    Love your work. I've been woodworking and turning for 30 yrs and never tinted or painted any of my work. This is inspiring me to do so. So, old dogs can learn new tricks! Thanks! Tim Yoder sent me.

    Hi Gary.... Fantastic hollow form! I have attempted to colour my turnings,but this video has shown me my mistakes. I only sanded to 600 grit,and didn't apply enough sanding sealer so the colour didn't bleed as I wanted. Thanks,and Happy New Year!

    Awesome. I am in the USA. I love colors. Have you tried mixing your own colors with those (Chestnut) stains? I bought some wood dye from a popular fabric and craft stor here called Joanns, the brand is Plaid. I purchest the 3 truest of the primary colors and made my own purple. They did not have white and black. I will have to research if I can purchase the Chestnut brand.

    As much as i tried i failed to get the pattern you have demostrated Quick question. I use the same type application but your pattern seems larger? As mine is smaller and the end result more like disco pattern? Can i assume you use a larger portion of the paper to get this result..? Going to try the bowl pattern next time.. Again love your videos. Thanks Postalbob

    Beautiful piece Gary. You mentioned you applied five coats of sanding sealer prior to colouring. Did you, or would you recommend, sanding lightly between any of those applications? Despite sanding the base wood to 2400 grit would sanding with 2400 # paper or 0000 wire wool after the first one or two coats be helpful? Thank you for your advice.

    very nice :) , do the colours naturally darken when they dry or did you darken them with something? they seemed to be a hella lot lighter before you had your coffee break and taping up the chuck.

    Great work! BTW, if you want some serious color and pattern depths, apply a coat or two of clear in between each layer of color and/or add some clear mica powder into the stain. The results are fabulous!

    Fantastic video! I was wondering, I have a bunch of alcohol based leather dyes, would they be something similar to the spirit based dyes you used on this project? Cheers, Glen

    • @garylowewoodturner1289
      @garylowewoodturner1289  8 років тому +1

      Hi Glen, many thanks for the compliment. As for the leather dyes, I'm sure they would work fine, I would however test them on a scrap piece of the timber first as dyes work on different timbers different ways.

    • @garylowewoodturner1289
      @garylowewoodturner1289  8 років тому

      hi Glen, yes you can do. I would normally give it at least a couple of coats first before you sand. As this is an aerosol application and the coats are very light you can get away without it as well though

    Great experience, thanks. But I can't find the Jo Sonja artists colours iridescent paints. Could you please steer me to a distributer that handles that. Thanks again and great project.

    • @garylowewoodturner1289
      @garylowewoodturner1289  8 років тому

      Many thanks Russ, it all depends where you live. You should be able to find them on the internet. Although there is apparently a world-wide shortage on the iridescent paints just now ( due to my cosmic cloud series, lol) they are now taking about 3-4 weeks for delivery as there is such a backlog.
