I used to pass out during blood tests when my parents would take me. Now as an adult I get them done so often I can actually watch them being done. It's just something that one day you're not bothed by. At least that's the way it was for me. Good luck!
You haven’t let us down Elliott. You are doing something about it. You will get through it and triumph! Good for you reducing your sugar and salt! Love and hugs to you, Matt, Rory and Beau!
If your trying to control your calorie intake - try mixing the tuna with 0 fat Greek yoghurt instead of mayo / much better for you and so tasty (even add some fresh sweetcorn too
I'm late watching this video but all I can say is everybody should eat like they're diabetic. If certain ingredients don't bother you now. They will when you get older more than likely. I don't believe in going a 100% carbohydrate free but cut out most of them. Eat more complex carbs, get moving more to lower blood sugar. Drink plenty of water, but NOT overdo it with water. I am not a Doctor but I find these things have helped me.
Your not alone, my father in law was terrified of blood, any time he saw it in reality or even tv he would get vialy sick. As a diabetic i applaud you on your choices. It wont hurt you in the long run abd its great matt is with you on that journey
I used to pass out when I had blood taken, as my fear is of needles. As you get older, you have to deal with it because blood tests is a yearly thing. It sucks but I don't pass out anymore (I just get dizzy afterwords). I used to feel like I was going to die from having blood drawn. There has to be a way that a therapist can help you to overcome the phobia or at least make it less scary. You have to get the test because there are a lot things they cannot treat you for without the test being done first. I HIGHLY recommend buying a blood pressure check and taking your pressure each day. Also, you can check your blood at home with a kit (it's just a pen with a very small needle and you don't lose but a drop of blood. Take your blood every morning before food and 2 hours after one meal each day.
Great video! I have faith that you will conquer your fear, ElIiot. I know when I go in for that “procedure” I don’t look. I find something..anything around the room that catches my eye..the wallpaper, the floor tiles, a flower arrangement or picture on the wall and start blabbing on about it. It totally puts my mind in a different place so I am not thinking about what the nurse is doing. When it’s all over I apologize to the nurse for talking like a crazy woman. They always tell me that they know exactly what I was doing and why. They assure me that however I act is normal and ok. Give yourself some grace. I believe in you!
Everyone has something that causes stress and trauma for them, Elliot. Please don't be too hard on yourself. I hope that your doctor can find a solution for you to have the tests done, when you explain to him/her what is happening to you. Blessings to you, and Matt and your two adorable cats =).
Elliot, I also suffer with a phobia of the dreaded B* test, and I entirely related to your thoughts and feelings surrounding it. In fact, I was almost brought to tears because I feel your pain and disappointment to my core. I’ve been there so many times, the cancellation of appointments, feeling like you’re letting yourself and others down. Phobias are not easy! Many people are lucky enough to not understand, but that does mean getting support is difficult. Counselling may help you. I am yet to try that myself. I have been prescribed Diazepam for a previous B* test which really did help keep me calm. I’ve found it really helps to get yourself into a “zen” frame of mind, noise cancelling headphones with relaxing music etc. Just trying anything to fight those negative thoughts and overwhelming anxiety. Sending hugs! x
Nice dinner - pass me a plate. Perfect for summertime. I haven't tried cauliflower rice. Is it nice? Now that is a proper strawberry pot. It is a beauty. You can, I know you can. Watching your video reminded me that I have to go for a blood test. The form has been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks. I am not afraid of getting the test done, I am afraid of all the germy sick people sitting around me in the waiting room. Who knows how long I will need to wait. So Elliot, we all have our mountains to climb. I am going on Wednesday to get it over with. Let us know when you have climbed that mountain and got the test done. 🙂🙃🙂👋
I can understand a health type of phobia. Congratulations on your working on coming to grips with it. I still deal with mine every time they do monthly blood work (yay for auto immune diseases). I was especially appreciative of Matt's empathy and compassion as you had your 'mini' meltdown. Big Hugs for being an understanding and supportive life partner / fiance (can't wait until I can type 'husband'.).
