- Today the countdown on Lady Gaga's website ran down to zero and we got a teaser trailer for LG7 - officially titled 'MAYHEM'. We also found out the date - we can hear the full album on 7th March. We also got some news about the next single and music video dropping during the Grammys this week! With so much going on, we also needed to take some time to chat through my initial thoughts on the track titles and overall narrative/concept of the album.
this podcast is gonna fuel the hype so much! get ready for mayhem 🖤
I think Mayhem is such a good title as an indicator of the political climate as well. It'd be so cool to get a hope or rebel anthem from Gaga again. I really think we're going to get some metal vocals which is so exciting, and it really is her going back to her artisty origins.
Modern tracks are not short only because of tiktok but also because of radio stations. They mostly play short tracks to make room for commercial stuff. All about money. But yeah, I’m glad Mayhem is not that kind of a project 😁
I love your theory about Shadow of a Man, I hadn't even made the connection with the teaser from the Chromatica Ball film!
I'm really here for the track list!! All the names sound fricking amazing!! Feels like a new chapter in Gaga's journey. I am pretty excited to experience all of this🤩❤🔥
Abracadabra gives ARTPOP vibes
so excited for the next single!!

gurlll your eye makeup *chef kiss*
Loved this! Such interesting theories.
Going along the theme of being split in two…with Abracadabra, what is a famous magician’s trick? Sawing a woman in half.
Garden of Eden, definitely original sin, which could also be a callback to Judas. Also, another theme of being conflicted/split in half, as well as corruption, and temptation (corruption like Disease, perhaps?). The temptation and corruption themes very much fit with The Fame/Fame Monster.
Don’t Call Tonight reminds me of Telephone AND Fun Tonight which are completely opposite in theme and tone. One being about wanting to let loose with your friends or even by yourself and not needing or wanting to answer to a partner, the other being about feeling like you SHOULD be having fun and doing okay but you’re not and the way you can beat yourself up because you can’t feel good and happy for yourself or the people around you. I wonder which way Don’t Call Tonight is going to lean more towards (if it doesn’t go in a completely different direction)?
I wonder if Shadow of a Man is more going to be about the shadow of something a man has done that haunts her but her still having to function (dance…frequently literally) through life, which is basically the theme of the entirety of Chromatica, and, most specifically, Rain On Me. The fact that The Beast follows it makes me wonder if these could also have themes similar to Marry The Night and Swine. Basically talking about her s*xual abuse.
Killer…..”I killed my former and left her in a trunk on Highway 10”….
She could also be referring to someone else who “killed” her innocence, confidence, etc etc…which, if my theory about the previous tracks are correct, this could make sense.
Vanish Into You, to me, actually sounds like she’s getting lost in someone else. Like, she’s losing her true self to fit in with, please, or even “become” someone else, which could be referring to someone outside herself, like a friend or romantic partner or someone within, like Joanne, or even the entire “persona” of Lady Gaga. Maybe it’s about the concept of her finding it easy…sometimes too easy, to disappear into characters and start to lose herself, which she’s had to become a lot more self aware of considering she’s acting now and specifically using a lot of method acting techniques, as well as the consequences in the past of when she’s gone too far into character as a coping mechanism. This theory reminds me of the video for You and I where the guy keeps creating new Gagas to fulfill some perfect fantasy.
