    Really truly great series. Appreciate the fact that episodes are focused and linear. A lot of shops will have 5 minutes on rust, 5 minutes on recovering the interior and 5 minutes on something else. This way its easier to focus on the entire process.
    Please show us any unusual fabrication processes you need to encournter-shrinking and stretching a piece to make a curve or bead roller work. I'm trying to assess my tool requirements before I start mine.
    Again-very well done-thanks

    Oh, reminds me of my 1972 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV. I bought it in 1976 and while it was just 4 years old it had severe rust under the door sills, doors and in the back where the bumper were attached. Me and my father spent a summer fixing and welding all the rust, then got it painted and it looked great for a while. 2 years later rust started to return on other places and I decided to sell it. It was a good looking car with an exellent engine but with a fragile body like a digestive bisquit.

    If you only lived about 6000 miles closer, I'd be there with tool bag and camera tripod to help keep this important series moving along. In the old days in the states, we had barn raisings. A DIY solo barn is a near impossible task BUT if the neighbors pitch in the big stuff gets knocked out in a week. I wish cars lent themselves to that as well. FWIW- that is one fine garage you are working in. Envious more than a little bit

    I guess this is how restaurations get bigger and bigger. But you sure you want a solid body underneath the paint job. I am really interested how you get the new panels to fit. Great job!

    • @JethroBronner
      @JethroBronner  6 років тому

      Gerard Scheffer Yeah there would have been no point painting over all that trouble in the sills, it would come out eventually.

    • @geoff3656
      @geoff3656 5 років тому

      Gerard Scheffer
      Hi Gerard, that's a good question... My way to make things fit is to weld the four corners where it touches and gas heat the areas that need persuasion and gently tap them into position. Once it all fits and looks straight remove the four welds and dress the metal with care back to fresh and new appearance to then spray with a weldable zinc spray to prime and seal the two closed sections and plug weld or spot weld them back in. This is important to get a rust proof panel and longevity . Always allow for ventilation holes to dry out the panels from moisture. Remember when a car is driven it exchanges air via these holes and keeps the evaporation levels up to stay dry...

    Admire your attention to detail and stick-to-it-ness. Do you ever find yourself asking the question, "When is good enough, good enough?" That can be a difficult call to make when it comes to repairs that no one else (other than your viewers) will ever see, let alone appreciate.
    Liked it when you said, "Project creep is real." First step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem, and you're there. (Not judging, I walk around all day owning up to my shortcomings but there's no one around anymore to listen.)
    Good luck with the project and its progress.

      Hi Steve ,
      I'm actually going to build one with a Lexus v8 through the original Alfa box and hybrid Dif from Lexus , the Lexus dif will require shortening on one side as the Alfa one is, but it will be a limited slip then...plus the correct ratio for engine. Lexus is a 4 ltr 32 valve engine which I propose to run on a big carb. I'm thinking it won't be under the bonnet height though .. The donor car will also give its suspension front end and rack.. Modified all the way to fit.. Dreaming maybe but it can be done if you watch Binky the mini conversion... Check it out on UA-cam 'Binky Mini'

I was interested to note you welded the sides of the boot floor to the wings (fenders) as I'm pretty sure Alfa didn't, they just sealed the joint. One tip I was given was to always fit the doors before welding on the outer sills as you can never get the profile right the other way around. Looking forward to the next episode as always!

Looking forward to the next session. Say , are you still going to Rat Rod this 105 with just an coat over the bear metal? Seems like a lot of work not to take it to the next level. Hi just joined the channel and love the work and your calm approach, its also refreshing to see you are happy to show the mistakes too! One comment from me is it seems your welding equipment is not working well, there seems to be way too much 'spark' and splutter, not sure if its the settings or the machine but it just does not look right. If you ever decide to invest in a welder with Mig/Tig options then check out Fronius, I'm not a sponsor etc but they are awesome, dial in the metal and thickness and it does the rest, you will be impressed as the difference and the result will also be more accurate and neater with less time to grind and tidy up. Wish my mum had kept her Junior!

    Fantastic project 👍 Can I ask, what product(s) are you using for the rust converting? I currently have my Porsche 993 track car in bar metal and could use something to cover the intricate areas mainly in the front tube area prior to apply epoxy primer/sealer. Thanks 🙂

    • @JethroBronner

    • @futurenewmedia
      @futurenewmedia 6 років тому +2

      Jethro Bronner thanks Jethro, that indeed is very much appreciated 👍 I’ve never used a rust converter before as there tends to be so many differing reviews none of which I find to be conclusive. I did try the vinegar wash method preferred in the US but was not convinced 🤦‍♂️. This has always led me to simply metal finish followed by panel wipe before epoxy normally within a 30 minute time window as to not allow time for surface rust to appear. However since I’m fabricating a weld-in roll cage and various other gussets and strengtheners, it proves impossible to use my normal technique. It gets frustrating 😉

    Okay, you might still have to buy the model specific tinware and there maybe some panel that's bad on both cars but at least that should reduce the number of bits you need to import.
