    there is one exception to the "you dont have to buy tickets in advance" rule and that are tickets to cultural events like theatre, opera, concert etc. quite often all the good seats (and often even a bad seats) are gone long in advance

    We were in Prague in April 2022 and loved it!! It was nice that being old had a benefit in that I could ride public transportation for free. :) One day around noon were were walking around old town and saw a large crowd gathered, we walked over and it was the astronomical clock. Loved your video and unique presentation style.

    This channel is amazing! I stumbled upon it when researching for my trip, and was hooked by the presentation - the humour and skits and the genuine personality that shone through. The content on here became more than a source for basic info - i became genuinely curious and checked out stuff that wasn't even related to my trip, like the abandoned cemetery video. And still, you helped me make a varied list which i could use for travel planning. I had a great time in Prague last week, thanks to you. Lots of love from Estonia!!!

I wont give details except it was the best experience I had in Europe. it was 1/4 the price of the cafes on ground level. I am in Prague for Christmas and it is really cold 😢 i bought 3 day tickets for public transportation but i don't regret it. It is impossible for me to walk for 20-30 minustes under heavy rain so i use public transport. It would be really nice to walk in summer... But don't forgot to check weather and plan everything according to it, there is a warning for storm right now. So i am planning a looong brunch in a nice cafe and check the weather in the afternoon if it will allow me to go to the castle. 😂 Thank you very much for your videos, they helped me a lot. ❤

    As a Czech for the tipping - we have obligatory minimal wage that will get you home and food, we have more obligatory income levels above it according to difficulty of the job (waiters are above a minimal wage job). We have laws that all expenses have to be booked on receipt and the business owner is obliged to count all their costs in it and never ask anything above. We have strong enough social security net system, paid leave, paid sick leave, paid maternity leave. Tipping is not necessary in our country.
    I don't give any tips in Czechia until the the service is truly remarkable (happened twice in my life) or run around me for several hours every five minutes with some rew quest. If it's a problem for them and they make me feel unwelcomed because of it, it's unprofesional, their only interest is to get unchecked income and they deserve negative review. Tipping is nonsense in this country and it started to be "obligatory" mostly because tourist from countries with less social security net set it as a norm and they slowly rise the level of acceptable tip as well. Thank you, but no.

    hahaha loved the authentic Czech restaurant one... been living here for 12 years now and this is one of my first shock when arriving thinking that I would get great service... well... you can... try to speak some Czech, a nice thank you helps out a lot but if you go to a local restaurant and keep hammering them in English, well expect not much help... made me want to learn the language more.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin Рік тому +1

      I would say that it very changed in last years with new generation of people working in services, they mostly speak at least some English and they know that beying rude is not ok. But even when you speak English, you have to know that in Czech culture, we greet and say thank you all the time and you can't skip this even when you enter shop or something, many foreigners don't know this and yes, when you don't greet, they can be very rude to you, like you can't even imagine how rude, because to greet and say thank you is considered as basic good manner here, in the past, kids were sometimes even slapped by parents on public for not saying hello, so this is really important. But in some other culture, they don't say hello and thank you at all, which cause a lot of problems. For example a lot of ukrainian refugees have problems because of that and they wrongly think that we are rude to them, but it's because they don't say hello when they enter a shop or something. I noticed the same thing in Latvia, when I was saying hello and thank you all the time, they were staring at me like if I was an idiot.
      Also another similar cultural conflicts - when you accidentaly touch someone in public transportation or you accidentaly hit someone in a line in shop, you have to always say sorry, like ALWAYS, when you don't do that, it's gonna be really bad for you.
      It's not that complicated to follow few basic rules, but ofcourse, most of tourists don't know about these rules like to let people leave tram first and then you can enter and then they say we are rude when some pensioner starts yelling to them.

