It's kinda cold here in Norway this time of year as welll, and I drove my Twizy to work one day when it was -21°C/-5.8°F...
A bit nippy, but with a good jacket, some gloves and a hat it was no problem at all...
I only have 7 miles/11 km to work, so range wasn't an issue. Plenty of battery left when I came home from work.
I hear a lot of talk about the 12v lead-acid battery... I haven't had any problems with mine (yet), but I hear that people are changing to a 4Ah(12Ah) lithium-(LiFePO4) battery with good results.
PowerBox is a MUST, for sure...
I don't think Kenneth has made a PowerBox for the latest generation BMS (2018 and onwards), so to make use of one, you need a pre-2018 model Twizy..........but there is a way around this though. You can put a pre-2018 BMS in a new Twizy :-), but i guess that will affect your new-"car"-warranty.
Anyways,
Spring is coming, and hopefully, so is more Twizy-videos....!

I own a Bolt and a Volt ... I don't see the twizzy doing well in Canada. Short wheel base, no quick charging, etc.
@@tomstdenis In the larger cities where space is at a premium I could see these doing well in the warmer months; not sure how the vehicle would stand up during the winter months in harsher climate.
@@Yuricthebold possibly. Though in the inner cities people ought to use public transit.... in the burbs you kinda need a car because of poor city planning...

In Canada winter you would need a normal Webasto or Eberspacher type heater rather than battery powered electric heater like Andy installed

Have you seen the Citroen Ami electric car yet? They think it'll retail for just over £5000 when (well IF) it hits the UK.
I love the concept, though it won't be a cult car like the Twizy :-)
The Ami has a loud heater already installed and I am liking that your passenger sits beside you and not behind. It doesn’t look as sporty as the Twizy though and only about 28mph. I will be getting an Ami when it finally arrives in the uk.
It's all about purpose. The Twizy basically is a quad with the same spartan edges, but good speed and therefore a wider usability, where the Ami is more of a 4 wheeled moped, purely and only for in city commuting.
What is Ami ?

Exposed tyres are ok for MOT? Last time I checked you needed mudguards and there were some rules about coverage...
Love your Twizy mods! You are right we need more small quirky EVs on our roads, some great small EVs on sale in China.
Great to see the Twizy , the problem in the future with charging , is that a lot of the charge points have tethered cables which are not compatible with the Twizy, hopefully it could be modified.

It may not have Lambo performance but it will always bring a smile to people's faces, it's just got that cute factor!

ps the 12v battery is law. It’s so do with emergency lights etc in case the traction battery dies.
What happens when the 12v dies waiting for the flatbed? Its sort of a safety addition, 12v switching to activate the main traction pack that's separate. The real reason though is a hang up from internal combustion vehicles. I don't build with 12v starter pack all my 12v comes from the dc-dc converter.

Just seen one of these in Sainsbury's car park, it's 8pm, and like, minus one outside! Nutter.
(FYI bigger EVs will top up the 12v battery off the traction battery. The one on the BMW i3 is absolutely tiny, barely enough to start a lawnmower I reckon.)
Yep! We use ours year round (need to do the heater mod) and for the 6-8 bags of weekly shopping!

I've got a Twizy, love it! I have the PowerBox too which certainly makes a difference in the acceleration department. Most people say 60MPH is also possible with the PowerBox, but I've never managed to crack 50MPH. Puzzling.
That's weird Ian - I get 60mph guaranteed on the flat everytime and I have the added weight of the doors. It won't get anywhere close without the PowerBox but 60mph is with setting to medium.
@@K22MDL Many thanks for the feedback, it really is odd. My Twizy is awesome and with the PowerBox certainly feels very punchy with acceleration, but it just hits a wall at 50MPH. I'll check my settings again, but I'm sure I have everything maxed out. Thanks again for the reply.

I’m trying to source the exact same wheels as you have. Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 13 x 7 e30 4x 100 pdc 66.6 centre’s in gloss black. I contacted Dave @ wheelbase alloys & he said team dynamics who made them have stopped trading & couldn’t find anything similar in 13” wheels as they had different offset. No one I’ve found has them in 13”. Just 15”s & above. Do you know anyone or could put me in touch with someone who can source them🙏regards peter.

Great presentation once again Andy and like you, but after almost FIVE YEARS (!!!) I still get the biggest grin on my face driving my Twizy - as indeed anyone does that claps eyes on it. It's been reliable as hell bar an original charger packing up, replaced under warranty 2 weeks before it expired. Car is now 9 years old this June. I agree totally on your points about the current crop of boring EV's that are either too big, too fast (for commute) too ugly or just too much money. Twizy can now be bought for £13,300 spec'd up with doors, alloys, roof and a few other trinkets but at least you own the battery outright. But £13.2k ?? Nuts, but still no competition bar the new Isetta look alike and the new SEAT that's meant to be arriving this year. We'll see. Enjoy & nice to know you are back and safe!

Have/can you do a video on making a granny cable please? I know on an earlier video you made one which failed, then used a slightly different component with a switch. They're just so expensive for such a rare need for us, but it would be handy to have one on board.

I use true wireless earpods with awareness mode for in car entertainment on the odd occasion so I'm still aware of noises beyond dampening the oem window rattle

Only thing is I'm doing all my research and coming up short with places to get the adapters from for wheels and also powerbox. I've watched your videos but can't see any link. Any change of a reply??

The Modifications really make a difference, and wheels look nice. Do you have a lease on the battery 🔋 or do you own it outright,

I changed my my lights to LED but people are complaining in road that the light is very bright, do you get such comments? I have no idea which LEDs i can buy for my Twizy without having everyone complain..

Yean in the ice when I had regen turned up too high I came off the throttle and 360'd on a dual carriageway and then carried on going! The car behind must have thought WTF!!

Haha! Yeah it does feel a lot faster than you are going.. the way it should be really.😁 sounds like you'd love it! The best thing with the Arctic is if you sit behind them then you are in their slip stream so you can go miles on the motorway 😀
I would have the new smart brabus electric car if i had the money, loved my old smart and would miss the engine note and dump valve on my modded one i had but the looks and acceleration make up for the lack of sound on the new one.

I don’t think it’s allowed here in the Netherlands, because of safety for other road users like bicyclists

It's cool but too slow I think. You need at least 60mph top speed otherwise how can you go on dual carriageways or in between towns.

How much range do you get during this time of the year? Mine only does 21.5 miles on a full charge.
26-30, charge it on a timer plug before you are going to go out and it will heat the battery up a bit😁

Re. Your comment on boring designs - during this videos I just saw an advert for a new Renault 5. I hated the original version with a passion. Way too boxy and ugly but this new one is mega. Fully electric. Looks like it is going into production too. I feel let down though that we have had many great concept cars but very few gone into production. The Peugeot EX-1, Citroen DS Survolt and Audi e-tron Concept are all cars that deserved to go into production. Would love a Twizy.

It's a quad bike with a lid, so no heating or in car entertainment.
