      That's a counterproductive reply. It's extraordinarily complicated science, and smugly characterizing the other side as idiots helps nothing. His point is that even if they are right (and he obviously does not think they are), we still need to pursue development of renewable energy sources, because relying on fossil fuels as our primary energy source simply cannot work in the long run. There are idiots on both sides of every serious debate, and characterizing everyone who disagrees with you as an idiot will do nothing but lessen the likelihood that those with the capacty to learn will listen to your (or at least Sharkee's) cogent arguments.

    I find it funny how people in the comments (whether they believe climate change is an actual thing or not) get so upset about climate change, while for the most part not even understanding the basic concepts underlying the concept of climate. People can be so dense sometimes, they hear about something and without further knowledge about it, will defend their belief all the way to the end.

    I feel like the we humans right now need to fall on the face really hard, before we are able to make people to act.
    Phew, i find so sad that people are still as good as ever as just overlooking facts, generelizing and thinking in purely baclk and withe(my group is good, the other group is bad(evil)). And well there will always be internet trolls.

    THIS IS A SCIENCE CHANNEL! How cant this many people still NOT believe in climate change???

    • @f-4ace667
      @f-4ace667 7 років тому +6

      Because he doesn't dictate reality. All he can do is provide an argument for or against it. The fact that he runs a science channel shouldn't give his argument more or less credibility.

    • @BuFFoTheArtClown
      @BuFFoTheArtClown 7 років тому +3

      theFINNISHmonster1 it's not that people don't believe in climate change. It's that people like me understand that climate change isn't a doomsday scenario like the left makes it out to be.
      humans are one of the only animal that survived by adapting the environment while every other animal adapt to the environment or dies.
      if you use an air conditioner or heater in your home or car you are adapting the environment so you can live comfortably.
      if you're wearing clothing you are adapting to the environment to you. You kill an animal or cut down cotton so you can make your environment warmer if you live in a cold climate by wearing clothing.
      the left wants to stop human progress and basically destroy Humanity buy stifling civilization.

    • @f-4ace667
      @f-4ace667 7 років тому +1

      Lets assume for a second that climate change is caused by humans and is as bad as many people are making it out to be. Give us a solution. Give us a solution to climate change that doesn't end up sending us back to the stone age. Rather than an excuse to create overreaching government that promises to solve the problem

    • @Rithmy
      @Rithmy 7 років тому +7

      " The fact that he runs a science channel shouldn't give his argument more or less credibility."
      I think he meant that the fact that this is a science channel would influence the followers of the channel (because they are more likely to put more time into science stuff) . ANd that this would change the opinion of the most of the people.
      @ BuFFoTheArtClown
      " It's that people like me understand that climate change isn't a doomsday scenario like the left makes it out to be."
      Rly? A political argument? Cmon.
      "the left wants to stop human progress and basically destroy Humanity buy stifling civilization."
      cant you see your irony? You critiz the "left" for telling us a doomsday scenario but you yourself think that the "left" wants to initiate such a doomsday scenario. In your logic that would mean that you are the same as the "left". That you mean that you are part of this conspiracy. That makes no sense at all.

    • @f-4ace667
      @f-4ace667 7 років тому

      I said what I said because its obvious he meant to imply that you should believe Sharkee not because he has better arguments than others, but because he's got that science reputation. Either Sharkee is right or he's wrong, the fact hes into science shouldn't make a difference.
      I'm not into making the argument political, but in all fairness, when people like Bill Nye go out there and say that climate change deniers should be locked up, and even waiting for them to die, its hard not to bring that up. There's a disturbing tendency for quite a few of those who believe in man made climate change to use this as an excuse to further expand government, and many get hostile to that idea.
      (Edit) Turns out that FINNISHmonster1 is one of those people, he literally just replied to someone that he hopes they die. This is why people get very hostile to climate change believers

    I think that allot of people have no real use for Gas powered cars. You have your car enthusiasts which I think is a good reason to keep producing Gas engines but for people who don't care about cars, just want something that looks nice on the freeway and are just commuting....There's no reason for them to have Gas over electric and I don' think most people would care either way as long as the car just looks like a normal car(Electric cars mostly have bad aesthetics),. The problem is the cost, They are still too expensive for average joe to buy. Average joe is going to go buy a 3-8k reliable used car and never buy new. If they can produce a good electric car that within the range of 3k-8k ish that college age people can reasonably afford to buy, it would make a transition allot easier, at-least in the US.

