, with this being the 8l movement (a proper 4hz movement) and probably being able to get new unworn piece with a discount off msrp for around $2400.00 +/- I think this is a value piece. If they come out with more colors and dials I think I might be finally willing to spend more that $700 or $800 for a watch😁
@@Smcat913 why do we applaud Seiko for putting in a 4hz unregulated movement? Sw200 or miyota 9000 series can do the same with reliability at a fraction of the cost. In fact, you can get micros with a regulated sw300 at half the price of this Seiko, not worth it.
@@buckethead84 I agree with you for the most part, I would take a sw200 or miyota 9000 series over any seiko with a 4r or 6r movement. My understanding is that these movements have 0 positional variance and also use mems technology so would be more comparable to a movement from say like Tudor or somebody. with Tudor your getting a better bracelet and clasp and maybe bettter build quality I'm not sure but I look at this seiko piece as a higher quality watch than sw or miyota based watch closer to a Tudor.

Expect a new MM600 soon. I think the trio of these new Marinemasters will be the Prospex flagship models.
I'd love to see the Marinemaster branding return to the Tuna, maybe a 44mm Hi-Beat MM600 modernized Golden Tuna, ooh that'd be epic!

Would have liked a gloss black dial
Looks great!
The "original marinemaster " - 6159 is NOT a saturation diving watch. The first he-safe diver made by Seiko is the 6159 Tuna.
I wanted the white dial @ first . I think this black dial might be the one to get

Although not guaranteed by Seiko, mine hasn't lost a single second over the course of 3days since winding and setting it.

How to feel this one vs the SPB383 GMT ?
It looks very similar or almost identical to the SPB383J1, it’s hard for me to distinguish them.
