Features the Late Late Show ending, a SADD PSA, a commercial for the Latter Day Saints/Mormons, Live Oak's promo, Jeopardy promo, and then segues into the 1975 signoff with Mickey Newbury's American Trilogy (Dixie and Battle Hymn of the Republic and All My Trials).

I grew up in Texarkana back in the 80s. I remember this sign off well. I'd sneak up in the middle of the night and turn the TV on with no sound so I didn't wake up my parents. Signs of a simpler better time of life. Thank you for sharing this. Just a little remembering of my childhood. :)

This KTBS-TV Channel 3 sign-off for the ABC Shreveport, Louisiana affiliate from 1975 and aired in August 1986, used the 1965-1979 National Association of Broadcasters Television Code "Seal of Good Practice" logo as a symbol of better television for the Ark-La-Tex. This NAB TV Code SOGP was phased out in 1990, when this KTBS-TV Channel 3 sign-off was revised. And "An American Trilogy" by Mickey Newbury, comes from the 1971 Elektra Records Release "Frisco Mabel Joy" and continued with this KTBS-TV Channel 3 sign-off until 1995, when a brand new KTBS-TV Channel 3 sign-off for the ABC Shreveport, Louisiana affiliate was replaced with brand new elements.

This song taught me to be a Patriot in honest. My dad is US army retired. He was always gone. I am 55. And all of this means something. Trump 2024. God bless Senator Kennedy. He is common sense!!! Stop the nonsense!!! The world has gone to hell. We need old fashioned common sense to return. Pray for the nation.

Such a moving song. The video to go along with it goes very well with it too. The sign off announcer's voice is calm and comforting. This might be the best sign off ever, even including any that have the Star Spangled Banner

After some research, I can confirm that this sequence aired in the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 10, 1986. The late-late movie shown by KTBS that night was "Curse of the Fly" (1965), which aired started around 1:15 AM following the "ABC News Weekend Report".

Then this must've aired very late/early, like 4 AM. They might've been off the air that night for 2 hours or so, maybe 3 because of it being Sunday morning.

Shades of WPVI in Philly. By 1986 the TV Code was done away with. And even in the 1980's KTBS used that sign-off. I guess it's somewhat an area icon.

I legit was not expecting that Second PSA to be from the Mormons. I was on the floor. It's a good message tho, although in my household, it should be "Don't throw books at your kids...." I'm only 20 but I'm gonna move outta here in 13 months, topps!
1:50, also reminds me of my old doctor, turned 90 years old and just retired this month. He was a doctor in Korea during the war, so I had 6 degrees of Separation with M*A*S*H which is pretty cool. He also met Gorbachev, and Peyton Manning (when Peyton was a Vol. Guess where I'm from.) And was one of the board members of his local county's school board, helping more kids become doctors. He is a Family friend and a great person at heart, and we gave him a bottle of wine and a gift card to Cracker Barrel for his retirement presents.

are you sure about Aim High? I ask because KMSS was using it in the early 90s, as well. I don't know how common it is for two rival stations to use the same sign off video.

jacky9br it's rare but it happens. For example, in Norfolk, VA in the late 80s abd early 90s, area stations WAVY and WTKR both used "Aim High America." If you could get signals from Richmond in the Norfolk area, WXEX/WRIC also used it.

@@jacky9br I'm from the Shreveport area as well. I remember three stations in the late 80s--KTAL, KSLA, and KMSS using the Star-Spangled/Aim High as part of their sign-off montages. KSLA began using an abridged of "What a Wonderful World" as part of its sign-off montage in early 90s. KMSS was the first local station in my area to go 24/7 in around 1994.

End of 1983, first few months of 1984; KTBS hadn't yet changed their sign-off to reflect that the TV Code was no longer around. Some people would like to see the National Association of Broadcasters bring back the Code, though I don't know of any programs on TV today that would adhere to the TV Code's standards.

Most likely those bastards at the parents television council who would I’ll imagine FAIL on their mission of trying to get the TV code back just because “children are in the audience” (their retarded claim as usual) for some shows that are not intended for their age range. That’s why there’s the tv ratings system!

Dixieland existed lomng before the war between the states it has NOTHING to do with what uneducated people say about it some think its racist but no its not. DIXIE t got its name from $10 by the Citizens’ Bank of New Orleans and used largely by the french speaking people and were imprinted with dix one other side and they started calling Louisiana dixie land then started calling the whole south dixieland.@@gidzmobug2323
