Ruth is gonna be such an amazing Mrs Coulter. Her and Daphne have so much chemistry that they're definitely going to be able to play all sides of that relationship.

@Zara Hoffman Funny thing, Philip Pullman specifically does not like Narnia that is very well known which is why it was such an odd choice.
Yh Narnia was all “you all died.... plus Aslan is God”, HDM was “ oh hey people will tell you sin is bad....by being a sinner, this whole shit is all lies” I’ve always trusted HDM more, even if you believe in god it was one of the first books I read that didn’t lie to its target audience.

We all hope so, but the BBC is under pressure from the British government, and the British government is under pressure to get a US trade deal after Brexit. The US government needs its Christian fundies so a condition for a trade deal could be to drop the rest of the series.
If you doubt the possibility of this reflect that Philip Pullman had to rewrite Northern Lights for a US readership, and the film Golden Compass had no sequels.

For all that the film adaptation was a big ol' mess one of the few things they got right was the casting for Lee Scorsby (the character than Lin is playing).
It'll be fine for folk who are new to the stories but nothing like the books' depiction.
T Electronix I mean, it seems like Lin had been able to do the character justice, despite being young for the role. Though I’’ve only just started reading the books (the show got me interested) so this is based on hearsay from book fans 😂
I'm sure Dafne Keen will do great as Lyra; she seems like she's into the story and characters, and enjoying the part! I hope they don't pile too much pressure on her in terms of public appearances/interviews etc.
Me too, very well said. She is 14 and Hollywood has the tendency to ruin young actors who get into the spotlight from a younger age, or better yet, such an important age in someones life where they change a lot, puberty. I hope they'll let her be a kid too. I truely hope so!

She seems like a really sweet and intelligent girl; but she is young and it’s a very unnatural amount of attention to deal with at that age. I just hope they do have the aim of shielding her from it, her parents too of course. And hopefully she’s got a good school environment too because I imagine it could be very difficult as a young actor.

@@dreamer2260 yh she saod she goes to a normal state school in spain and she lives an anonymous normal life and barely anyone in her school knows she's an actress😂. Her parents give her a humbling life and she's doing so greta in my opinion!

Surprisingly, he did not. Maybe in deference to young Dafne. Or maybe he's just more comfortable with himself than when in his early years he relied on sexual innuendo to mask his anxiety during talk shows and panel discussions. He is so adorable. He doesn't need any such crutch.

I'm sure they won't change that. It's central to the books. I'd be very surprised if they change her parentage. I do think they're going to explain Asriel and Marissas background a bit, especially given the desire for that if you've read the Secret Commonwealth

Love Dafne and Ruth but James/Asriel and the dude playing Lee Scoresby are not quite right to my mind. I hope in reality they'll prove me wrong. Daniel Craig was great as Asriel, tall and imposing, I just don't get that from James MacAvoy. Lee Scoresby was meant to be wayyyy older in the books, like in his 50s? I always imagined him as old and with a white cowboy style moustache. Lin is too young for Lee Scoresby I think. And I never imagined Lee as very animated, this guy seems a bit too wacky and out there for Lee in my mind, who was always a bit more self contained in the book, except for fighting.
What I'm most looking forward to is hearing the daemons talk. And the Subtle Knife/Will cos he's my favourite.
Daniel Craig was a terrible Asriel. James did it better. Agreed Lin Manuel is terrible as Lee.
They will take the depth out of it, like in the film. They removed all the stuff about religion like Christianity is fucked etc... the deeper layer is why the books work.

Dude, this is based off the books, which are three. The movie was an adaptation of the first and wasn't too bad, but censorship destroyed it by forcing them to change the ending and make it more for kids by cutting off many deeper themes from the story.
