My Dad started traveling internationally at 80 and only stopped travel at 95 and passed away peacefully at 97 with lots of fantastic memories and more friends around the world that could fit into the chapel at his funeral. I was so amazed at all the cards and well wishes from people my Dad met on his travels from around the world. I say keep going until you physically can't.
@Debbie D, thanks so much for sharing your story! IT meant a lot to listen and image and read about it. Your father continues to live on by having you share his story which in turn inspires us, the reader! What a gift 🎁 to share your story Debbie. Thank you so much. 💛🇨🇦
I used to love travel , but since I’m aging , I fear of flying, fear on road, fear on the sea, I am very admire you, you can overcome all the fear and enjoy the go-go life. Good for you!
Maybe try a little one or two day trip and see if you like it more than the fear of thinking about it. There is a nice Inn at Port Stanley which is near to you and lots to walk around and some great fish and chips, we did a video about our day trip there.
We're in our mid 60s and are trying to sell our business so we can retire, and even now we've noticed travel differences. We used to drive 10 hours a day with no problem, but that's tough now. So we've learned to slow down, accept the differences, but keep moving 😉 I say do what you CAN, for as long as you can. Thanks so much for another great video! Hugs from West Texas--
Think you’ve got it ! Candy do what you can and enjoy it , yes we have noticed differences, going to the airport flights etc isn’t as much fun now as it was few years back , also shorter car rides are better too that’s why we are enjoying our trailer which we bought 18 months ago less than 2 hours from home on a Lakeside Campground but each trip is a vacation. Have a great weekend good luck selling your business so you can enjoy your retirement Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🌺🍺🇨🇦
I’m 47 and retired now travelling around Europe. Its amazing the feeling of freedom I am having at the moment. Life is wonderful indeed without force labour. I am so glad I am doing it at an early age coz I am trekking and walking for hours and realise that I couldn’t possibly to this it if I am in my 60s.
We are very pleased Bebe you are having a great times to be retired at 47is amazing although we are in our 60s we can still walk a lot and enjoy our retirement Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement yes you are guys, you two are one of my inspirations, but I mean I love trekking high mountains and Its very hard when I get to my 60s and I was even asking myself why I was doing it but the feeling I get when I get to the top are amazing. thats why I am so glad that I am FIRE at 47 coz I was able to do all the things I love doing.
My husband & myself 78 yrs & 74 yrs are still in our 'go-go' years. Thoroughly enjoy travelling averaging 4 trips a year. Covid has put a temporary stop to this. Like so many others we have had to cancel numerous trips . Spent 3+ weeks in Mexico recently - wonderful. Planning trips to the USA and 2 to Europe this year. We pray God gives us quite a few more of the 'go-go' years as there is so much to see and experience in our world. Walking the Camino is one on our bucket list that had to be cancelled in 2020 because of covid - we are hoping to do this soon. Going to be one year older this year and are both raring to go. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. So many similarities in our retirement thinking. Thanks again.
Thanks so much Theresa, like you we want to get back to traveling. These stages of retirement are just some fun and not really following the decades of our lives. If you have the health and clarity of thought the go go years can last a long time. Have a nice weekend and thanks for watching.
I always enjoy your videos. My mom planned her own walking tours of England and packbacked with a girlfriend twice in her 70s. She continued to travel to the States, England and Australia. Her last trip to Australia was in her 90s. Her adventurous spirit was and is an inspiration to me. I hope to have a few adventures of my own once the world is safe again.
I retire in May and have been watching you guys for probably a least a year and have found your information really informative. Thank you both of you keep up the good work!
I think the ages of the stages change depending on the person. My parents are mid 60’s and they are already in their slow go years. My dad had a hard work life. I am 45 and already having back and hip problems. Your channel has me motivated to try and retire at 55. I am hoping that will give me at least 10 go-go’s.
Hi Tina/Norm, just watched your mindset video again! Regarding ageing....just wanted to tell you my Dad lived to 100yrs 10months and likely would have lived longer had I not moved them to a "home" - but he was getting fragile and climbing stairs at home was frightening and I could only come at weekends due to my work - he would use a handrail to assist going up stairs and leaning back!! I used to follow behind because I was so afraid...Anyhow I wanted to tell that I lived in CH and had him over there at the age 92 - it was summer and pretty warm (we tried going high...but 27C on Rigi! - a low mountain about 1500m) and we WALKED day after day, did all the sights Saentis, Pilatus etc and like I said it was really warm but he took it all. We went to Chillon (near Lausanne) and the castle staff were so pleased when I told them his age, they let him in free!!! We were the last out and got a bit lost towards the end as the castle is a myriad of walkways....it was funny, when they were closing one of the curators approached us and and asked "are you trying to get out or trying to get in..." Yes its great to have health and with age we realize its the only true possession of any value.
