"Auction tune up"....not cool! When I worked for Avis back in the mid 80's to 90's, we had some customers who's cars would always break down when they flew in and rented. Because the car "broke down", we would upgrade them from the full size to a premium...Cadillac or so. One boring Saturday, I sat at the computer terminal after one of our favorite customers called in, he was stuck on 95....just north of 114 in Danvers. For fun, I pulled up his Wizard number and his rental history. Seems he was pulling this crap all over the US. Even in the 80's, it's not probable that 50 rentals in a row in different areas of the US would have a breakdown. I left it for my boss and brought the guy his "Cadillac". Not sure what happened to him because I was just a "Shuttler" and occasionally would help out in the Fleet office. Almost always it was a spark plug wire issue. Very cool LTC! I hope you can do an easy fix and don't have to send it back. I would love to own one of those....but no cash for buying and no place to park it as it needs/deserves a garage.
I have a 96 Town Car Signature, it had a cylinder 5 misfire @ 123k miles, spark plug wire was bad plus the plug was bad, replaced all of em no issues since. I also cleaned the MAF sensor. Funny also replaced the window regulator on the driver passenger and the plugs for the driver passenger side. I would love to own this lincoln you got, you always have the best panthers.
Just did my blend door actuator on my 97 Signature blue. Was pretty easy thanks to youtube. I used a strap to lift the steering column and dash together to reinstall it. Love my Towncar
Anthony, years ago I had a 1996 Town Car Diamond Anniversary edition, and I remember when the battery was really low and it had to be jumpstarted, that the brake-shift interlock switch that lets you pull the car out of park would not release until the battery voltage/charge came up after a while. Maybe that was the issue with this car. Hoping it is something simple! Beautiful car by the way, that hopefully just needs a little love.
That's a good idea on my 94 crown victoria I had the little wire strands all pull out on my "boo switch". If there's only a little connection more power could be needed for the connection to work. Surprising they didn't use the trick to move the shifter start it in neutral then put into gear. That's what I did to go get the wire to repair mine.