Hello Elliott and Matt, I’m a new subscriber that found my way over from Matt’s RR channel, and am really enjoying & binge watching your vlog episodes! I was a British Lit major in university, and have always felt so drawn to the UK. I miss gardening, as we sold our home recently, and seeing yours makes me daydream even more about all my favorite plants and flowers in our prior garden...hostas, hydrangeas, magnolias, crepe myrtles, rhododendrons, astilbes...until I have a new garden to plan, I will be happily watching your vlogs. I love the music choices in your videos as well! All the best to you both from Atlanta.🌿🌷🌺🌱🌲☀️
Last comment, I absolutely LOVE your vlogs yesterday (Sunday) afternoon I checked to see if you had posted before I went to bed, I normally get in bed at 6:30 because I wake up at 2AM so I was so happy to see it today I LOVE Matt’s meals I need his recipes 😊, I also appreciate your taking us on your journeys, the United Kingdom country side is absolutely gorgeous and I have to live vicariously through you because unfortunately I don’t believe I will ever make it there, which has always been a dream for me. My father’s family originally is from Scotland my mother’s side is from Poland. I don’t know if I could ever drive there because we drive on the other side 😊 I am absolutely in love with your gorgeous garden it’s absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us I always look forward to your vlogs! Have a fantastic week!!!
Glad to hear that you're going to talk to your doctor about your anxiety regards your 'b' test. My phobia's the dentist. I discussed it with my GP and she gave me a prescription for two sedatives. One to be taken the night before my dental appointment, and the other to be taken in the morning. Your doctor will understand and will definitely help you get through this. Best of luck xx
You shouldn't feel like a failure, I think you've done great in identifying the issue and looking to fix it. I have a friend in the UK who had a phobia of needles so badly that we couldn't even mention them without her passing out; she went to therapy for it and it was extremely helpful, literally, she was the first in line for the vaccine and did outstanding.
Thank you for taking us with you on this lovely trip to Matt's parents. I always enjoy seeing a bit of the countryside. I'm sure that you will manage the red-liquid-running-through-our-veins-issue. You've already started because you want to.
Am so proud of you Elliot. Admitting or acknowledgement of an issue is the 1st step to recovery. You are going to do great and be so proud of yourself. Distraction is a good tactic or a Valium shot to take the edge off. Just a thought. Glad you are doing better otherwise. Been out ofnpocket so catching up on videos!
I feel for you. You are not a failure. You are very brave for talking to both the lab and your doctor about it. I am happy your doctor could give you a place to go to, to have this phobia taken care of. It could have a source but then again it might turn out there is none that can be found. That doesn't mean it can't be worked with. I am sure the therapist or psychologist will find some solutions. There are also alternative medicines like Bach flowers or homeopathy that can help to aid in handling the issue in case school medicine is not allowed for the tests needed. I know if I have trust in the doctor or clinic tech who is doing a procedure that helps a lot. If I feel uncomfortable I will get up and walk out. On other note and happier things, your garden is coming along just fine, it is really looking spify, isn't it a bit early for roses? But your spring starts earlier than ours does in Mid northern US, so that might be why it seems early to me. I am really proud of you and Matt sticking to your "diet" if it is making you feel better, all the better. Not everybody has a fast metabolism, most people dont, so too much salt and refined sugar and sugary products is not good for anyone. Be careful of spring rolls they can have a ton of salt in them, unless they are certified organic. Do make sure to vary the bit of salt you do use, so you get your iodine as well as your natural salt like Sea salt or Himalayan salt for trace minerals. Ask your doctor or a dietician about the best way to go about the iodine issue. Remember to stay hydrated, it is said that coconut water, watermelon and cucumber water all help keep you body regulated. I myself am not fond of cucumber if they are not peeled either. Hugs to Rory and Beau.
poor Eliot. my family member is very afraid of having blood drawn. he faints. his main dr. prescribes ONE pill for his nerves on that day. perhaps, your dr can do prescribe something for the night before, and the morning of. what my family member uses is mild, but WORKS FINE. just a suggestion. I am deathly afraid of heights. my heart races, I hyperventilate. so I know how you felt. YOU ARE NOT WEIRD. if anything ,my phobia of heights is worse now than when I was younger. the garden is looking wonderful, can't wait for the rest of the roses to bloom out!