Those are my thoughts for now. Thanks for saying what you said at the end. This endless idea that Gaga has to prove herself as if she didn’t do that in the first 5 years of her career (or earlier) is so baffling to me. It’s like..WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM HER?! I think she’s also past the point of caring too much about chart numbers. I mean, she could have been WAY more strategic about when she released Disease but I don’t think she cares that much anymore. Also, I never understood the argument of “sales=talent”. Again, Gaga HAS the sales but many of the most talented artists in the world have never and will never have a single/album reach the top of the charts. So much marketing, PR, press, strategy, etc etc goes into consistently staying at the top of the charts. I like music that moves me, not because it sells/streams well. If it does, great! If not, who cares? I do my best to personally support that artist and I continue enjoying their music. In the case of Lady Gaga, I’m ready for her kind of Mayhem! 😍❤❤❤
Sorry for the rambling and incredibly long comment, it’s late and I’m excited. 😂😅
LOVED reading this
@@bigpinkenergy Thank you for taking the time! I loved watching your video and I’m gonna go watch the others later today. ☺
I’m so happy I found this gaga podcast 😭 ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this and your time ❤! You nailed and covered so much . I’m super excited about this as well!!!! Uh can’t await ! ❤❤❤
In literature and philosophy, a blade of grass often symbolizes humility and resilience. For example, in Hinduism, it represents divine power and unexpected strength. In Buddhism, it signifies that even minimal flaws can be acceptable. In Walt Whitman’s poetry, a blade of grass symbolizes the interconnectedness of all individuals. Given these interpretations, Gaga’s song “Blade of Grass” might explore themes of humility, resilience, or interconnectedness.
this podcast is my new safe space om
Can not wait!!! I’m sad it’s in march and not February but I can wait 7 days past the 28th 😅
I love this podcast ❤
So I’ll just be here screaming until further notice
I think the lyrics she teased in the Elle interview is probably from Vanish Into You. I think it’s probably gonna be the love ballad of the album/ love letter to Michael 👀
MAYHEM!!!🖤🖤🖤
Loved listening to your thoughts 💖
And I guess with the die with a smile being the last track in her thing, in the end
“ die with a smile… as a grim as it sounds it works
Your video popped up as a new suggestion so, cmon! Shoutout from NZ ✨ excited for this album, that’s so cool you seen her in 2010, I seen her for the born this way ball in 2012, front row. So much fun 🥳
Great video! Excited to hear more from you :)
21:33 I kinda miss text in covers, hope we get good hype stickers on the vinyl packaging
I loveeee this podcast can’t wait to see your thoughts on the songs!
17:26 Blade of Grass for me is about the green bad grass and it cutting like a blade, hurting gaga
Sooo blessed you have this podcast ❤
So exciting!
I’m so excited for the album and I agree, the numbers don’t (or shouldn’t) matter. Gaga doesn’t need to prove herself anymore. Plus she’s literally on top of the charts right now, who cares if it’s with somebody else? She’s still staying present in the Zeitgeist.
I will say the cover variants are not clinking with me. Obviously Gaga has never shied away from the grotesque or the ugly, but for me personally it doesn’t always pay off. I like the standard version the most. The blue vinyl cover art is fine too, but not really on theme that much, I think.
About shadow of a man, the thing is, Gaga's anguish so far has been quite the opposite, since it was the men in her life actually who were struggling with living in HER shadow.... but you know what if Beyoncé can release 'Pretty Hurts' Gaga can complain about living in a man's shadow lmao
I think it’s shadow of the man who SA her 😅 or at least that’s my interpretation even though I haven’t heard it yet
Love your podcast. I would love to be a guest just to bond over mother monster 🖤
In a way I have a feeling that this would a tribute to artpop act 2 perhaps. 😮
Imagine chapell being on perfect celebrity
I really hope the bonus track is mustang
Edit- I spoke too soon of course you said it lol
Why did the whole broken glass thing about her returning to pop remind me of “you know gaga trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it’s broken” “ but you cans still see the crack in that motherfuckers reflection”
I understand it’s very specific, but it just made me think of it
Do we think songs'll flow?
I so very much want this album to hit as hard as Born This Way did. That’s my favourite Gaga album.
I listened to Chromatica a lot when it came out but I just don’t really go back to it anymore. The songwriting is great but the music is kind of bland and too safe for me. I suppose that’s why it gest the hate you mentioned.
I wonder if the bonus track is Happy Mistake? It’s unlikely but I’d love to see that song on there. I’m loving this podcast. 💕
We could get a deluxe version later on with new songs, at least I hope we do! Also the power ballad she removed from the album later too!
This album is going to flop
Not really but ur life will