      They aren't skeptics, they are literally deniers. They don't sit back and say "the evidence shows this", they say "It's not happening", or "it's fake news", or they think it is a conspiracy. Skeptics are not usually skeptical on things that have already been decided on in the scientific community at large, as there is no need to be. Aside from that, climate change is not debatable, it is happening. The reasons may be debatable, but the change isn't.

    I disagree... The choice here is NOT very clear... Why? Because there is not a clear knowledge about how many years could last the availability of Fossil Fuels PLUS new technologies could be invented to use as much as possible of them (fracking technologies for oil) PLUS the potential innovations to make much more efficient the systems that use fossil fuels, ALL This could lead to decades or even a century WITHOUT a need to general deploy of green technologies, meaning that for politicians or even us, will tend to prefer a "short time" scenario that a long/very long time scenario... and I don't think it is a matter of selfishness because even our great great children could live without that need of new energy technology..
    Well I think this is true.. unless someone has calculated the exact remaining time we have until the last oil drop has been used... ;-)

  • @tmoney780

    If we are speaking about climate shouldn't we bring up other ways to become more sustainable such as animal agriculture. Etc? We should change as a collective group to reduce overall CO2 emissions, and that's very hopeful thinking. Lol.

  • @RDMracer

    The problem is that most investors are too small to look at the bigger picture. Even if everyone would agree with your facts, (the fact that some people don't is already a depressing sign.), most investors prefer quick money and therefor support a collapse of the energy economy. Just like our last collapse in 2008...

    Why not nuclear fission as a delaying tactic? Switching our grids to be mostly fission based would drop greenhouse gas emissions dramatically while buying time for technological progress. Sure nuclear waste is a problem but it's a localized problem, not global, and much easier to solve than greenhouse effects.

    in geological terms, Earth's climate keeps changing, it has changed many times before the Human Era & it will keep on changing after we either go extinct or go elsewhere in the Universe. the problem is how will we keep on surviving with a cheap energy source that doesn't kill us in the mean time.

      JG R climate fluctuations are a part of earth's history, and are usually a direct result of changes in solar activity.
      However, it is worth noting that average temperature has been going UP while solar activity is decreasing. There is an increased amount of solar dark spots on the sun's surface, signifying a solar cooldown phase

    Almost nobody actually looks at drivers of Climate other than greenhouse gasses. Changes in solar activity, cosmic rays and volcanic activity and do their own, in fact the 1st and 3rd factor had the heaviest impact on climate in pre-industrial times. I have not found any single study on how the combination of current or higher Co2 levels and a Grand Solar Minimum. And it's because of that, because the status quo wants to shame us for out carbon footprint fails to see the "new kid in town" will leave us very susceptible to chaos even worse than from fossil fuels. The last Solar Grand Min triggered mass famine all by itself! Throw in Co2 and we could be looking at the end of the world as we know it.

  • @bernkbestgirl
    @bernkbestgirl 7 років тому +3

    The best way to curve carbon emissions is to cut foreign aid and not feed population explosions in third world countries, but I'm sure Sharkee would never talk about that.

    • @TactileCoder
      @TactileCoder 7 років тому +9

      PiggiesGoMoo, you are incorrect. US and China are the number 1 and 2 producers of pollution. This contradicts your claim that third world countries are to blame.

    • @bernkbestgirl
      @bernkbestgirl 7 років тому +1

      +TactileCoder
      Third world population growth massively increases the number of refugees, which leads to populations flooding into first world countries. Thus you get more industrialized people. Thus there is no contradiction, and your point fails.

    • @MrGk2010
      @MrGk2010 7 років тому +1

      Cutting emissions would come in down the list somewhere while letting people starve and die out a bit tops the list? hmmm. We are at the point that developing countries are able to skip over the coal industry step and go straight to renewables. Investment is needed though. There wouldnt be so many refugees if their home land provided clean water, food, medicine, and shelter. Help make it better so they stay there, i spose. Maybe take a tiny bit of that military spending and slightly increase foreign aid. That would potentially help stop increases in greenhouse gas emissions. Developing countries dont have to follow the same polluting route the western world took.

    Changing climate is the part earth's journey, leaks in methane deposits of Siberia in ancient times once caused global warming hence mass extinction of life, right now we're coming out of an Ice age, so perhaps we should come up with something that help us survive as a species and also for the other species that share the planet with us, If you rule out all the Green Energy Resources then consider building a Dyson Sphere.

  • @bernkbestgirl

    Here's the problem, Sharkee: even if you taxed carbon emissions by 200% in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia, we would still have global warming. And not only that, but the left wing parties that support carbon taxes also support open borders for refugees, which will massively increase carbon emissions due to population growth. You should probably stick to science and not get into politics.