I get the same way when they draw blood ... especially getting clammy . So i turn my head and dont look. Also it helps if they lay you down when they do it. You're more relaxed. And just turn your head...don't look and go to a haapy thought in your head. That's how i handle it. It is important to have tests done...so don't put it off forever....takecare ❤ I sip some water .. hydration helps your blood flow better....take a mint or candy and as soon as it's over, pop in mouth ... it will help your sugar and with dizzy spell 😊
As usual to late for the live but still watching it’s Monday late afternoon in Houston and our heat index was 100 degree today so I know what you mean when you say it hot out I absolutely love, love the salad!! Now on with the show, and hello to you both ❤
The phobia is real. I don't have quite the same as you but I faint at the site of b.... My mom has even asked me how I function and handle when Aunt Flow visits. But the best I can explain is I know that's natural whereas under other circumstances that fluid should not normally leave one's body. I hate that it keeps me from being able to donate to hospitals and banks but at least I can now get tests done. I've found letting the person know, lying down while it happens, being very well hydrated and keeping engaged in discussion while in the room helps. Bravo for you for taking the steps necessary and for recognizing your limit. ❤
Elliot anxiety and the heart palpitations are horrible. I stay away from Demerara sugar which first started my attacks ( who knew)? I cut that out and they are gone..now I watch my carbs and eat avocados.. foods like this help with anxiety. You are not alone Elliot. I see a doctor and get the white coat syndrome
You didn't let yourself or anyone else down we all have phobias...I get b tests every 3 months for a thyroid issue..my phobia you actually mentioned and a shiver went up my spine. My phobia is rats and mince absolutely terrified of them I can't even handle a empty clean trap. If I am driving and see a rat on middle of road I have to avoid it in case in jumps up and gets into the car..I don't go into sheds. My attic I actually hoover it and clean every corner of it just in case. So don't worry at all we all are the same. Wishing you both well.
You are not letting anyone down and dont feel bad.You are dealing with your phobia and determined to conquer your fears .Your garden looks very well organised and love your Strawberry planter.Have you ever been to the Chelsea flowers show? Could Matt do a cookery demo of his prawn pasta dish please ,it looked and sounded so tasty.Have a great week lads.xx,
I don't think anyone particularly likes blood tests. I make a point of looking away before the needle goes in and not looking back again until the nurse says 'all done' and wants me to press the bit of bandage (or whatever it is) on the wound.
No, you are not a failure. You have found that you have an added problem and you are addressing it. That is a success even though you didn't see it coming.
Awe bless your heart I had to break into watching the video to comment, first you are absolutely NOT a failure, I completely understand where you’re coming from, I absolutely hate having my blood drawn it 100% different than a shot. I have very small veins that roll and it’s absolute torture to get blood, I’ve been hospitalized twice and they couldn’t even put a normal IV in my arm, they had to run a PIC line which is actually can be a dangerous procedure because it’s an IV that sit right above the heart I have needed blood work for a few years now but since everything has changed in our medical system and it’s no longer done in the doctors office I don’t go, it’s a task just scheduling the darn thing and then when my reminder comes I get so worked up with worry that I cancel mine to. I’m interested in what you find out and maybe it will work for me. At least you are doing that because I certainly never thought of it. Lots of love, prayers and good wishes from across the pond ❤ now on with the show 😊
Your garden looks lovely. I planted two rose bushes last year and they did brilliantly, and they never came back after Winter, I was so sad 😞 I don’t know what happened 🤷♀️ Ask for a Valium. They gave me one before a CT scan as I am very claustrophobic. You will be ok, I applaud you for addressing the issue! ❤❤❤❤❤
I love cucumber 🥒 and I love cherry tomatoes to with salt and pepper....and I love watching Elliott and Matt and the furbabys to....on your weekly videos ...we have also been getting alot of rain and storms here in Des Moines Iowa USA 🇺🇸.... .sending prayers in hopes that every thing will be OK....
Awwe you do need to get it done i had a phobia of hair cuts couldnt go the hairdressers but got over it by getting a dry cut now i dont have any try reading a book when you have it done gardening will take your mind off it something you love doing read it while you get it it wont take a minute
Phobia is terrible feeling I got phobia of bees and wasps I can't eat in the park in the summer I'll happily sit in the park in winter in -2c to eat fish and chips
I am sorry you have this phobia. I am proud of you for looking for alternatives to be able to have the test. I understand panic and fear. I am a gardener who is terrified of snakes.
