- There is always a downside to visiting popular travel destinations during Christmas time. In this video, we will summarize things you should be careful about during your Prague Christmas visit.
Everyone knows that the holiday season is the busiest time of the year, but is it like that in Prague? Will you be able to enjoy the empty streets of Prague's Old Town or cross the magical Charles Bridge alone?
What are the traditional dishes you will find at any Czech Christmas table? You might be surprised, but Czechs do not eat turkey like some other countries!
What are the actual dates when Czechs celebrate Christmas? As opposed to the rest of the world, it is not on December 25th!
Will any Prague tourist attractions remain open on Christmas? Will you need reservations for restaurants on December 24th and 25th? And will the public transport work on Christmas day? We answer all of these questions in our Prague Christmas - Watch THIS Before You Visit video.

Dear Valeria! I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I was in Prague at Christmas 2005, it was snowing and there was a very nice Christmas tree in front of Tyn Cathedral. It was wonderful and it was one of the best Christmases of my life!

There's no place I would want to be than Prague at Christmastime. Hopefully next year, things will be back to normal. When I go for Christmas, I stay at Kings Court- which is very convenient- being across from the Palladium, and has a nice restaurant with special Christmas meals for the 24th and 25th...

I just got back from Prague, and I miss it already! Christmas might not be the best time to visit, however, because of the reasons outlined in this video.
It's a mistake! Prague is the best at Christmas!
When we were in Prague last time during the 12 days of Christmas, all the churches were open. Some asked for you to put some money on the bucket, but we saw some cool places. St Vitus was the only one you still had to pay for.

I'm so enjoying your videos Valerie but.... no svářak on the street this Christmas no alcohol in public 😞. No "Christmas markets" were allowed. The farmers' market in Jiřiho z Poděbrad was a lovely non-Christmas market that offered all the things a Christmas market does without the crowds (and svářak was available to take away) and the Vinohrady residents know which potraviny/restaurant/bar is open Christmas eve and Christmas day.. In Prague from 5 to 16 December 2021, I encountered the "Christmas tram" (#2 line) so often that I started to wonder if there's more than one carriage outfitted so merrily.

I once travelled from Ireland through Prague for Christmas right before Christmas. It was ok. I had to catch a train.
We just got home from visiting the Prague and Germany Christmas Markets. We had a wonderful time and both agree the market in Prague was the best!

Great video! So maybe we'll skip the 24th and 25th but if we go the week between Christmas and New Years- how is that? Are the markets and stores/restaurants open or does everything basically shut down until after New Years?
Hi! Everything opens after 26th (still a holiday) and stays open till 31st of December. (1st of January is also a Holiday, so most shops will be closed)
Don’t be discouraged to visit here, during Christmas 🎄. It just takes a little more planning done. Making reservations for restaurants for 24th dinner and being aware that some attractions and museums might be closed on 25th and 26th. Crowds should be a little smaller 27th and 28th but around New Years it’s even more packed than Xmas

Thanks for the video! I am still debating with myself if I should go at the beginning of October or weekend of the 26th November to enjoy the Christmas markets and decorations. Will end of November be better to avoid tourists crowds?
Try to avoid weekends, that’s when all of Czech Republic travels to Prague to shop Xmas presents and while at it, to visit Christmas Markets as well. Early December is still not so crowded. Anywhere between 6th of December till about 20th of December is usually ok, as along as it’s not weekend.
When they open Christmas markets there is usually a celebration connected to it where they light the Christmas tree up and a lot of people come to see that as well.

I've looked online....and there a many restaurants offering Christmas dinners both on the 24th & 25th, so I'm not sure why you're saying all restaurants will be closed and tourists will go hungry on these 2 days?
Many restaurants will be closed and those that will be opened you usually need to make reservation for. This was exaggeration. I think we say it in the video that you can find a place to eat but need a reservation. Most of our videos have a bit of sarcasm to them so don’t take everything we say literally please :)

Bullshit, I am in Prague now. On 25th of December we found bars, cafés and restaurants open, no reservation needed!
You are in Prague during pandemic (and a state of emergency). Prague is empty right now 😉 compared to what it was in 2019. Try to travel here again when tourism is at it's full strength and go to a restaurant on 24th evening without a reservation...
