    Wonderful safety features, Savannah and Drew! It’s miles from my weak-a$$ shuttle bus headlights.

    I did some quick calcs in the comments of your previous video. I don't think you have anything to worry about with the adhesive holding your solar panels.

      You comment was one of the most helpful on last week's video! We appreciate you taking the time to break down the numbers for us! Put us more at ease to see the actual numbers and equations. Thanks you!

    The sidelights are excellent idea. The only problem that I am on see in the future is that when you’re going down the road that’s lined with trees that the lights might get caught on branches you might think about putting a wire guard around lights to protect them.

    • @OurWayToRoam
      @OurWayToRoam  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes! Will probably need protectors for most external things in the future.

    Wind defectors might be a good idea.

    The other problem is point loading, you are point loading it by gluing along the brackets, you can spread this by fibreglassing over the top of the bracket onto the box, rough up the box with sandpaper first, fibreglass over the brackets then it will spread that point loading!

    Hey guys! Love the videos! Just became a patreon. I am building my Mog out right now too. I don’t claim to be an expert, but just a friend in a similar situation. Just from the quick view of your which mount, you might want to test it out before you actually NEED it. If you are just using it to pull yourself out of sand or to pull someone else, which is most likely, you are probably fine. But if you get into real trouble where the Mog is under suction in mud, and you are forced to multiply the pulling power with snatch blocks, you run the risk of twisting that mounting plate, and if the torsion isn’t evenly distributed between the frame rails, you could damage the chassis. Also, consider getting snatch blocks :) I have gotten a 6,000lbs Jeep stuck in mud to the extent that my fully run out Warn 12k winch wouldn’t budge it. Imagine a 16,000lbs Mog. I also got a dynamic recovery rope rated at 40,000 lbs (ish), but I am reinforcing recovery points to ensure that I distribute all those forces as evenly as possible across the frame rails. Then again… if my Mog is that stuck… maybe driving classes would have been a better investment 😂

      Thanks for becoming a Patreon! We always love to see our community growing with fellow Unimog owners. We'll certainly take a look at the winch plate and give it some good tests. Getting a Unimog bogged down that hard in the mud sounds terrifying in it's own right but then to twist the chassis trying to get ourselves out . . . 😱 No thank you! Making sure those forces are evenly distributed is important. We're working on our recovery kit right now with a snatch block, tow rope, and some soft shackles. Will keep building our kit as we go!

    Amazing light outputs! I can't wait to see the kitchen and living area. You welded better than me! My welding bead looks like a firecracker. I am so curious how you will lay out the kitchen cabinet with your basic needs. Have you heard of the Trelino toilet. It is the best, in my opinion. I bet you will have to go with the diesel heater because of the small space. I love your channel.

      The Trelino toilet is actually what we chose for the bathroom! Lots of fun appliance choices coming up in the future episodes 🥰

      @OurWayToRoam I am thinking about ordering one for camping. I think I will go with the small one which is healthier for the colon. Think about how the people went in the woods in 1600s. 🤣 I can't wait for the kitchen/living area.

    Looks good but can you still tilt the cab with this winch in front? In my experience for driving in the bush, everything what is hanging over the box you will rip off. Your lights hanging to far out.

    There should be a way to switch to bright with a toggle switch instead of a magnet. Can you easily add it when off road? If so you would not need a light bar up top.
    Do you build to sell? Like myself in past years, you seem to enjoy the design and build more than the long time use...

    • @OurWayToRoam
      @OurWayToRoam  5 місяців тому +1

      That would be interesting to have the switch! We’ve built 2 vehicles to sell in past years. It’s possible we could decide to do it again but. Right now we’d like to get back on the road and travel more 🥰

    There is a legal dropoff you are supposed to adjust to. You're supposed to park close to a wall mark your top of light line then move 20ft back and make sure it drops a certain amount or something. I forget the numbers it's been years since I've adjusted headlights but they are required to have x amount od drop per foot so they don't blind oncoming traffic.

    • @Dougie085
      @Dougie085 2 місяці тому

      Looking at your video again that looks like they are throwing way too far, So I'd probably find the legal numbers and check it.

    These are great lights the only problem is they really do blind on coming drivers compared to the old halogen lights. They are being looked into in the uk now as a safety issue.

    After the last video showing the fitting of the solar panels, and now with fitting the light brackets on the aluminium corner brackets, I notice that you are not using primer to ensure a good adhesion between the adhesive and aluminium.

    • @OurWayToRoam
      @OurWayToRoam  5 місяців тому

      This video was shot weeks ago before we realized the bond with our panels could possibly be comprised. Would use the primer in the future! Not worried about these light brackets as the Utility-25s are incredibly light.

    The nice grey/orange connector you showed - that’s a Deutsch connector. Get some of those and please stop using those clip things and wire nuts, they aren’t for automotive wires….. (just UA-cam it or ask an auto sparky)