About ten years ago l had to have a blood test, l was nervous. This came down to a nurse in AnE who hurt me taking the blood. Now l have them once a year with no problem, you will get statins everyone does. To raise the vein squeezing a tennis ball helps, sedation will involve a anesthetist and that is a hospital visit. Good luck.
Also Elliot, I find if you drink plenty of water leading up to your blood test, they get a quicker draw on your blood so they don't have to tap you and squeeze you so much to get some blood going..lol
Elliot, have you heard about soaking banana peels in water and using the banana-infused water to spray on and water plants? A gardener I saw swears this makes their plants grow so well. Maybe give it a try?
My phobia is taking pills.. yes I can and do take a pill a day because of hypertension…lol I found I don’t like them drawing my blood. But I can tolerate anyone else’s blood.. I just pass out… to get around it they make me lay down when drawing blood…
One year we had a strawberry planter at our old house. Our front door was about 3 feet from the sidewalk, so my husband made a lovely little patio in the front and we put planters full of flowers on it, as well as a bistro set. I had the strawberry planter on the bistro table and we were getting lots of lovely strawberries from it. One night somebody came down our street and basically helped themselves to my planter, as well as lots of other plants and planters from us and all our neighbors 😢😢
Hello... that "somebody" may have been a squirrel or a rabbit?? Btw I just stumbled on this channel... where is the setting of this video? He said the weather is hot and I would think it's still chilly in UK so I don't think it's there🤔
@@ME-gz8yi No, the thief had a van and two legs. One of our neighbors caught them on camera. Unfortunately the license plate was not visible. An animal would not have taken the whole planter, as well as hanging baskets and other plants and planters. It was like they were shopping for their garden on our street.
@@ME-gz8yi Hello 🙋♀️ It is in the UK - Shropshire. It has been hot here. It can be very changeable. I don't think squirrels would be able to carry off plant pots 😃
@@mimaroo1431 Oh no, I'm so sorry someone heisted your entire garden! I've visited London twice [20 years apart] and loved every second. I'm from southern California and love the grey spring weather. The residents are lovely and I imagine even kinder in the countryside. No doubt that generosity and a green thumb is the perfect environment for garden grifters. Disgusting and so sorry it happened to you.
I had a gastroscopy last week without sedation, my choice. I coped because I focused on my breathing. Any difficult situations, I focus on my breathing. Give it a try. 😊😊
Oh dear…. Talk to your doctor, they can give you a mild sedative to help you through things like that. My eldest son is the same and he has to take a sedative before he goes for blood tests
Oh Elliot I cannot believe you have the exact same phobia as me you have described how I am with blood tests it consumes all my thoughts in the same way when I’m told I need one I am terrified I thought it would get better the older I get but it hasn’t I feel your pain
I hate needles and blood( it actually makes my ears flutter inside),but as I have leukaemia I just have to deal with it as I have to have a minimum of 4 big blood tests a year
I’ve recently had these tests done & everything came back clear, which was the one thing I was dreading, atleast if they found something they could support me moving forward, I’ve got another appointment with my docter but that’s not till the end of July, I’m heartbroken with my results, I don’t know what to do moving forward
Hi Elliott. It's the fear panic of waiting. If you were at the doctors unexpectedly and they took a blood test, you would probably be fine. It's the anxiety symptoms leading up to the event. You haven't let anyone down, but if you can get to the base of the problem, it really helps. I think usually the answer is to repeatedly expose yourself to the problem (so to speak... and a bit difficult with a blood test!), but easier said than done. It's a long time since you had a blood test, so the panic will set in. It's your irrational thoughts that get out of hand, and then your thoughts lead to the feelings, and then the feelings take over the mind, and it all starts off the spiral, that's all. Once you've had the test, it will probably be a piece of cake! xxxxx
I think it will work for you but slowly, first say blood or listen to someone else say it. Then go from there. I understand your terror I’m terrified of spiders, I dread spider season, I’ve started to watch videos of spiders, although it’s just in real life I think I’m going to faint, hot, sweaty and I scream a lot! It doesn’t help my sons catch them and pretend to throw them at me! 😱

We all have something Elliot. A little anti-anxiety medicine like Xanax will help you. Doc Martin has the same phobia!!!!
