  • I have a stack of lightly scratched PS2 games sitting around. I thought it was about time to try out some of the at home methods for getting them working again.

    A particular cd of mine has been bad. There was nothing I did not do for six years to fix it to no avail. After watching this video, I tried crest toothpaste, applying it lavishly and leaving it for ten minutes before wiping it off with cotton wool (thrice). It worked like a charm to my disbelief.

    I have recently bought a PS2 game with the same Tomb Raider issue. I tried toothpaste and polishing material with no sucess, After I watched the vaseline method (I had alred watched this video some months ago, but now this tip really shoned), I gave it a try and it works! I think this is the best method for those that are having the same problem to repair their PS2 Discs ( I'm not quite sure if it will work with another disc issues on other consoles) . Nice tip, man. God bless!

    Methodology leaves a lot to be desired but given the limited "everything" you did alright
    Tip: Typical buffing/sanding is done orbitally because it travels repeatedly over adjacent areas in forward motion multiplying actual surface coverage and minimalising potential over pressuring
    Mind you, 2k grade wetNdry sandpaper followed by 2.5k will fix all scratches and then light buff with no pastes, 3 minutes max 😎

    • @Economics21st
      @Economics21st Рік тому

      I followed another video which suggested 2K then 2.5K, then some paste. I used a 3K (wet), which actually left it looking pretty scratched. Maybe I did something wrong, but buffing didn't seem to help after that. Some headlight restoration abrasive polish was getting it better, but it was still obviously scratchy. The last thing I tried was neutral shoe polish, which has got the DVD mostly playing, but with the odd glitch. Maybe I'll try the toothpaste and vaseline next.

    toothpaste method saved a couple of my ps4 discs.
    just clean your disc with running water , let it dry for a minute or 2 , now fill the disc with toothpaste and put it in the freezer for 1 or 2 hours(not a joke , this is in fact the most important step).

I rub a glob in circular motions until the whole bottom surface is coated, then I use a Micro Fiber Cloth to remove all the Vaseline. After that I can stick the Audio CD in my Computer and use DB Power Amp to rip the CD at 320kbps with the slowest ripping speed DB Power Amp will allow. Some PS2s have discrete logic chips that brick the console if you insert an invalid disc into the system.

    • @lucymorrison
      @lucymorrison Рік тому

      he could play games after inserting a disc it recognised as invalid. If the console was “bricked” it wouldn’t do anything, except maybe show an error message or a red light. The PlayStation 2 doesn’t brick when you insert a disc it thinks isn’t a game or dvd/cd because of exactly this, Sony would have had to know that the disc reader could pick up scratched discs as an invalid format so of course they wouldn’t lock the entire console over it.

    It would have been nice, at the end of all of the attempted repairs, if you had tried the petroleum jelly on the ones that did not repair with the other methods to see if the petroleum would be successful in ultimately repairing all of the discs. If there were still discs that the petroleum jelly could not repair, then the success or failure of each method was more dependent on the individual condition of the disc, rather than the method being used to repair it. It could be that the toothpaste and the magic eraser method might work on some discs, whereas another method might work better on other discs. Just a thought.

    I like the OJ gloves and using a towel on the surface. I think car wax would be the answer. I usually clean my used discs with warm water and 2 paper towels sections. 1st one for cleaning, 2nd one for polish and dry. It usually works on 95% but there are some that are digitally locked up and you need to 'short out' the block. Sometimes libraries put on anti-theft devices that can become 'charged' so you will need to clean thoroughly. When the static charge pops you can hear it in the speakers.

    Even verified cleaners like Novus can take 2-10 cleanings to work. Some of these will likely work if you do multiple applications. It’s also a disc by disc process. Meaning some of these may work on another. No fix corrects everything

      @@menahanna2292 I just use to put a nice amount on the disk and spread it around until it cover the whole disk. The I would just use running water to take it all off. Once there was not more toothpast it would just air blow it dry to not add anymore smudges. It would pretty for me, probably does nothing if the disk is deeply scratched though. I've since gone all digital so haven't done it in awhile. Good luck!
