i relate to this story so much i myself had a horrid childhood and because of these i have gone through a few mental breakdowns but i was suffering in silence for so long then i finally went through counseling and therapy and im finally i got diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder because of things i have been through but i finally see light at the end of the tunnel im taking small steps but im training to help victims of Domestic Abuse and its great that people are finally taking Mental Illnesses seriously :)
I won't trivialise what you're - or anyone is - going through, I'm not going to underestimate the effect it has (I've suffered severely myself in the past, been in a dark place). I just get sick of this whole 'mental illness' labelling and so-called epidemics, and I detest the pharmaceutical industry and what doctors are overlooking because it doesn't fit into their narrow view or doesn't profit the big businesses. Definitely embrace mindfulness, explore meditation, transcendental meditation, get in touch with your own spirituality and find yourself. Then you can work through your imbalances and drop the catch-all labels, you can be an individual who overcomes your troubles. I'm speaking generally here, to anyone who suffers from imbalances between the physical and the metaphysical state! Look into alchemy, the individuation process; darkness (depression or anxiety) manifests for a reason, embrace it, practice meditation, create your own belief system, whatever works for you. These are states of mind - anyone can fall into a 'schizophrenic' state or a 'manic' state or whatever it may be - you can get stuck or you can be aware of your predicament and work with yourself to get free. I hope anyone who reads this can appreciate what I'm saying and that in time they may blossom. Don't shy away from what your darkness means to show you. It can be a shamanistic initiation of sorts, a rite of passage, which most people have lost touch with in our current environment. Use it to your advantage, feel around in the dark, express yourself. If you persist and appreciate what's to be gained and what's at stake, you will pull through in due course and it shall be glorious.
Why is Phil pushing digital media as a cause? It has nothing to do with it? A childhood with a parent with Alcoholism is cause for instance, talk about that. Who cares about facebook, it's completely irrelevant to the discussion.
It has something to do with it, for sure. Even the young lady agreed that it can be a problem for her. It's not irrelevant. Social media is dividing us, simple as that. If we're divided, we're going to become unstable, unbalanced, being that we are social animals - or that we're supposed to be!
This really hit home for me ,I fight this every day ever second it's a constant battle
