God is back
The man, the myth, the legend - Feng Zhu! I love your stuff so much, thank you for doing what you do Feng. Thank you!
Hey Feng, I started my career by watching your videos. Its been 5 years since high school, I am finally made into the industries as a concept artist. I am so grateful that the fact that Design Cinema has been there through out my journey. I sometime come back to the older episode for different reasons, and I always found there is something I can learn about. Thank you Feng!
Your lack of uploads actually motivated me to stop staring at your videos and start taking Initiative towards my goals as an artist. It's paid off really well, i guess that break was well deserved!
Same here... Finally i stopped procrastination
One thing I'd love to see from you is exercises for progression. For example, when you did EP89 "Just Draw", you gave us some really useful stuff to practice and to use to improve (like the rocks > trees > animal skulls > bugs progression). Maybe for this perspective stuff you're doing, you could do something similar?
Kind of like "alright, now that we've talked about [insert topic], now here's how you can practice it by doing X, then moving on to Y, then Z" or something along those lines. Doesn't have to be big. Just a rough guideline of what path to follow like with the "Just Draw" episode. Having that kind of mini curriculum/structure was super helpful! Personally, lack of direction when you're self-teaching is the biggest source of frustration.
same i would like to know!
well do the same exercise from the Just Draw episode but in different focal lenghts😂
Finally I understand perspective. A clear and beautiful explanation. Thanks a lot. You are a great teacher.
finally some technical information on perspective. thanks for covering this, can't wait to hear more. please don't save the perspective lessons for your school! :) the rules of perspective are simple, but the practical side can really be influenced by your insights and experience. go deeper!! thank you and welcome back
Its been a long time Fang! Big thanks to you! I am a traditional artist with classical education, have been in traditional art for 19 years. Now started to work as an art lead in the game industry, and boy you helped me in this! So really big thanks for all of your videos, helped me a lot to understand the industry and working digitally in total. If youll be in Estonia one day, I definitely invite you to the dinner just to pay off!
Whenever a video of you appears out of nowhere it paints a smile on my face. Thank you Feng!
Glad to have DC back! Thanks Feng. Excited for the next episode.
Oh Man! You completed it in under 5 mins... I was so close to joining your school and learning this stuff in person. I even passed the interview and the 2 entrance tests! Youve been my idol since I was a kid... When the rest used to play hide and seek and tag, I used to sit at home and stare at your work in admiration XP So good to have you back Feng!
what happened?
This commentt is actually depressing
@@paatej Well, the student loan that was supposed to allow me to attend the course didnt come through, and they only informed me about this, only a day before I was planning to book my flight tickets :)
Did other types of loans do not Work aswell? (Like when many private People Lend you the money. I have no idea what this is called). So sad to know that you almost made it. I would Not give up. There must be other options. :(((
Isn't the schooling like 30k dollars or something? Or I just suck at math? That's just too expensive.
This was seriously fascinating to watch. Can't wait for the next video.
Thank you. Glad to see you back with Design Cinema, and as usual, you showed things I was not aware existed.
You are like one of the most 5 useful people on earth thank you for your hard work
Great! Really appreciate u still cutting some time to make those awesome videos, Feng Zhu
You’re the man, Feng! Hats off to you and the folks over at FZD for producing such useful content.
I watched this first in 2020 and coming back, it's awesome to see what I know now and also pick up on some things mentioned in this video that I didn't first grasp.
One on the best explanations of perspective I’ve ever seen. Thanx for continuing Design Cinema.
I can't tell you how long I've been trying to make these concepts click and BAM, Episode 91. Thanks Feng. Great work.
Thank God: you're alive, man!
And with an amazing topic for a video!
Thank you Feng for taking the time to do these videos for concept design enthusiasts and those seeking to improve on top of everything else you have going on. It is great to be able to learn from them and shows just how fortunate FZD students must be learning from you and other instructors.
I was moved to comment on this video after years of watching as a fan because this explanation of camera perspective sunk in for me more than explanations in books because they usually stop explaining the why at "things are smaller farther away", and proceed to jump into the how (technical perspective drawing tricks), which takes away my ability to intuit why all the tricks work. Great job breaking down the concepts and showing the applicability, it makes perspective feel more approachable. Looking forward to more excellent instruction!
It's been a while! Glad to see Design Cinema making a return!
