  • Hello everyone and welcome to the channel my name is Brian, and today's video is how to make a larger router base. I do this to every router I have owned, I like the increased foot print and stability it gives the routers.
    Don't forget I now have t-shirt available at joysofthread.com/2475-2/
I also have stickers available, If you are interested contact me on Instagram @theboardwoodworker

The center hole should have been made last after the plats was mounted. Marking the center hole with the actual router arbor insures accuracy.

If you cut the square notch larger than on the original base , you can use the square guide , the hole should have been cut last with a router bit which would have given you a perfect centre, good video overall .

Is that extruded or cast acrylic? Cast acrylic usually has a slight thickness variance just an fyi

I agree the bases these small routers come with make them feel so top heavy and unstable, especially rounding over at the corners

Are you going the cut a recess out to put collets on the base? Great video and can you do a video on the router itself?

Hey, so idk if you touched on this, I might have missed it, but does a larger baseplate technically make the router more stable. For example, would a 8x8 baseplate be more stable than a 6x6? I'm looking to make a new baseplate for my router sled so that's what I'm trying to figure out

Sorry for the delay getting back to you but the short answer is yes I use these bases for things that I am tryyng to hollow out like small bowls or vanity trays ect. Hope this helped. The thicker the plexi the less flex in the base.

1/4 lexan but you can use 3/16 also the base dimensions are what ever your needs are

I love things made out of wood, unfortunately I was born with 10 thumbs. No matter how hard I try it always ends up a crooked mess.

The video would have been better if you just got on with the job without all the extra commentary...silence can be golden
