I love the way you explain what you are doing and why! I've changed many starters and the worst one was on a 92' Caprice Classic because I had to remove a metal brace that ran diagonally below the starter. Shouldn't have been a problem except it called for two 15 or 18mm wrenches and I only had one and had to walk a mile to the auto parts store!
Is there any way to reach and "tap" the starter to see if it cranks? Someone's selling me one that needs a starter but I'm worried if I buy and the engines bad or something
Rn I’m having a problem trying to get the manifold back on with the boot. A bolt is in the way of just being able to set it down nicely. But once I do I won’t be able to get back to the bolt
A lot less painful. No crawling around underneath multiple times to find where the socket rolled under your body while loosening up the starter bolts. And no interference from the tranny tunnel.
I have a 2001 eldorado starter free spinning not engaging also have to disconnect the battery to stop the starter spinning is the starter no longer good h0w to fix
You skipped over the part where the other end of the manifold doesn't lift up by the power steering pump and may being afraid that I'm going to Snap something off. Would love to know the secret
A water pump on the later Northstar engines is a complete pain as the entire water jacket assembly on the intake side of the engine has to come off. A bunch of by feel or 1/8 turn bolts. Took me about 10 hours, lucky my kids know all the bad words already. On the older ones the pump came out from the non engine side and could be done in about an hour.
Those Northstar engines are nice but damn they put some stuff on them in the damnest places. I don't know, I guess GM crammed everything they could in there so they could put it all in the tiniest of places. oh well, still a cool ass ride
Yeah not too bad of a job but amazing things still running. Northstars man head gasket paradise. The water pumps are interesting as well. On some its driven off OPPOSITE side to serpentine belt
Why does nobody record them taking the manifold off? 😢
Thx for vid. Always learn new things from u and your dad.
Simple & plain. Thank You Sir💯❤️💙
Great video!! Im about to change the starter on my grandmothers car and this just made life easy for me!

Hi Tyler, great to see you again. when are you going to continue your bus build ?
Check his previous videos. There was one about three days ago detailing the roof coatng job.
A starter under the intake... how quaint. Thanks for the upload. Pretty interesting.
Sure beats taking an exhaust manifold off to get to starter no rusted / broken bolts.

Looks like it might be easier than under the car.

I have a Buick Lucerne with the same issue sort of my crankshaft position sensor is bad how do I contact you about a consultation??
Unfortunately I'm no longer doing automotive work.
@@Spyke383 thank you anyway!! 🫡

I woulda changed that knock sensor while in there.
cool clip, keep them coming

@@Goose-Grip that one came off without any real issues
Yeah no joke thing just dead stops on the PS reservoir
Great explanations. Thanks.

Yup
Love to see why they put a starter in a hot spot
Perfect video
Might be a little high heat place for the starter but surely they have done their testing too...
Inside of that throttle body looked filthy.

👍🏼
Looks like this one would scoot along nicely indeed. :-)
V8 Toyota at least the 4.7l is that way too
The 5.7L 3UR-FE has it on the bottom.

I would rather change Northstar starters then toyota v8 starters which is much more work.
Seems like a tiny starter for a V8.
Gear reduction.
Northstar? If that were my car i'd put an LS in it.
If that were my car I'd sell it and buy anything with an LS in it🤣🤣🤣
That'd be way too much work lol. Fwd v8 isn't worth it
