I don’t mess around with my glitter polishes. Two layers of polish, top with Seche Vite to fast dry. I let them totally dry, maybe three or four hours and put on a layer of gel polish top coat, cure in a LED lamp, wipe off the sticky layer with alcohol. Nails are smooth as glass and will not chip. Perfect system.
That sounds like a good system. I don't have gel polish and I'm not really intrested in it as I change my polish every 2-3 days and since Gel is supposed to be for longer wear time I feel it would be wasted on me. And Seche Vite ALWAYS shrinks my polishes from the tips. I don't know why, but I've never been able to use it without some polish shrinkage, which is a shame because it does give you a super shiny finish
Thank you so much for posting this video! I've been using Gelous for years, but it never quite seems to smooth out the truly chunky glitters the way I would like. It gets them smoother, but not glass smooth the way I like. So once I learned about Glitter Grabber, I went looking for comparison videos or blog posts to see if it did a better job than my old standby. Your video is exactly what I wanted. Off to buy some Glitter Grabber and bust out the chunky glitters!
You’re welcome! I’m going to do a comparison on different glitter grabber type top coats. I love doing comparisons of anything! 😆 and if it helps someone else, the better!
I definitely want to try the Glisten and Glow glitter grabber and their top coat too, but I'm using the KB Shimmer Clearly On Top and it's actually a really good gel like effect after two coats
I have used the KBS top coat in the past, and did enjoy it but I like the plump and shiny look that Glisten and Glow gives me more. I think you shoulnd't have a problem with using the glitter grabber and then the KBS. G&G top coat is my all time favorite so that's why I used this on the video but I also love the Tonic Top coat, KBS Top Coat, the Quixotic matte top coat. and the Anchor and Heart Top and matte top coats. Oh and for mainstream the Out the Door top coat is really good too
@@Gotaluvpolish Yeah you're right. I'm definitely going to have to pick up that glitter grabber. Thanks for the suggestions for other top coats tho ..i'll definitely try those too when I run out of top coat.
Such good timing! I ordered G&G glitter grabber from PPU last month and it came in today. I’d never used a glitter smoothing top coat before. I’m swatching now and OH MY WORD. Why didn’t I get this sooner. You’re right- worlds better than two layers of topcoat. Great comparison! I’m keeping backups of this!
YAY!! I'm so glad you like it. I need to get more. I'm going to wait until they come out with some for PPU so I can make one purchase instead of making separate purchases on different sites, but I LOVE this product. I already have a decent fill line because I use it with anything that has a little texture. Even my flakes, and I honestly don't need to use it with flakes, I just like how the finish product looks.
I've been using the Glitter Grabber a lot lately and I'm loving it too! I'm actually wearing it now over an old school glitter crelly and it worked great! I'm so mesmerized by your polish in this video, I've got to wear mine this month for sure!!
Hi, it seems that the glitter grabber works really well for you. Is there a particular technique you use in application to achieve a smooth look and texture? For example do you use a thick coat? Do you use multiple layers of the GG, etc?
YAY! I hope you wear your polish. I was so surprised that the formula wasn't gloopy and stringy. Prefect application with no added thinner too. SUPER impressed. I love my Different Dimension polishes but the glitters on those get so dry SO quickly. and you know that I always clean the tops before I put them away... So I don't know why KBS lasted as long as it did and the DD doesn't.
So the way I use it is, the Glitter Grabber first wait a couple of minutes to let it settle in between the nooks and cranies of the texture/glitter/crelly/flake polish, then top it with a regular top coat. I prefer the Glisten & Glow top coat, but I've used Tonic, Cuticula, MSM ect.
@@Gotaluvpolish Thank you so much for answering this question! I think I wasn't giving it enough time to dry and will also try using G&G top coat with it since I have it. Take care!
This was a great video. I bought a glitter grabber that I enjoy using. Before I had that, I found using a ridge filling base coat under my top coat did the trick very well. I would do not know how well it would work on the most textured of polishes, but on most of the ones I have it was great.
I actually don't have any ridge filling base coats, but that sounds like it would work.. but aren't ridge filling base coats usually opaque in color? I"m glad you're enjoying the Glitter Grabber, I didn't have high hopes for it but it really did prove me wrong.
What a fantastic comparison! I've also found that with double top coat or Gelous plus top coat, while it may seem smooth for the first couple house, sometimes by the next day it has settled into all the nooks and crannies and I have a little texture again. That doesn't happen with the Glitter Grabber! p.s. I am so glad you like this and that you trusted me enough to try it!
Thank you, thank you, Stacy! I'm so glad I trusted you too! It has totally changed the game for me. I had doubts, due to my previous experience but this is a phenomenal product. I agree, I should have mentioned that too about the Gelous or double top coats, I get texture again the next day.
That was a great comparison! I don't have any glitter grabber topcoats but if I was going to try one it would be the Glisten & Glow one. Those polishes are stunning and it's great that you did a test on different brands of textured polishes. Great job!
Thank you so much Cami! I had a really fun time comparing them. I wish I would have added a couple more finishes to compare but for me the G&G blew the Gelous out of the water. I noticed that the next day the Gelaous had a little more texture to the finish than the G&G but they both still looked reall ynice.
Another reason to use G&G glitter grabber versus the Gelous is that Gelous contains camphor, for those of us with sensitivity to camphor (like me), and GG is 5 free.
True! I know that for me, I don't pay attention to the ingredients as much as I know I should. But that's a great reason to use the G&G instead of Gelous.
I have Painted Phalanges glitter smoothing top coat. I like it a lot. It makes my polish matt though when it dries, so I put a regular top coat over it and it's perfectly smooth and shiny. I also have Dollish Polish glitter grabber but I haven't tried it yet. Does the G&G Glitter Grabber dry matt or shiny? Do you have to put regular top coat over it to make it shiny?
The way that I understand it, you always put on a top coat over the glitter grabber, the point of the glitter grabber is to fill in the crevasses of the polish after the polish dries and settles, leaving the mani feeling bumpy and textured. G&G stays pretty shiny, not as shiny as top coat, but it doesn't look matte at all. Hope this helps.
Hi! Thank you for making this video! I have to 100% agree with you about the Glitter Grabber still having a bit of texture to it. It does help to give a smooth shine but when I look at it from an angle I can see that it is a bit ridgy. I've wondered whether its because I didn't use a thick enough coat of GG or this is main feature. But I will be experimenting with putting it over a regular base coat first and then a glossy top coat over it to see if it would make a difference. So yeah, three layers of top coat, Lol.
I think it's more the polish still has ridges from the begining, the other polishes didn't have those ridges and were entirly smooth that polish is just, really really lumpy. LOL. I thankfully havne't had to use 3 layers of top coat after using the glitter grabber but I could see it being a think for super lumpy polishes.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with these! I find that often the first couple hours after I apply, there is smoothness if I do a couple coats. But after a few hours, topcoats seem to really sink in and I can feel the texture. Ugh. I just received my Glitter Grabber in my PPU order yesterday-- I am soooo excited to use it. I love the look of glitters and flakies-- but I want them to glassy smooth. And my topcoats have not been able to achieve that on their own even on multiple coats. Hoping this works for me! :)
I hope that it works for you and you love it, Robin! I know when I do too many coats with top coats, it will make the polish easier to peel off my fingers.
