Mahalos for posting this up. The moment you flashed the ride outside I knew this had to be back home.

DevilFish- My latch is broken so it needs to be replaced(good video!). However, my 99 4Runner Limited has had issues where the electric lock does not function when activated at the drivers door, all other locks were activated. Did you have to do any shenanigans with "reprogramming" the system to get the hatch lock (not the latch) to begin working after replacement of the latch? I assume no because the rest of your vid. was so thorough I would be surprised if you needed to and didn't include it. BTW, I really appreciate you walking through the steps and not glossing over things like how you removed the interior access panel. Those hidden gotchas lurk everywhere it seems.

Hi, no thankfully this was strictly a mechanical issue for me.

You have to disconnect the battery after replacement and then it will reset when battery is reattached!

Great video…for my moms 4runner it’s closes. We have to do it hard and stays closed. I was wondering you should just buy the new one first or just try to lube it up and then buy it?

Hey not sure if I understand what you're asking, taking everything apart is a bit of a pain so you can verify the seller's return policy, then once you have the part in hand do not open it but refer to my video at 3:25 to see if you can lube the key portions and get them moving again. If successful you can return the unopened part. The part wasn't expensive though so IMO you may as well replace it because it will probably fail eventually. Hope that helps.

@@jrod4491 good luck; you know I just realized how many views this little video has gotten and I couldn't be more surprised! This part must fail a lot. Based on this alone I would lean towards just replacing it.

Did they inform you how you might tell latch is broken like if there’s was a metal piece that was broken that was essentially the middle man part between the cable and actual latch component

They didn't but if you watch at about 4:05 you can see me manually engage the latching mechanism so you can try the same thing, but actually considering the interest in this video I think you should just replace it anyway because they must go bad a lot! And the part wasn't expensive. My car was exposed to saltwater and I assumed that corrosion was the root of my problem.

@@Do_Worrk insane is an airbag sensor on my 5th gen got damaged and the dealer told me I needed to replace the entire engine harness for around $6k including $300 shipping. That's not including any labor.

The whole purpose of these videos is to show how you do things! To cut video and say “ok, I got the tension wire on” without showing that process is useless! Fortunately, I know how to do it from fixing bicycles forever but even the back panel, you need to show how you slide it into place and not just say…ok, I put it back on! Not a helpful video at all!
