Remember when all budget and budget+ receivers could drive 4 ohm loads? Basic features and then some in this Technics model. When an in-laws SX-650 died I offered to get him a replacement unit. At a friends audio shop there was an SA-5060 (12wpc) in excellent condition and I purchased it for him at a swell bargain price. He's been using it for over seven years and enjoys it. Quality is where you find it.
in the 80's Pioneer value engineered their entry SX receivers by using Sanyo STK one chip output amplifiers in order to be more competitive. Sadly Technics also followed this trend with the SA 3xx 4xx receivers the 30 to 50 watt range was were the big sales were.. Cabinets went from all metal with genuine wood to press board with vinyl simulated wood.. I have an SX-680 on the bench now that has a blown channel.. I'll post a video when it's repaired..
I would love to know the details of this build. I'm particularly interested in the lighting upgrade and any other upgrades you might recommend. I've got the same model in working condition but the pots are in desperate need of cleaning.
The fuse lights were upgraded with 8V Blue Led fuse lights available on EBay. All the caps were replaced with Nichicon UFG audio grade capacitors. Power supply caps were upgraded and this one all the outputs were blown so they have been replaced by ONsemi MJ series. For the pots I use Deoxit G5 or D5
