I've discovered through the years that procrastination works well for deep thinking. Basically, when I have a problem I need to work on, I have learned not to rush my response. Sometimes this is so I am not angry while responding, and the additional time allows me to calm down and provide a more rational response. But, it also gives me time to think about the problem overall. So, by procrastinate, I am not necessarily advocating for people to be lazy, but to realize that taking some time to think over a problem is helpful. Then, as my deadline approaches, the deadline then allows me to focus and put my thoughts together, after I have been basically sitting on the issue, rolling the thought over in my mind, for awhile. In my younger days, for some reason, I was always in a hurry to respond or get some work done. As I am getting older, I appreciate a certain amount of laziness as an effective means to get things done.
I totally agree. But in specific cases or life period, prioritizing time to not stress out with multiple approaching deadlines is a better strategy for my overall health (especially mental health). So I think it depends upon cases whether we should procrastinate or not.
I agree. I try to always remind myself that I’m thinking, actually (I’m not joking) because I kind of feel like I‘m procrastinating, but I’m actually processing. And I might as well relax and not feel guilty about it. Usually , I then sit down to write and it’s quite intense and I get through a lot.
Hi Charlote. Thanks for sharing your Valuable tips to be focused. I am a post doctoral researcher. My research area is mathematical and computational epidemiology and ecology.
Thank you for always putting up these videos and sharing your experiences with the subject at hand, I greatly appreciate it. Currently I just enrolled in school again after ten years since my last class in academia. Going for my Bachelor’s. Which is just…crazy on my end. These videos and you, especially, are a huge comfort, like a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate or tea. Thank you again 🥰♥️.
@@rashedulkabir6227 Information Technology, I’m hoping to do something along the lines of the military industry, as they’re almost always hiring when it comes to roles like these. Hopefully someone like Lockheed Martin. Along with this I’m in a coding Bootcamp for Full Stack Development, so my options will be pretty good!
Hi Morgan! This might be a wee bit late but I've recently found your channel and I think your videos are an absolute delight! They have been so helpful to me as of recently and i very much have to give you the credit for that! Keep up the good work!
Every video inspires me and edges me on to apply back into school. I appreciate you Charlotte! I’m going for french-bilingual psychology school for the bachelor of science in neuropsychology stream. Emphasizing coding and mathematics early since the last time I went to university was 3.5 years ago. Hoping to eventually pave my way into computational neuroscience, but first my approval towards this backup plan is set for Winter 2023.
I really love watching your videos 'cause it makes me feel I'm not alone in this PhD journey. By the way, I start to write a new book about ecofriendly print, so if you could share some tips about writing books, I'll appreciate it. Thanks and cheers from Guayaquil :D
I think you may find the work of Daniel Pink a lot congruent with what you just talked about here. I think his work ties into the section you call "Know Thyself". You would like it. I'd look Mason Curry up. I have never heard of her work in the area, although I've encountered the concept of "Flow". Thanks so much.
Thanks Charlote for sharing your experience! I wanted to recommend "Atomic Habits by James Clear" which talks about our patterns and how to form healthy habits. Happy Working!
I've also been helped by Atomic Habits, Shehroze. I had 220 articles to analyse and for the last weeks I'm not allowed to have my morning coffee until I've finished one article. Does loads for motivation :)
Brilliant, I loved the “know thyself” idea. Although that schedule has in a weird way, something really wrong, it sounds like unable to flow unless you are unemployed, I mean where is the 8 hours daily work?
May I ask you a question why do you use a Mac. I am currently stuck and not sure which side to choose whether it be Mac or windows for my research/PhD and I am looking for a unique outside perspective.
I think for programming having a linux based software is the nicest, but I do have to say in the end it doesn't really matter and I also use windows sometimes at uni :)

Love the video! Have read the book deep work myself and wanted to get more insights because it has been a while!

Currently working on my deadline, this is very welcome advice. Thanks, Charlotte!
Thank you for this priceless video. Inspiring and goal-oriented. I wish you luck with your Ph.D. Regards from Malta.
Great video, so clearly laid out, thank you!

This sounds like an amazing plan. Good luck 🌸
Hi, thanks for uploading this video. It is very helpful!
Wow. LOVE this video. It’s straight to the point and efficiently explained.
Very good video! Thanks!
Always something good to learn from you. Somehow we match in thought process without me reading books
Thanks
Thanks for the tips. It would be nice if you gave some tips about how to study computational neuroscience books.

I must say my deep working hours changed with diet and body weight. The less I weight, the longer in the evening/ night I am able to work.
Hi Charlotte thanks for sharing about your knowledge if you want to know you're my study role model. I want to be as great as you in the future!
