Oh, Steve, Scott loved you. I remember when we started our channel, Scott was talking you about how he was thinking about starting a channel. You told him “so do it! No time like the present!” Not a direct quote, but close enough. We posted our first video the next day. You were such an inspiration to him. I can’t thank you enough for your kind words. I’m going to post a as video soon, I just haven’t been able to get through the process yet. Thank you.❤
I somehow missed Becky’s post, and I am absolutely heartbroken. I buddy read Frankenstein with Scott in January, and now it feels so somber to know that’s the last book I’ll ever read with him. They were kind enough to send me Christmas cards and always ask how I’m doing. I hope Becky is ok. It was very obvious they were the love of each other’s lives.
My heart is heavy - Scott was a great Booktuber and I liked how he related to Becky. All these Booktube passings are so hard to bear. God be with them and all of us.
It was hard to get through the workday today knowing that Scott had passed, but watching so many tributes to Scott this evening - seeing how Scott had touched the lives of so many - has helped. Thanks for the video Steve. I will miss him.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. I didn’t know Scott but all the tributes to him paint a picture of a wonderful man. My heartfelt condolences to his wife, family and friends
Thinking about his reading plans is really hard. Him and i had several reading plans that we wanted to get to this year. Its painful to think that its all gone... that all the things he wanted to read will never happen. I miss him and i feel absolutely horrible for Becky. They had a wonderful chemistry and he was such a kind, welcoming man.
I am currently reading I CHEERFULLY REFUSE by Leif Enger (author of PEACE LIKE A RIVER). Set in small-town Icebridge, Minnesota after some sort of semi-societal collapse, it depicts a wonderful, genuine relationship between a married couple (Rainy and Lark). It's lovely literary fiction at its finest. I don't know Scott and Becky, but it sounds like they had a very loving partnership. I'm so sorry for her loss--life is so unpredictable. Hearing you talk about them really reminds me of the characters in the Enger book--and the grief also encountered there. It might be a perfect companion book for how you are feeling. Enger clearly writes women well. He has also been married a long time to someone he obviously adores (per interviews with the author). So far (about 100 pages in), I'm enjoying it immensely. Just a suggestion if you need a book to match your mood. And my deepest condolences to all of BookTube who are hurting with this news.
Thank you for your honesty. I'm glad you have a friend visiting this weekend, this is probably good timing for you, personally, to lift your spirit. The rest of us have still got a few videos from your back catalogue to view, we will be fine. See you again soon.
Thank you for sharing the news. I don't know why one person's death hurts so much more than others, but it helps when another person shares their pain.
I’m just heartbroken to hear the news. I joined in on their reading events and voxer groups. It was very clear that Scott was Becky’s soulmate. My heart just goes out to her.
I'm sorry for your loss Steve. I didn't know this channel but you're right in that having a real community makes for real relationships and real feelings.
I only heard yesterday. Scott was such a lively, interesting reader. How sad that he is gone. You are obviously moved by this loss. I was widowed 13 years ago, so know what Becky is going through losing her soul mate. I'm sure you have made the right decision to back off with the videos until bext week.
This appears to be hitting you pretty hard and I'm sorry for you and Becky and everyone else who enjoyed sharing their love of reading Booktube friends are real friends even if you never meet in person and their loss is just as tragic Take care my booktube friend
I am sorry to hear about Scott. I hope Becky is doing as well as possible, and I hope your guest perks you up. It is sad to lose someone in this community.
Terrible news. Hearing this news makes me wish that I knew Scott when he was alive. I had heard of their channel prior to this but hadn't watched it. I may want to go back now and see him for the great person he must have been.
Sorry for the loss of your friend. It’s always sad to lose someone you interacted with. You don’t have to hang out with the person for them to impact your life in some way. It’s never easy when they’re gone. Take whatever time you need. Get back to UA-cam when you’re ready.
I know what you mean. This happened to me with Brian Lee Durfee. I have the first book of his trilogy on my kindle and since he is in the hospital and doesn't know what's gonna happen to him I can't bring myself to read it. It got to me psychologically. I'm afraid if I go into his mind and read how he thinks about death, or friendship, or whatever is gonna tear me emotionally even though I've never met the guy in real life, and never will. It's a strange feeling.