Try a drop of doTerra lavender essential oil on a linen handkerchief

And just turn your head...don't look and go to a haapy thought in your head. That's how i handle it. It is important to have tests done...so don't put it off forever....takecare ❤ I sip some water .. hydration helps your blood flow better....take a mint or candy and as soon as it's over, pop in mouth ... it will help your sugar and with dizzy spell 😊
As usual to late for the live but still watching it’s Monday late afternoon in Houston and our heat index was 100 degree today so I know what you mean when you say it hot out
I absolutely love, love the salad!!
I have very small veins that roll and it’s absolute torture to get blood, I’ve been hospitalized twice and they couldn’t even put a normal IV in my arm, they had to run a PIC line which is actually can be a dangerous procedure because it’s an IV that sit right above the heart
I have needed blood work for a few years now but since everything has changed in our medical system and it’s no longer done in the doctors office I don’t go, it’s a task just scheduling the darn thing and then when my reminder comes I get so worked up with worry that I cancel mine to. I’m interested in what you find out and maybe it will work for me. At least you are doing that because I certainly never thought of it.
Lots of love, prayers and good wishes from across the pond ❤ now on with the show 😊
You have not let anyone down Elliot and hope you get to have your tests xx
Maureen must be very worried ☹️
Hi Matt is Favor over here to see you I thought I saw them at Birmingham Airport 😊
Hi, no as far as I’m aware she’s in Texas! 😄
Loved this vlog hope you have the test done soon I do understand the phobia .And the Bannana water is great for your plants 😊
Could be low in zinc
This food is doing you good looking very buff 💪
My phobia is taking pills.. yes I can and do take a pill a day because of hypertension…lol I found I don’t like them drawing my blood. But I can tolerate anyone else’s blood.. I just pass out… to get around it they make me lay down when drawing blood…
Have you ever watched Doc Martin? It is a British show he has the fear of the b word
As an nhs nurse, I'm not sure they would agree sedation for a blood test but if you don't ask you won't know. I feel for you.
I notice you eat a lot of spring rolls, which are full of salt in case you didn't know!
You can do love when your ready
Bi totally understand
I should have had a skin biopsy but bottled it. Didn't want to be cut into. Love you.
Oh dear…. Talk to your doctor, they can give you a mild sedative to help you through things like that. My eldest son is the same and he has to take a sedative before he goes for blood tests
Hi Elliot and Matt 😊
Oh Elliot I cannot believe you have the exact same phobia as me you have described how I am with blood tests it consumes all my thoughts in the same way when I’m told I need one I am terrified I thought it would get better the older I get but it hasn’t I feel your pain
Well done for trying to face it Elliot, you should contact The Speakmans on This Morning ❤
I hate needles and blood( it actually makes my ears flutter inside),but as I have leukaemia I just have to deal with it as I have to have a minimum of 4 big blood tests a year
i have a phobia of driving, very different from yours but i understand the terror, feeling for you
Hi guys
I’ve recently had these tests done & everything came back clear, which was the one thing I was dreading, atleast if they found something they could support me moving forward, I’ve got another appointment with my docter but that’s not till the end of July, I’m heartbroken with my results, I don’t know what to do moving forward
You will do it youve stopped the sugar and salt
Hi everyone
What if matt talks to you while you get it done
Its specific to you. I get it.
❤️❤️❤️❤️💜
You can havea finger prick test which will indicate your cholesterol and sugar levels which will avoid going for an actual blood test.
Maybe a daft suggestion could you put something over your eyes while having the test sorry if that’s a silly suggestion
... and request to lie down.
I have a phobia of having an mri I have to have it done every year I’m always tempted to cancel but I never have my health is too important .
❤❤😘😘
I could watch hairdressing vids but not get mine done
Your legs could be sore from all the garden work ... mine get sore when i mow...
Dont feel bad its not you its just the mind it blows it out of all proportion
I hope you get over your phobia enough to take your test. Therapy will help. Maybe you can get a sponsor in better help!
Just started the video..what are white things on your neighbors tree?
Can you tell the doctor about that.
Cant you get blood drawn at home by nurse ...we do that in our country if people unable to get to labs to do tests
Joseph and Today
Could they change the injection site?

Panic attack sufferer...you are no failure.
