For those who attempt this quick fix- Wherever you put the tape on the top of disc- put another identically sized piece of tape directly opposite the position of the first so the disc is balanced when it is spinning in the drive. If it is still unbalanced & your drive is vibrating badly- there are programs that can tell your disc drive to read at a slower speed. Cdslow is one such program & it is free ware.
I have an old cd that had a sticky note attached to it and i wanted to put the cd in the computer so i peeled off the sticky note and the part of the aluminium came off with the glue! Is it somehow possible to recover this? I'm clueless 😭😭
If the 2 discs were burnt with the exact same data in the same order, then isn't there a way to compare the 2 discs and end up with an image of the disc with the restored data??? I was wondering about this as I often burn 2 identical discs also, and also if you have 2 retail DVDs or CDs and both have damage, couldn't you get an image out of them and then decrypt the data to be able to burn a readable disc? or does this not work on protected discs if you can't decrypt before comparing??? Anyhow, thanks.
Interesting, I have an adhesive layer on top of the CDs I am having problems to read from. Which desktop CD/DVD unit you have? I may have to try like that, not sure which one is a good one in case I have to buy one. Thanks
wondering if its possible to fix a completely normally looking disc that is unreadable in only some devices i have a cdr with a paper sticker label from 2001 with basically no scratches and was confirmed by the original maker of the disc that it is infact NOT disc rot it has only fully read in one of my computers (a 2008 macbook) but the playback of the audio was distorted throughout the whole song (the distortion sound the same throughout, it does not come in and out or fluctuate at all)
Hi I’m a DJ and Someone Sold me samples / Dj drops I download them onto my old lap top & I can’t access the file from the CD to copy the samples on my new computer .computer Says Files have already been copied .Can Anyone help ?
DVD is a much denser media. Makes a difference if its an RW. Sunlight has UV light and that is what damages the plastic. Try buffing compound. NO abrasive. You just need to remove the haze. (similar as on car headlights)
@@Mac1PC Thanks, I might give it a try since I have nothing to lose, but I don’t think it’s going to work since it was the label side (not an actual label, just text printed directly on the disc, not RW or inkjet either) that was exposed to light through a clear cd sleeve. It left dark discoloration where the sunlight hit it. Since the underside of the disc was never exposed I think the data layer itself was damaged.
@@lion8608 if you have an unreadable cd, then you can rip it with the free EAC (exact audio copy) app it fixes the errors, so you are left with perfectly playable files

This channel is like finding Atlantis' long lost treasure. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoy it!
I always wondered why they left the top (label side) of cd's vulnerable to damage and didn't just put the same clear layer over it as the bottom has
They did but it is just lacquer. Should have melted it inside.
I have unreadable dvds with zero damage

Try older computer, several different cd-rom readers. one might work.
Could that be that the adhesive under clear tape shares some physical properties with the coating label on the cd?
Abraham do you know if it’s possible to recover a DVD that’s been rendered unreadable from exposure to direct sunlight?

Can i recover data from a cracked cd and how ?
The CIA can do it. They screenshot the entire disk surface with xrays and then decode it with software.
Is there another way?