    • @chrisviklund
      @chrisviklund Рік тому +1

      @@Pidalin totally agree with you... I never understood people who "want to get an experience like a local".... no, seriously you don't. People think we live in the instagram world, and then get shocked when us central-eastern europeans just want to down a shot of Becherovka/Pálinka and eat our Guláš/Pörkölt in peace as we stare at the table cloth trying to forget the hard days work :D

    I was doing always a lot of research when I started traveling, I had plan for everything, tickets for everything, I knew exactly where everything is on a map, but after few years of traveling like that, you will get bored by that, so I don't care about research that much now, so it's more punk traveling now and it's even more fun. Like how to get from a train station to your hotel? I don't care, there must be a way. 🙂 But ofcourse it very depends on what country it is, when it's Poland or something close to us, I know there is always a way how to get somewhere by public transportation, you can just ask someone, but in some other countries, you really have to do some research or you will get stucked in middle of nothing. 😀
    And authentic Czech restaurant is totaly the same as authentic Austrian restaurant, when I visited Vienna, I didn't like that too much there, but some things made me happy, like using coasters under beer and counting amount of beers by marks on paper. 😀

    It was unintentional on my part- I saw the tram coming, but I severely misjudged how fast he was driving that tram! He fired an angry blast of bell ringing at me, and I honestly thought he was going to run me over, but I got out of the way as fast as I could and escaped with only a huge amount of embarrassment.

    Furthermore,in brief what they do are things that should not be done,until it's getting deeper and deeper... and that even the simplest thing they had to do (and that they always did wrong),turn into nothing.
    That's cause they invented their selves some patterns.

    Man muss sich auch nicht „alles“ bei einem Besuch ansehen, man darf sicher im Jahr darauf wiederkommen.😊
    Dann hat man viel Zeit, die Stadt zu geniesen

    I will be forever haunted by the memory of me not tipping the waiter that served me and my family when they came for a visit. He was really nice, my parents gave me money and left for a smoke so that I (a person living in the Czech Republic) pay the bill. I don't know what's gotten into me but I didn't tip him and out bill was more than a 1000czk, I felt bad almost immediately after leaving the place but didn't have the guts to go back.. I was stupid and I'm still really sorry about it :(

      Don't worry, I am a local and really we usually do not tip, just round the amount up by CZK10,-
      I know the tip is more common in the tourists areas since the waiters got used to it, well that is not a standard how it works here. You definitely do not have to tip.

      @@bohuslavkanovsky4345 yeah, I don't usually tip either, but yeah it was a tourist area, the bill was quite big and the waiter was nice, I just didn't tip and I still don't know why :(
      I usually tip now when I'm in a good mood and the servers talk to me :D

    Prague is a beautiful city to visit. Even the neighboring towns. It is incredible how much they have to see and experience. Having said that, the notion of not tipping is just plain rude and unacceptable ANYWHERE. Also, going to Prague thinking you are going to see all in1-2 days is simply fool hardy and perhaps should not be travelling at all. Thank you Valery for a great video as usual.🌹🙏👌

      That's not true. Not tipping is absolutely acceptable in many places. What's considered cheap is when you are paying with cash, and instead of at least rounding up, you wait for them to give you back some spar change. That's kinda rude, but not tipping? Nah, this is not the US.

      Yes, waiters should be paid a living wage. It is not expected to tip in my country because they are paid a living wage. It is the greed of the US class system which makes the clients fit the bill and still it is uncertain for the waiters if there is no customers.
      If the service is great, the waiter is working really hard, has a genuine, pleasant feeling to them that has added to my mood, I do tip all the same and also at high end places which require a lot of skills from waiters but it shouldn't be a given that you have to pay every waiter's wage.

    I returned from Prague on Tuesday, however, my trip was over shadowed by the sad death of the young Slovak opera star Patrícia Janečková at the age of 25.

    That AUTHENTIC CZECH RESTAURANT reminds me of..
    Few times nice clean smooth looking people, some even with children, asked for restaurant in german, a language I don't speak and I understand only few words.
    They said something like: "Entschuldige, wo ist GER GER GER beisel GER GER GER? So I knew that first words mean "Excuse me, where is..." and "Pajzl" means realy dirty kind of pub in czech language (yeah, we has some history with Germans). So I've send them to closest of dirty places I know wondering, why they pull even children to place where it smells and people smoke.
    Just later I found that in austrian german 'Beisel' means just 'Restaurant'. So... yeah. Sorry dear Austrian family, I didn't do it on purpose. I just ment that you mean it. I even asked twice: Pajzl?! So I've tried! :D
    - Sorry from Pražan
