This video demonstrates the different options you have when powering your CCTV cameras and how to connect them to your CCTV power supply. Whether you have pre-cut siamese cable or RG59 on a spool leading to a 12v DC security camera power supply or 24v AC CCTV power supply, the fundamental connections remain the same as demonstrated in the video.
There are many ways to power your security cameras, but please make sure that you are using the correct voltage. If you wire an AC power supply to a DC camera, that CCTV camera will be overloaded and short-circuit.

thank you for this, I have been trying to figure out how these cameras get their power, this is awesome! one more question, how do I test to see if the power is actually working and sending enough power to the cameras? does each connection have it's own fuse, it appears so in the video, and what size type fuse might I need if they are blown? thanks again!

How can i send power down the same coax cable as the analog camera using a voltage blocker just before the camera. Some cable tv company overhead lines do this

HELLO Apex CCTV, during some trouble shooting with power issue for a camera, i came across a situation when i remover the negative wire from the power supply, the camera keeps working fine, i restarted the power supply with just positive terminal connected, it works just fine, i am confused how is it possible.
out of curiosity, i tried the same with other cctv unit in a diffrent location, THE CAMERA WORKS without negative connected to power. how is it possible. i have so many questions

To provide a 24v camera, is it possible to connect two channels of power box (Intermediated Positive of one channel to Negative of other) and utilize the outer connection of the two channels, +ve to camera's +ve and -ve side of channel 2 in box, to -ve wire of camera, that should increase the voltage but simple addition? Will this work or is not possible?

For anyone looking to try and use a 12vdc psu into a 24v it wouldn't work. Most not all but most CCTV cameras that are 24v that would be AC and not DC so then if your looking to make a 24vdc PSU then you could use a Computer PSU with a Knock out board and use the PSU -12vdc along with the +12v dc to make a +24vdc connection. However most times the - rail is low amps so your not going to be able to power much before failure. The thing is most CCTV PSU or PDU dc units would only give you a 12vdc and ground rails. So only 12v would work unless you were to use some other power supply to make the change. TBH it would be best to just buy the right PSU for your camera and be safe. Also if you have to ask questions about making POWER Supply it might be best to leave it to someone that knows what they are doing....

I’m not getting it, why set my camera then run the cable to this power unit then run it again to the DVR , WHY NOT move my DVR where this power unit would be and run 1 cable to the monitor instead of running 16 BNC cables twice .. I know I’m missing somthing please explain .

I have a question if i have a back up 12v battery installed incase the mains was tampered with but even then the dvr has a power adaptor that needs a 220v mains supply not 12v. My question is how to you wire the dvr to a back up supply?? Thanks

If you have a 220v unit I would guess from on the other side of the Pond, UK or somewhere other then USA. Then you would need to find a UPS backup that offers a 220v output for your country. Then inside the box would be a battery that is on a Charger and when the power goes out. The system runs on the power that comes out of the backup. Depending on the draw and size of UPS this could give you from 10 to days worth of power depending on the size and draw of your system.

Cameras have female power ends...you will need to place a male end onto your power wire coming from the distribution box.