Hmmm...1996, the first production model year with the infamous plastic intake manifold and yet the penultimate year for plug wires, boots and one coil per engine bank on the venerable 4.6 liter SOHC 2 valve mill. I see a complete tune up along with updated manifold in this car's future. Good show regardless of the issues. Looks like another pip of a TC that'll be getting lots o' love in the hands of Anthony and Papa Bear!
I thought I saw two 4 tower coil packs on this one. My 98 had one of the cop crack after getting the engine cleaned, caused some steam and that was it.
She’ll come back with a tuneup. I remember my dad and I buying a 1990 Signature where they actually pulled an injector connector off. Dealer was in love with our 1989 Signature (it was extremely clean and well serviced triple black car) and took it in trade plus $500. That was a good trade actually, although I wish I had both of them still. We stumbled around that engine bay until we found the unplugged injector and had a great running Town Car just like that.
Can't wait to see the next video on this beautiful time capsule. Now you know the dealer didn't do much to it. Yes complete tune-up and new tires all around. Get that window fix, Loved it.
Nice car! A very odd miss at 25k miles! Something isn't right! Plug wires was the more common culprit, but I would look at the coil packs carefully and see that wires are not crossed. Also the number 5 injector connector. You can replace the blend door actuator by just removing passenger air bag. Good Luck! She's a beauty!
@@gh2687 l replaced the one on my 97 by removing passenger airbag, plastic ducts, removed top cover on actuator so I could reach the rear screws. I did leave one out of four screws out. Never had a problem again!
@@arthuraucar3696 so basically destroyed the car. I did it correctly. 4 hours to disassemble and two hours to put back together. Now I could do the total job in 4. How foolish to destroy your car for a few hours
Ha Ha the antenna in rear glass brought back terrible nightmares of me installing cellphones in the late 80s early 90s. $600 phone bills if you weren't careful when you made call. Ha Ha 90 cents a minute after 7am till 7pm then 30 cents a minute all other times. Incredible how far we've come.
I remember my grandfather was one of the first people around with a car phone. He would only call and talk for 59 seconds because after then they charged him for 2 minutes, etc! I miss the days without constant need for communication… #dangTechnology
Cylinder 5 is the most common one to have issues on the 4.6 with the plastic intake as the thermostat housing leaks into the plug well and you cannot see it.
As much as I love my loaded 2006 Presidential Town Car - the seats in the '95-'97 Town Cars were the most comfortable. If anything were to ever happen to my Town Car I would be happy to find an earlier Cartier. Unless you are buying from a highly rated dealer like Specialty Motor Cars, buying cars online usually comes with disappointments.
Low mileage isn’t always the best. My grandparent no longer use their 46k mile car. It sounds nice, but it’s a condo carport car. Exposed to Florida sun 24-7 (Well really 12-7 since it’s dark at night). So the paint is fading and the inside won’t be as nice. Also had that water leak issue that thankfully Anthony Gozzo’s video helped us fix! Mechanically it’s great, although Now it needs new air ride rear shocks. But this 25k mile car doesn’t seem too bad, must’ve been garaged. However it has the mechanical issues. All trade offs in the business.
Anthony you guys have done it again....I haven't graduated to buying cars without being there in person, but you did rather well....all it needs is a little bit of that Speciality Motor Cars love that you bestow on all your cars before they they become available for sale...that car is a jem in the rough that you are gonna make shine.....a Cocoa Brown carriage top would be the icing on the cake...I want a slice so bad...lol...
My friends father in law bought a Mercedes a few years back the transport company said sorry. They drove through an entire state with the drivers rear window down the whole time and it was raining. No explanation as to why they put the window down in the first place, wasn't down when it left the seller.
The intermittent shift issue could be one or both of the inch long T30 screws in the shifter linkage support just above the steering column are loose. One of mine came out and the other was loose so I couldn't shift it into park or neutral. I replaced and tightened the screws under the dash, and it's good as new. You will have to unscrew the plastic cover under the column, but it's a pretty easy fix.
Amazing car definetly better than just flipping. If I were you i would be giving the SMC treatment and offering it to the world like all the others before it.
Did you pay north of $15k for it? I bet that dealer paid no more than $6k for it. That's pretty damn sad. I like darker colors but I would love to have that. The old body with the 4.6 is an awesome combo.
My last Online Auction purchase: ‘95 Caprice, Long Island Cop car, 1 owner. I bought sight unseen (big mistake) I picked it up and it BARELY drove onto the trailer, spit, sputter and nearly stalling. Anyway I have my mechanic go through it thinking the OptiSpark was bad so while he’s in there mays well do plugs, wires, water pump, thermostat, etc. I mean give it the blank check LT1 tune up! I get it back, still runs like crap, heavy misfire and smell of unburnt fuel. I’m thinking Oxygen Sensors, etc. Nope, turns out “someone” switched 2 plug wires at the Opti. Honest mistake as My mechanic said that he just replaced the wires 1 by 1 as he took them off. So it ran like that either to get a better price or an employee it and out of spite that he wanted it more than me.

This is a tough choice, but you already know that the Cadillac you brought back from Canada is a Gem. A car like that with a rare velour interior is something I would grab for myself. After all, you've had a tough year with your health.
Nooo, they make way more money at an Auction. It’s a Specialty Car (no pun intended). Average guy off the street would pay $3500 tops and the dealer would be on the hook for a 30 day warranty unless they sold it “wholesale.” I bet Anthony is in this for double that amount.
Dealer car: Always suspect. Whoever had it sent it to auction for a reason. It must have been filthy after sitting out a long time. 99% of the time I'll find stuff wrong with dealer used cars, especially collector cars. Modern vehicles are hit or miss. Private seller is always best.
Lots of people inherit nice Lincoln's, Grand Marquis, Buicks, and Cadillacs which they have absolutely zero respect for because they view them as ancient huge cars of no value. They would rather drive a modern-day sh*t box with a computer screen on the dash and autostart that can be easily stolen.
It may have a few issues, but dang that's a totally optioned car. Love those rims. Amazing find.

I had an 04 Mercury Grand Marquis similar to that one sitting in front of the townie. Mine was an LS Ultimate Edition in Gold Ash.

Really? I have over 132,000, and I still have the orgiginals. Maybe if there's a problem with the spark plugs or wires, the coils won't last as long.
