I spent a lot of my childhood in Lafitte. There’s a spot out there where a camp was located on top of a rusted out barge. I think the camp and barge are gone, but you can damn near use a dip net to catch red fish. I was casting around 4-3ft away from a piling, and pull a red fish up a few seconds later. I went out on a shrimp boat 8 years ago, and found they were still striving.
Just my thoughts bro, stand on an ice chest and make longer distance casts. you were on top the fish for the most part. Still a great video and better then my first sight fishing trip out of lafitte
For sure, I enjoyed Lafitte - it was a really cool area to fish and way different than anywhere else I've gone. I'm definitely going to go back this fall when everything starts moving in! Thank you!
Great footage. I will be visiting next weekend for a week stay in Barataria. Going to fish The Pen a lot while I am there. Any suggestions on baits to throw? I will be searching for Largemouth and Redfish. Hoping to get a lot of good content for my channel. Looks like The Pen is a pretty shallow pool. Is it safe to run across or just idle? New sub for your channel as well.
Thank you! My favorite lure to throw for both bass and reds is a spinner bait paired with a paddle tail. Can’t go wrong with Sev7n, matrix Shad, or h&h. Most of the time the water is darker on that side so I would throw something fairly dark with a chartreuse tail. I personally haven’t run into any issues running across the pen - can’t say there aren’t any obstructions out there though. I’ve run across it both on the northern end and the southern end. The one thing I would be careful with is around the sides, the marsh has definitely eroded away so you may find a lot shallower water on the edges, particularly on the eastern edge. Good luck!

@@marshesandhills Thanks a ton! Tight Lines!
I caught a 40 pound red fish a few months ago and it was about 39 inches ling
That’s awesome, I’ve never caught a red that big. I bet that was a heck of a fight!
It was
Nice video man let's link up and get on some reds. We can do a video together 🤟
Heck yeah man, let’s tear them up
@@marshesandhills hit me up on ig or fb and we set it up
Dude U sure worked for those fish. With heat and 5 dollars gas tough day but U gave it a good try.
Ha for sure, luckily I was able to grind a few out. I think I'll have to give Lafitte another try in the future for sure to figure it out!
We’re you fishin the pen?
No I almost went that direction but I was fishing around Three Bayou Bay and Bay Dos Gris for a good bit of the day.
@@marshesandhills I fish the Pen area when I fish Laffite. I watch the video when you got stuck I couldn’t hear where you launch out of. Thx
