The 64mm Mizen OM burrs are, according to Option O, very much of the same flavour profile as the Mizen burrs in the 01. I’ve been using them in my P64 for a while and I have a strong preference for them over the SSP MPs, finding that my brews became a lot more juicy, sweet, consistent and just flat-out delicious when I made the switch. I’d love to see you and/or other coffee creators highlighting this burr set because I think they would improve the experience of many using 64mm grinders. Thanks for the review of the 01, as easy as it is to lust after the apex grinder in the range, I think most of the benefits here are for applications where there’s a high throughput, i.e. it’s more for cafes and cupping rooms than home baristas
I have the P64 with Omni burrs, and since last week also the 01 with Mizen burrs. The way the flavours are presented in espresso are wildly different, the 01 mizen are a very diffferent experience. In my opinion a big step up from 64mm!

@@alanroderick7153 of course, and I think the P64 will make you just as happy in the long run, also considering you have a wide range of burrs for it. I can’t help but look at 64mm grinders as the best option because of their built-in variety.
@@Sprometheus Valid point... but... the 102 burrs are really exceptional, forgiving and versatile if you want to use 1 set for most of your brews and espresso. I've heard you can get the 98mm burr carrier for 200 bucks if you want to play later. I'd probably just rather get a 2nd grinder maybe conical and call it good.
I had a P64 that ultimately had several issues that required an exchange. I worked it out with Option O to upgrade me to the L-01, as the issues I experienced between moving between espresso and pour over grinds left me questioning whether the P-64 was going to work for me. Today, I have the L-01 dialed in and I’m now very accustomed to it, so I’m not about to change anything. I’m very happy with espresso and pour over results. But I find myself agreeing with you completely in this review. I love my L-01, but feel like it’s “too much”.

Thank you as always for your excellent videos. Really appreciate your thoughtful reviews. I've had the O1 with the blind burrs since March as well and love it. I also love Option-O's customer service. Top notch and very caring. I didn't season my burrs but I did find that my espresso was a little smoother using a blind shaker. Did you season your burrs?
From what I've read though; there are a plethora of 98MM burrs out there. I know you mainly do espresso; but for filter, I wonder if the 98MM brew burrs may be a noticeable step up from either the 98MM mizens or the 64MM MP burrs. I haven't tried the 98MM brew burrs, but it seems that they seem to offer a degree of clarity that no other burr offers, although, it may not be universally appealing. There definitely are people who do chase after the last 5-10%, assuming they are buying good beans and have their technique and water down, it seems reasonable that if they have the $$ they should maximize everything they have.
My Lagom 01 with 102 mm blind burrs have stalling issues with light roasted beans if I use RPM 3 and grind setting about 1.5. Option O told me that they are working on this issue. There many users of this grinder at Home-barista forum who have stalling mostly with 102 mm burrs. I like Option-O, but this situation is disappointing for me because Lagom 01 is not cheap and is so called “end game”
@@demonid1 I didn’t run into that issue personally, but it is a little surprisingly considering the wattage of the motor. I’d think they would really fortify that early torque to avoid it.

@@stevesancarlos thanks. I’m waiting now the new burrs from Option-O. As I understand they slightly changed the geometry to solve the problem with stalling.
Great review! And my thoughts are with Sisi and you. I hope you cherish all the memories you made with your beloved friend. I wanted what is your particle distribution device you use? Interested in trying it out if it’s reasonable.
For home use. The advantage of high grinding spend is insignificant. My peak is 4 to 5 shots in 30 minutes. Only in occasional situation I need 10 to 15 in an hour. So, I’d choose P64 over 01 In commercial setting, I prefer a hopper grinder as a regular grinder. For single dosing, I would choose something more recognizable (ek43, eg-1… etc), because they serve more than grinding, but as a showcase.
Thanks a lot for rhe video. Very informative as always. However I wanted to ask which grinder you rate higher for medium roast coffee or milk based drinks o1 or p64?
Hi! Thanks for the detailed review of the Lagom 01. I’m currently considering upgrading my grinder and I’m torn between the Lagom 01, Weber EG1, and Zerno. Could you provide some insights on how these three grinders compare in terms of grind quality, usability, and overall value? Your expertise would be really helpful in making my decision. Thanks!
@@ZooThe currently I’m waiting on my Zerno, so it may be a bit before I have much to add on that. But my opinion on Weber grinders is they look beautiful, but if you’re looking for a company that stands by their products look elsewhere. I bought a Key, it had multiple issues, and I was met with just disrespect and insults when I approached them.
In your video, you compared 64SSP/MP against 01 Mizen blind burrs. My impression is that 64SSP/MP should be weighed against 98SSP as opposed to Mizen burrs. Mizen burrs are not clarity focused (as much as SSP or other brew brew burrs) so I'm not surprised that you got better particle distribution with them, I'm very interested to see the result of comparison with 98 SSP or any other clarity focused burr. I'm mainly interested in filter aspect, as opposed to espresso.
Nice video again, very nice technical comparisons also. What are your thoughts on pre brakers/pre braking augers in grinders. Some tests have shown a narrower distribution curve and grind speed did not change the grind distribution(which could also be a downside as it lacks variability). It could give you the same clarity with ssp mp as big burrs. BTW: Maro Model 1 has arrived in my home two weeks ago. Basically a quiet luxury Decent but for the same price.
I have a p100 with 98mm HU burrs, been considering downgrading to the p64 because I mostly pull medium roast blends. I have a fear that I will actually miss the p100 though haha. Have you been able to compare the HU burrs on the p100 and p64?
One thing I would really like to know is the range you use for espresso on the dial. I have found that often times you get a very small range and jumping between filter and espresso becomes annoying because readjustment for espresso is very finicky. This in my opinion is supper annoying and makes these single dosing all purpose grinders simply less enjoyable to use.
I thought they would replace the P100 with this new grinder but you can order it again. Find that confusing. Also, why did they make this 102 mm instead of just 98. I'm thinking that you should just buy the 98 and that gives you the option to use other burrs
So I grind very finely at only 0.15 grams per sec with the SPP Unimodel and speed no. 4 on the P64. I use this speed mainly because of the noise at higher speeds.
They do have Mizen omni burrs in 64mm, which were actually first (as you probably know) but it's a different looking burr design, more like a lab sweet style. I think some burr designs don't translate / scale well, so those 102mm burrs might not work so well scaled down to 64mm I'd think I've seen other larger 98mm+ burrs and they seem to have a similar design but never seen 64mm that look like them. And there's already too many 64mm burr options :D I think you do get more nuance, complexity and smoothness as you go up in burr size generally. But it's a very incremental change, coming from an already good grinder/burr set.
Which one you feel is better between Lagom 01 and monolith max because both have 98 mm burrs also manual rpm speed adjusts and they are high end single dose coffee grinders ?
While I realize this question is a bit goofy, I am curious how the espresso from the Lagom casa compares to the P64 and the 01. I realize that the burr geometry is different, but do the expensive grinders really get you 3-6x better espresso?
Could you speculate on the reason for Option-O putting out 102mm burrs? It seems like novelty for novelty's sake and, unsurprisingly, people are more than willing to throw money at it.
They should put "Too much" as the tagline on the 01 page! This grinder definitely seems great for a high-end bar or a specialty roaster, both of whom can appreciate the faster grind speeds which seem to be the only clear advantage! @@chongli297 yeah it definitely feels like too much for a home bar, and I feel the same about the EK43. But that’s not to say it doesn’t perform well.
