Engine covers are removed for pure sound! Listen to that retarder scream!! Volvo D10A engine and Voith 854.3 Transmission New to Cleveland Transit Feburary 1998
Not really, just time consuming! Also I think I’m correct in saying this is the only D10A engined Olympian in the world with a 3.3 ratio rear axle. 70mph on a Voith 3-speed! Although it still had its original diff in this video
If this was fitted with a ZF, it would be dangerous :-o I've never understood why voith only have 3 speed transmissions. Great buses these like most of their generation before the dda confined them to the breakers yard
You can install Voith 4-speed transmissions on Olympians but can only couple with Cummins L10 engine because Volvo and Gardner engines are too large in size. Most operator will choose 5-speed ZF gearbox if they want better fuel consumption.
It was due to Stagecoach having a big contract with Voith at the time and the fact the gearboxes are much more simple than a ZF too. Many non Stagecoach spec ZF Olympians go like shit off a shovel.
NOW, THAT'S A REAL BUS !!. they don't make them like this no more, sounds SOOOO sweet!!. I miss these old beasts so much.
This is one of my favourite sounds a 1997 Volvo olimpian engine making some beautiful beats with his voith automatic gearbox
Driver has a heavy right foot! Awesome 👍🏻👍🏻
That would be me... thanks!
Nice, thanks for keeping her on the roads
Those were the days. The Olympian and the B7TL are probably the best buses Volvo ever made :).
B7TL was a bit soft compared to the Olympian!
And Volvo Super Olympian
Dublin had the best Olympians ever
@Chiltern Transport Productions B10LEs best single decker ever
Brilliant footage! the first half of our RV’s were Voith and sounded just as epic as this!!
That sound!! A proper sound!!
Now preserved. We are currently changing the engine after it overheated and chewed up a piston.
Jatkin hope that’s not an expensive job!

Jatkin hopefully it will be back on the road sooner than later!
@@jatkin3110 It won't accelerate as quick but it will feel fast as a plane on take off at 70mph.
The only thing that killed Volvo Olympians are DDA and chassis rot. They are a bugger for it.
Great sounding bus, and quick too. CB&C has R839 OVN and that is a slow one.
I Collected R833OVN and R839OVN from Stagecoach back in 2015.
839 was awful and quickly disposed of!
@@jatkin3110 It is...gearbox needed a replacement a couple years ago and goes slow as hell
That sounds Awsome ,great Olympian

They still have the same 1:1 ratio in top gear as a ZF 4HP500.
Having driven many examples of both, the Voiths are actually smoother and faster!

E233ful Not entirely true. There are 4-speed Voiths with Gardner engines.

@@jatkin3110 Ive been on a few Metrobuses and Dominators with that layout. They don't do much in 4th gear.
Great video. ☺️
Thanks! 😊
@@jatkin3110 ur welcome. ☺️
Sounds exactly like the Arriva Merseyside B10BLEs that are now gone sadly
Is this preserved? I really want to ride this one day.
Yep. You’ll know when she’s back on the road as more videos will appear here!
@@jatkin3110 Okay, cheers!
Awesome
Cheers. I’ve currently got the engine out of it
@@jatkin3110 oh ok
@@jatkin3110 hopefully it does good and stay safe
Very interesting footage because it was very smooth and stable - no shake at all - how did you manage to do that?
GoPro mounted to to vehicle window with suction cup mount. I've since replaced with hand-pole mounting
@@jatkin3110 Thanks, much appreciated :)
Is that an alison gearbox? Sure sings like one
VOITH 854.3
3-Speed Automatic
I'd ride that bus all day of I could.. its awesome!
Is this still in your possession along with M223SVN?
Who owns this now?
Preserved ;)
