  • www.cctvcamerapros.com/UTP-CAT... - In this CCTV Camera Pros demonstrates how to connect the PV5FM CAT-5 video and power balun to a CCTV camera, surveillance DVR, and power source. The Balun-PV5FM is also known as a UTP balun because it does not necessarily have to be used with CAT5 cable, although that is the most popular cable type to use. i need 2 cameras 200m away from the DVR and wanna use only one cable. which would mean using one pair to power each camera. do you have a balun for that task?

    is the quality of the video using the video balun with the RJ-45 cable better or the same compared to the normal coaxial cable?

    How many feet of cable can I run with this setup? I was thinking of using phone wire for the power making the 4 conductors into 2 and just using the cat 5 for the video.

    You can do it that way too. This device just makes it easier with the built in power adapters.

    The internal wires of this and other structured cables are often used as Vc's so they are not used for data transfer but as power lanes.

    I have 8 DVR, 16ch each stack together, is there anyway to have better cable management?. One way is to switch all to NVR and use IT camera but too pricey

      Joe Pow thank you for watching. Please let us know what you mean by "better cable managment". What is the problem with your existing cable management?

      Not all CCTV baluns work with all types of coax security cameras. For example, some analog CCTV camera baluns do not work with 1080p or 4K coax cameras. We have analog CCTV and HD baluns available here. www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Video-Baluns-s/89.htm

    Wow! I was going to buy a KX6 cable (with 12V embedded). Are you sure I can use just a common and cheaper Ethernet cable instead of KX6??? I have a DPRO-AS700, a PRO-690ND CCTV camera, and exactly same baluns both away from 60 feets DVR recorder.

      +Jean-Michel Webbe yes, you can use CAT5-e cable with these CCTV video baluns. It works great. We have been supplying these for many years and have sold thousands of them.

      +CCTV Camera Pros Ok everything is connected but I don't have any camera on iDVR-E4. Is there anything I need to do or to set before ? On iDVR-E4 or camera ?

    • @cctvcamerapros
      @cctvcamerapros  8 років тому

      Jean-Michel Webbe No, you just use the CAT-5 cable with the video baluns instead of using RG59 coax cable. You do not need to do anything on the DVR or camera as far a settings go.

      +CCTV Camera Pros OK I think there is a problem with the IDVR-E, because I have a video signal if I connect directly to my monitor after the final balun (with a BNC to RCA converter). Any idea ? Settings maybe ?

    Devid, This video balun is designed to be used with 12v DC powered CCTV cameras.

  • @cctvcamerapros
    @cctvcamerapros  11 років тому

    That has not been our experience at all. These power and video baluns are specifically designed to use two of the twisted pairs for 12V DC power and one pair for video. This technoglogy is not new and has been proven for in the market for many years. We have customers that have had them in place for years without any service interruption of cable failure. There is also no video degradation using twisted pair cable with baluns instead of coax cable.

    *How to use CAT-5 videos baluns for CCTV cameras*
    Did you know that you can use CAT-5 network cable to run both video and power to CCTV cameras instead of using RG59 Siamese coax cable?
    This is very handy for installation locations were CAT-5 cable is already run. This video shows how one twisted pair from CAT5 is used to run the video and two other pairs are used to run the 12V DC power to a box CCTV camera. The baluns being used in the video are power and video baluns.
    There are also video baluns available that run video only. Installers can use a single twisted pair of wire from a CAT-5 cable to run video from a CCTV camera back to a DVR. In these cases the camera would be powered from a source close to where it is mounted. This is recommended for long cable runs because the 12V DC power will drop after about 150 feet.
    For more information on the different types of video baluns that are available for CCTV camera installations, please visit this page.

    You can run the video up to about 1200 feet. The power will generally drop way before then but depends on a number of factors. We have a voltage drop calculator on our website and also available in the CCTV Camera Pros iPhone and Android apps which are free. You can find both by doing a Google search.

    ... noob question... why switch to cat5?

    • @cctvcamerapros
      @cctvcamerapros  8 років тому

      +raykupal RG59 Siamese is the industry standard for CCTV camera installation, however, some buildings already have CAT5 run so installers want to use it. Also, CAT5 can run CCTV video up to 1200 feet with video baluns. RG59 is limited to 700 feet. However, you can not run 12V DC power 1200 feet so it depends on the circumstance.

    Using Cat5 for power is bad idea. It ruins the cable and causes interference with the video.