Welcome back! Looking forward to watching this :)
So cool to have you back Feng!!! last months i reviewed some of your previous episodes again because their are worthy to be watched two or three times. I thought Design Cinema videos were R.I.Ping, so this are great and very welcomed news!!! thank you for putting this videos out. You are my favorite concept artist because both your work and your personality. Cheers.
Great material, Feng, as always. Thank you for putting out this amazing tutorials.
Yesterday I was watching some older episodes and wondering when next episode would land. Welcome back! :D
OMG! WELCOME BACK FENG! :)
Great to see another episode!
Amazing breakdown Feng. Thanks so much for this.
Welcome back man, missed DC a lot. Still listening to the old ones while I'm drawing.
Wow! - My Xmas present came early this year! Thanks for the upload Feng! We understand you have had a super busy 2018, wishing you all the best for 2019
It's great to see you back!
great great great great vid! These issues have been on my mind, thank you for taking the time to explain these concepts!
Thanks so much for taking the time to make another episode!
this literally destroyed my 3 yr artist block. Thank you.
Yeeees!! I can't believe this is back on, grate stuff man!
As always, Excellent lesson!!
And now I understand why thumbnails are so important.
Thank you so much for this video Feng.
Laying down the perspective laws like a boss 😎
So excited to see a new video Feng! Welcome back.
Amazing, you took an incredibly difficult topic and made it approachable, this video filled in a lot of gaps for me!
I like these shorter, more to the point lessons (not to say i didnt enjoy the 3+hour vids). This was really eye-opening, and helps makes the concept of perspective easier to consume.
All i ask is you keep these coming (pls), maybe even shorter, if need be...so long as the lessons can still be understood.
This is good stuff. And free! Thanks! Hope your recent projects have been treating you right. Wishing you well
YAY, THE RETURN
This was great. Looking forward to the upcoming videos that expand on this topic.
Finally! I love these, thank you very much
This is one of the best perspektiv video I have seen so far!!
And I have subscribed to a lot of artist on UA-cam in the last past years. And I have Scott Robertson books.
Helllll yeah! I have been waiting for this! :D
Welcome back man... great video for your return... :)
Yay! Feng is back !!! Sounds like a holiday present : D
You are a amazing and generous artist love u !!
Thank you Feng, really helps me out to watch design cinema
New tutorial! Good day to be on youtube!
Thank you Feng! I have missed you!!! Lol
OK seriously I have paid $100's of dollars for someone to just explain to me HOW AND WHY. Your series on this is literally the best out there. And it's free?! What the heck you are a legend. Brb gonna go watch all the videos in your library.... :0
PS even if you decided to put ads I'm sure everyone wouldn't care or mind, just sayin!!!
I'm so glad you're back, thanks for the new lesson, Feng!
Could you be so kind to answer a couple of questions?
- How can you guess the focal length of the lens just by looking at a picture?
- What is the reason of that there isn't perspective in the far distance? The size of the shortening on the objects are so small? Even if you draw some building blocks on this desert drawing, you don't have to worry about perspective?
- Why is the information of FOV important as such? And how can I figure out the FOV size based on the information of the lens' length (in case I don't have this chart with me)?
Thank you so much!
This explanation is great! Been struggling for YEARS to wrap my head around lens distortion. PLEASE cover wide angle shots in concept illustration!
Please keep up these Videos Fengh, we really missed them!
Looking forward to the next episode!
Thank you Feng!
Oh my goodness my heart is about to explode
Thank you Feng.
Fantastic video Feng! You compiled a lot of good information in a very easy to understand format. I find that some of these subjects can be quite confusing, especially deciding which lenses to choose and why, and you definitely make it all way more approachable. :D
I got so fed up with video about EA, Bethesda, Blizard and all that. Your video just refresh everything. Thank You!! Also I learnd a lot again from your video :)

Yes! We are back!
Thank you!
What an awesome way to start a day :D I would recommend you to up the audio volume a bit higher Feng, just to match the Intro and Outro volume. Thank you so much for putting all this info about camera lenses and different perspectives together, very useful knowledge and definitely something I don't always mind on my work. I should think more about my lens choices. Looking forward to your next video. I like this "short" format too, although I don't mind at all watching/listening to your 3h long videos :D
aaghhh this was funn!! lesgooo!!
Welcome back!
I got really sick this week while using a program called Bimx. it's a 3D architecture program for Archicad. Now I understand why!!
Hey Feng! Welcome back! For sake of speed would you ever consider doing paint overs of people trying to learn. Brief lessons on where they went wrong! Thanks man, you da man
