This has been covered before and debated among MANY fashion videos and forums - but there can be a very fine line between a Navy Sport Jacket/Blazer and a suit top, take away brass buttons as a divider. and you make it harder to distinguish. While purists will point to a very textured Mock Leno as the ideal Navy Sport Jacket you also have hopsack and some other plain weaves (fresco) mimic what you find in "some" suit jackets. Of course these are not shinny as they are plain weaves. Also many will use the Plain Weave Navy Sport Coat with wool dress trousers as a dressier option AND also use it with dark rinse jeans. This makes having flap pocket a better choice than patch in my view. The other kind of textured or patterned sports jackets you show in the video are easier to classify as suitable for jeans.
Thank you for the detailed explanation about the various fabrics.
I think the navy jacket in the video from Natalino is in Mock Leno, which explains why it works so well.
@@Lukas_Schanderl Yep, I will only have one navy sports jacket and decided against Mock Leno and choose fresco for a slightly more finished (but sill plain) weave. If I had two navy sports jackets I would get a Mock Leno as my second. Its very popular these days.
3:58 A common misconception among many menswear influencers is to narrow sneakers down to classical white sneakers, either with white or gum soles.
However, white is associated with trainers, and their overall sporty outlook makes any outfit slightly less casual.
There are other colours. There are sneakers in black, brown or navy, and with a minimalist design, while using leather or suede materials. These "dress sneakers" work as a more smart version of an otherwise casual shoe, so with other smart and casual pieces, create a still refined but still smart, or even business, casual look.
You reference the outfit of Shuhei. That outfit works because A) the T-shirt, jeans and sneakers are three casual pieces, with only the blazer as smart piece, so the whole remains smart casual; B) the whiteness of the T-shirt and the whiteness of the sneaker match each other, aided by the visual disruption due to the jeans; and C) the taupe of the blazer and the lightwash denim of the jeans are all light colours, so colour-wise it harmonises with the white sneakers.
I would add; a sports jacket with patch pockets. It is less formal.
Consider wearing sneakers, if you decide to wear a t-shirt or a polo shirt under the sports jacket.
Great point with the patch pockets 👌
I'm about to get into buying my first sport coats/blazers for university so this video was really helpful! Where did you get your houndstooth and glencheck sport coats from? They look fantastic!
Thank you, Marius.
That's great to hear :) What's your budget?
Spier & Mackay, Suit Supply, Natalino, Berg & Berg all have great options and except for Suit Supply, they regularly have sales, as well.
Collaro would be a great option too, but a bit more pricey since it's a custom program.
The gun check one I'm wearing is from Proper Cloth, the other one from a local tailor in Bangkok.
@@Lukas_Schanderl I appreciate your answer! I was thinking of somewhere around the 500€ mark. I also tried finding one in 2nd hand stores but I feel like there are only very few classic menswear 2nd Hand stores here in Germany. And in the ones that I've checked, size 48 gets sold really quickly according to the shop owners :(
This needs more views. Great tips. Subscribing.
Thank you 🙏
Great tips Lukas but a thing that I think is super super important is that the jeans have high rise like most of the trousers and that the jeans will be a straight cut and a shirt that I think will be cool is denim shirt. Great video glad your back
Finding high rise trousers is hard. High rise chinos even harder. I imagine high rise jeans are as rare as hen's teeth.

@@roymevo2565definitely true in Australia. I'll check out your recommendations online. Just got my first pair of high rise trousers from Suit Supply and I'm hooked! I'd love to be able to walk into retail stores here and try some on though.
Great video, pls do a video on smart casual and the difference between smart casual and business casual, thanks.
Great idea :) Thank you
I have done the minimal white sneakers with dark indigo jeans and a sports jacket before. I picked a sports jacket with less structure (it was quarter lined), a moderate pattern, plenty of texture and patch jackets so it was a more casual jacket. My shirt was a white Oxford button down to match the shoe colour and the shirt had light brown buttons which helped also make it more casual.
That sounds like a great combination, Alex :) Thanks for sharing.
What coat is that with the checks? It looks great!
Thank you :)
That's one I had made by a tailor in Bangkok (Percept tailor).
I occasionally wear black Brooks trainers with a polo and a tweed sports jacket. I even wear white crew socks.
Once one knows something about the rules one should test them, sometimes.
I agree :) Thanks for your comment.
Royal oxford or royal twill shirts are formal. But go well with jeans and blazer.
I agree :)
My personal preference is high-wasted raw selvedge denim with a straight cut.
That would be the ideal pair of jeans👌
I have dark jeans, blue jeans, cotton ecru trousers, cotton white trousers, cotton navy trousers, flannel dark grey trousers, flannel light grey trousers. I also have linen trousers in white, cream and navy.
I want a sport jacket that matches with these pants, what colour, material and other parts should the jacket have, how should the pochets be?
Questions:
1. Should I buy flannel navy blue trousers? I like texture.
2. What sport jacket for winter and summer should I get?
You've got a great collection, Andy :)
This is just my personal opinion, but I'd go for either a brown or light brown jacket with some kind of pattern, either a check pattern, herringbone or gun check pattern.
This would work with most of your trousers.
Wool-silk-linen for summer would be a great option, and probably with patch pockets.
I always like to use an online configurator to play around a bit.
Collaro has some great options, but the configurator does not automatically adjust the image.
A classic navy blazer would also work very well, maybe in a light wool for summer.
For winter, a dark brown or green with a pattern in tweed can be very nice.
I don't recommend buying from them, but to test different looks, I do like to play with the configurator of studiosuits.
Spier & Mackay also has quite a few interesting options.
Since you already have 2 grey flannel trousers, navy could be a great option, for sure :)
@@Lukas_Schanderl I appreciate your answear Lukas, thanks:)
Your suit are too big on the shoulder,😮
The checked one, right? I also had a feeling that it was a bit large on the shoulder 🙈
Thanks for your feedback.
