Perfect timing! I'm just getting ready to replace valve seals on a gen4 with the engine in the car. I'm going to try and zip tie the belt/cams together and replace valve seals one side at a time to prevent the belt from rotating too much. This was very helpful.. I just hope I don't have to remove that weird shaped engine bracket 🤞
Great video I just did the belt on my gen 2 I'm using a gates racing belt. Issue I'm having is I set the timing correctly I spin it around and I can slide the belt off of the cams with ease it seems the belt is very loose
It was literally impossible to install the belt without having the tensioner completely off to give perspective on how perfect of a fit the belt is supposed to be
Your dont have to, this is something i learned from my uncle years ago who is a professional dealer tech. That grease is actually vaseline and apparently helps to prime the pump on startup and reduce friction.
How did you get that belt on? Did you put the belt on, then the tensioner? What order did you put everything back after placing the lower cover on to see if you were at top dead center?
Install the belt and once you have all the marks alligned go ahead and install the tensioner. You need to have the lower cover and crank pulley installed since there are no other timing marks on the side of the engine to allign the crank pulley.
Just remove the right side mount and remove the three bolt from the rear mount. That will give you enough access to use a jack/wood on the oil pan to raise and lower the engine to get to the crank pulley.
Yes it was a tight fit and you need the correct length bolt to slide at an angle. I also removed rear engine mount to allow me to jack the engine a bit higher to provide more access. I was stomped for a while like you but finally figured it out using this method. You got this
Would have enjoyed a greater detailed exploration of the actual timing belt install and replacement then what was presented left me feeling cheated. Click bait cheated .
Hello. Its a challenge to film doing the timing with the engine installed. For reference I have more detailed videos on the channel replacing the timing belt on a gen4 and gen5 , 3sgte. Appreciate the feedback.

Good luck , if you need to redo the timing i have a video on the gen4. Just look in my library. Appreciate the feedback and watching the video.
Very professional work. 👏👏
@@johague9981 thank you
@@bitingantz I want to replace the hormonic ,did you remove the from motor mount ?😊

Great video Ryan man that intercooler didnt want to come out….uncle Kev Mr2 coming strong
That intercooler was a project by itself.
@@bitingantz i saw that lol you was sweating lol
Saludos desde Panama !!!
Hola amigo
Thanks for doing this. I think my cam seals are leaking and will have to do this same process.
You can do it, let me know if you have any questions along the way.

Do you have a new tensioner and did you can the # of teeth on the new belt to confirm its the same as the original belt.
It was literally impossible to install the belt without having the tensioner completely off to give perspective on how perfect of a fit the belt is supposed to be
Yes new tensioner and exact same belt
Hmmm, double check the tensioner is installed correctly but it definitely should not be that loose. Something if wrong for sure
Yes tensioner is new and I did count teeth
Awesome video
Thanks
Thanks man
When you pulled the oil pump out, I noticed you put a whole bunch of grease. Do you need to do this, if so, what type of grease did you use?
Your dont have to, this is something i learned from my uncle years ago who is a professional dealer tech. That grease is actually vaseline and apparently helps to prime the pump on startup and reduce friction.
@@bitingantz Thank you!
Changing that belt was very labor intensive. Now that you've changed a timing belt with the engine in the car, and out, which one would you recommend?
Depends on the situation, based on how many other tasks I had planned, removing the engine is just as labor intensive
How did you get the crank pulley out of the car while the motor was still in the car?
Just remove the right side mount and remove the three bolt from the rear mount. That will give you enough access to use a jack/wood on the oil pan to raise and lower the engine to get to the crank pulley.
@@bitingantz thanks
wwait a minute , i dont have an intercooler xD
How did you press the cam seals in on the intake cam? Space was too tight for me to fit a 36mm socket
Hello i used a pvc cap fitting from home depot. If you have seen my previous videos installing the crank seal on the gen4/5 its the threaded cover.
@@bitingantz Thanks! You were able to fit the PVC cap and press the seal in by threading a bolt through the center? All within that tight space?
Yes it was a tight fit and you need the correct length bolt to slide at an angle. I also removed rear engine mount to allow me to jack the engine a bit higher to provide more access. I was stomped for a while like you but finally figured it out using this method. You got this
Random question, but where do you get those red plugs for the engine?. The ones from your engine rebuild videos
