That Ted Cohen Economy Office Furniture ad makes me want to visit his fine establishment. And no wonder, with all the great merchandise he has on sale.
This was likely from Tuesday, March 27, 1979, since they gave a promo for the first airing of _The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe_ which was for Sunday, a promo for _M•A•S•H, WKRP in Cincinnati, and Lou Grant_ on Monday, and the promo for the series premiere of _Dear Detective_ on Wednesday (which was actually the same day the Three Mile Island accident occured), but skipped Tuesday.
Maybe they should do this to all internet and WI-Fi devices every night at 12 midnight so we can all get a good night sleep like back in the 60 and 70’s lol !
Just guessing here, but they probably preempted the movie to broadcast a Rochester Americans AHL hockey game...I seem to remember WHEC showing some of their games on Saturday nights during the '80s when I lived in Eastern Ontario..
I can finally say I have the mystery solved. WHEC ran the CBS Saturday Movie on a delay (they ran it at 11:30 pm on April 1, 1979). What they ran at 9 pm the night before (on March 31, 1979) was a different movie - "The Liquidator" (1968). @geekgirltv2011 I think it was quite common to see the identical national anthem films (which were frequently produced elsewhere and acquired for use by the stations) on different television stations and networks
@@christinalavancher2707 Yes, and often they were showing the same movies that had already run Saturday afternoons on the Channel 10 "Monster Movie." Stuff like "The Creature From The Black Lagoon," "Not Of This Earth," "Attack Of The Crab Monsters", "13 Ghosts" and "House On Haunted Hill." Saw them all for the first time on Channel 10.
@@Sammy4549 I think if you adjust it for inflation then it seems more believable, you could buy a nice sport car or a 300-400 horsepower high end trim level muscle car around 1968-1972 or so (Dodge Charger/Dodge Challenger 426 hemi) for about $2000, but compared to $300 that’s pretty big)
Very nice! Plus, for the courtesy of you and others who view this, the words of our national anthem were written by Francis Scott Key in the aftermath of the British attack on Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 upon seeing the American flag still waving over the fort that morning and below are Mr. Key's words if you want to read them while listening or sing along as you stand with your hand over your heart. The anthem begins at the 3:31 mark. O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, o'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Well, we used to hear a lot of these sign-offs with the national anthem or "America the beautiful" being played (especially with the bands or choirs of our armed forces) then they went 24-hr mode, I mean the sign-offs themselves are less annoying. [what happened?]
@kstarpictures Definitely. I too have noticed it has a style quite ahead of its time. Oddly enough, I remember watching that ad during the early 90s, and it didn't look "dated" at that time...so there you go.

Wenbao Sun Tegna didn’t come into place until Gannett spun off the broadcast division from the newspaper print division in 2015. The broadcast division was renamed Tegna(Gannett spelled backwards). Tegna has been operating my CBS and my My Network TV affiliates (WWL-TV, CBS since 1957 sign on) and WUPL-TV(licensed to Slidell, Louisiana but also serves New Orleans) and Satellite station WBXN-CD 18 (Licensed to New Orleans as a satellite station of Ch.54, My Network TV/alternate CBS affiliate since Belo’s 2007 purchase) and 50% owner of News Watch 15 since Gannett/Tegna’s 2013 purchase of Belo. The latter is 50% owned by Cox Cable of New Orleans. Tegna just recently purchased KTBU of Houston from the Spanish Broadcasting System just two months ago on March 24th of 2020 for $15 million dollars. Making it a sister to KHOU and flipping from Spanish to English language programming three days later on March 27th with programming from the Quest Network (making it a quest O&O) while changing the legal license name to KHOU’s license name KHOU-TV, inc. and moving operations to KHOU’S facilities giving Tegna a more big presence in Texas after the 2019 KWES-TV purchase.
Wow, what an idiotic thing to say 1518karen. Only a head-up-their-ass Conservative would make a TV sign-off video into a political issue. My Mom didn't stay at home, she worked so we wouldn't end up on the STREET after my father died. Typical Conservative, b&w, only only one right way type of thinking. I'm a "liberal" and I work damn hard every day and support myself, and I believe everyone is equal, but Conservatives don't get that. If you're different, you're "bad" is the Conservative mantra.
Those were the days when mom stayed home with the kids, we all ate dinner together, and TV signed off so folks could get a good night's sleep and GO TO WORK in the morning. Yes, I know, some waa waa liberal with have a comment on this.
That "House Of Guitars" Ad seems like something out of the 90's! That dry sarcastic voice, etc...
No matter how many times he says it, I refuse to believe he's the Easter Bunny. No. Simply no.
That Ted Cohen Economy Office Furniture ad makes me want to visit his fine establishment. And no wonder, with all the great merchandise he has on sale.
"Hustle", with Burt Reynolds and Catherine Deneuve

I'm sure the ISP's are willing to do that. 😕
I take it WHEC-TV aired the CBS Saturday Movie at 11:30 pm that night, (after their 11 pm newscast)being that they signed off after it.

This was about 10 years before the great network swap of 1989. I remember it well because I was annoyed that it happened. :(

My guess is that WHEC showed the Saturday Night Movie on delay because they probably broadcast a Rochester Americans AHL hockey game that night.
I miss the old 10 logo.
John, TV stations signing off at night at least encourages kids to go to bed earlier. Some people work night shifts.

did WHEC TV10 do localized version of CBS campaigns in the mid-1980s?
No. WHEC-TV swapped affiliations in 1989 with WROC-TV. Currently, WHEC-TV is an NBC affiliate for Rochester, meanwhile CBS is on WROC-TV after 1989.

Yes! The 49 star flag was lowered and retired.
Is this the USMC?
May I ask what's wrong with Canada? I'm American.
Nothing. We're slightly jealous over their national health care & gun control laws, that's all. 😅
Well, they've had no Stanley Cup winners in 30 years. 🙂
Which 10 logo? The 10 logo at 2:46 or the 10 logo at 5:07?
The logo at 5:07. Is it from around the mid 1970's?
I wouldn't want Ted Cohen to read my kids any bedtime stories!
