I was really on the fence about getting a sequencer- It seemed like just a gimmick and I was worried it wouldn’t hold my interest more than a week.
Fast forward to me still learning about the device and realizing it’s a full blown hardware fugue machine that adds a layer of depth to the sound design I already do.
I learned two things; One, I hate piano rolls, 2, sound designing with contextual midi is a game changer.
You can definitely recreate stuff like what I did in the grid, but I find the tactile approach to be much more inviting.
Big ups @oxiinstruments . you made me a fan.
and thanks to @krazywabbit for turning me onto the oxi one

The Oxi One is terrific, the creators stay so engaged with the users and are always adding new features.
They do! Super engaged with suggestions too
3:53 😂That was so random....subscribed
Thanks for the vid but I felt sea sick looking at your oxi upside down.
were you looking at your phone upside down?
I hope you keep having fun. Stay safe.
Nice! I love my Oxi One
Ive gassed on this many times. But cooler heads always prevailed. I was going to use it in a techno live set context. I kinda use gas to motivate me to use what I already have. Super cool looking sequencer. I am glad your enjoying it.
There’s definitely alternatives especially if you’re a bit savvy at building sequencers via grid or DRambo. Definitely enjoy the immediacy and lack of menu diving though
Thanks for the featuring!
Love this thing. ^^
Love Oxi One, always interesting to see how other people use it. Nice work.
I adorrreee the oxi one. So handy for someone like me
Your very creative, I hope we get a follow up video with some more cool ideas.
For windows users it seems you need to install a BLE update to get it to sync to bitwig... I just picked the OXI today and I spent the last hour contemplating taking a hammer to the beautiful device hahaha.... great vids as always my friend...
spoke too soon... seems like blutooth connectivity is finite... Did you ever have any issues with this? Im finding forums in OXI community complaining about this flaw... Otherwise great device for hardware and connected via USB...
I’ve only used bluetooth via phone and tablet and haven’t had any big issues other than small latency, but that’s to be expected since it’s wireless. I always hook mine up
Asked this question elsewhere, but since you are using the OXI with Bitwig, I noticed that OXI has limited internal memory and no SD card. Can you download songs and arrangements into your computer, store them there and load it up for later?
Hi there, you can upload and download oxi projects via the app! I haven’t tried it yet but I will soon
@@Alckemy Thanks. I actually read the manual and I see it. Definitely a selling point!
I’m not gonna lie, I think this is the best piece of hardware/controller whatever I’ve ever purchased.
@@Alckemy Ya! Great demo. I was split between this and Hapax, but I use Bitwig, too, and this is the winner.
@@Alckemyagreed, but it's very hard to find all the settings, it's lacking of an in depth tutorial. Even dummy stuff like : reduce the pattern length or change the midi channel per channel in multritack mode are not so easy to find.
@alckemy, is this still part of your workflow? Did it end up helping your write music?
Yes and yes- just not every song. The oxi one is such a good device I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it unless they make a new one
You should try the HY sequencers, Riffer, Stepic, and Stochas.
I wasn’t a fan of Riffer, I like the random stuff but it doesn’t have offset, nudge, etc. I have a review of it on the channel:)
@@Alckemy Yeah, it is pretty basic but is great for generating random melodic ideas.
I love Stepic. Seems to do the same bur for 30 bucks? But i understand the feel to touch stuff to make music.
I'm using the squarp hapax to control synths in bitwig (and external gear). Pairs up quite nicely. This was really cool, I never knew about rolling sampler but I might have to pick that up, seems very for grabbing bits of sound while experimenting.
That’s really neat! I looked up the square but went with the oxi bc of the portability. Even still, making a sequence and then destroying it with fx can be done in so many ways.
Can’t recommend the rolling sampler enough though. That changed my life
I wanted to watch the whole thing but I can handle that moving camera anymore
One man production team has its own set of challenges
I just ordered one. But I don't think it's going to run me that bath & cook me that dinner that I said i'd want for the price of it. It's a great bit of kit all the same !
If you’ve never messed with it before I think you’re in for a hell of a time. there’s so much you can do with it… just eat ramen and rice for a month xD
@@Alckemy LoL😅. . . .Already watching YT clips in nervous anticipation of the learning curve.
I watched yours for the Bitwig compatibility. . .I'll try that crazy rabbit you mentioned as well
@@jaderington it comes with a really cool video game like manual and their discord is extremely helpful and friendly
@@Alckemy That's good to know.
I'm in no way a geeky nerd unfortunately so I need all the help I can get with stuff like this, until my muscle memory kicks in and I starts to remember the steps to operate it.
Thanks for your help 😊