Totally agree with you. We are in our 60s and retired. We have similar experiences and outlook. Two further points. We spoke to people in their 70s last year and they said they found cruising easier at that stage because they didn't feel capable of doing all the electronic paperwork required for travel. Also we have found repositioning cruises to be really good. We did one which started out in Italy and traveled up the coast to Stockholm, calling in France, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK
That sounded like a great cruise 🚢 Stephen , we love repositioning cruises too usually nice itineraries and great value have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
I retired at 55. Now I’m 57, and I just returned to work for a short term project that was too good to pass up! But as soon as it’s over I get to travel Britain and Europe for four months. So it’s totally worth it 💕
Just like to add that the phases are very flexible. Go-go might be longer for some, shorter for others. For my wife and I, go-go is up to about age 75 or so. The longer one can put off slow-go and no-go the better and the primary reason for slowing down (for most) is ill health.
Thanks for that! My mom traveled with my son and I to Morocco and Marrakech at the age of 85. She continued to travel into her 90’s. She was in very good health though. She never had time to travel when she was younger. She had eleven children to raise lol
Thanks for your comment Margaret, it’s great your Mum got to enjoy some travels with you and your son. We enjoyed our trip to Morocco. Have a nice Sunday.
A lot of travel is my dream too guess often depends on your health often as we age health goes down hill great to hear your ideas *fully viewed👀💯A big thumbs up👍Au*
Definitely your health can certainly rock and change your travel plans, but being able to see and adapt to the change can really help you , hope you are having a great weekend Billy Cheers 🍷🇦🇺🇨🇦🌺🍺
I heard these three phases at least a decade ago, before I retired mid fifties so not new but still as valid as ever. They match what I have observed in many friends and family over the years. It helped convince me to retire early and do as much travel and physical activities as soon as possible while we still had most of our health and capabilities. The early retirement is cheating a little bit as we are trying and get 15-20 years of "go-go" years in before some health surprise forces the next two phases. Glad we started traveling and doing the active things at younger ages. Life has no guarantees and I watched too many people work a few years longer, then have some issue and never got the chance to do the things planned for decades in their retirement. We didn't want that to happen to us, and I'd suggest most readers don't either. If you love you job and it brings you joy and you never want to retire, that is great. But if you do plan to retire some day, then it is just a matter of money and tpicking a date. We found it better to move it up several years earlier. If you have the income/savings and things planned to do in retirement, it is wonderful and you won't miss work as much as you think. Good luck to all on your retirement journey.
Thanks David for sharing your experience, we wanted to use these terms "Go Go years", etc in a more health related idea of retirement to try and show how fragile retirement can be from a health and mobility aspect. The major attention of retirement channels is financial and savings. We are happy for you that your plans have worked out. Have a nice weekend.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement - Understand - I don't remember when I first saw those three phases of retirement described, but they have been around for a long time. I took them to heart and retired early. Until Covid we were traveling a lot to Maui and Italy annually plus several other trips to make sure we got to enjoy as many places as possible while we still have our health. We have missed our month snorkeling in Maui the last couple of years and want to get in a few more years before our physical abilities make going into the ocean unsafe. Hopefully sanity returns and things get back to normal soon. I agree - most channels focus on finance and savings. But my experience from knowing hundreds of retirees over the years is that most actually do not have money problems. People find a way to budget for living and fun, some just more exotic than others. The biggest problem I have observed is when people retire with no plans or interests. They sit at home and watch TV or surf the internet and get depressed. Many don't live long because work was their life and they would have been better not retiring. I have "coached" several former colleagues getting ready to retire on how to prepare. Beyond the budget and financial aspects, I make sure to tell them to think about what they will do with their new found time and use it as an opportunity yo do the fun things they dreamed about for decades. For some it is travel, others finishing home or car restorations, some start a hobby/business, learning a new skill, take classes, or just creating a bucket list and working through it. The idea is to retire TO something fun and rewarding. The happiest retirees I know are the ones who are so busy doing things they enjoy that they will often say that don't know how they ever found time to work. My dad was like that, and fortunately our retirement has been the same. You two seem to have a similar approach and are enjoying the freedom of retirement. I hope it continues that way for you for many years. Have a good weekend as well !
I'm in the go-go stage.. hubby is in the later slow-go heading into the no-go stage. We both noticed that there is a definite difference between the go-go and the no-go stage. So live it up while you can.. and enjoy whatever stage you're in with no regrets. Thanks for sharing..
You got this! enjoy life while you can and have the health but also remember some simple pleasures make life enjoyable too , enjoy your weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Certainly good advice to visit the far away places on your bucket list first. Try and keep doing what you love as long as you can is great advice. Our Dad always said he’d take our Mum to Hawaii and he got into his 70s and certainly his 80s and I think worried about what would happen to him if he was taken ill so far from home (he’d had a heart attack aged 67). So they never got to Hawaii together. Anyway, long story short, we remembered this after our Dad passed away and realised our dear old Mum was getting older and wouldn’t be around for ever or at least capable of doing the trip, so we took her. She was 85 at the time! Yes, travel insurance was expensive, indeed there comes a point where you’ll most likely find no one will insure you, but it wasn’t too crazy price wise if I remember correctly.. If you want to go you have to pay it, simple as that. Shop around is the only advice I can give. The Post Office here was often cheaper than some. Age UK I think was another we used. Everyone we met on holiday was amazed when she told them how old she was and that she’d travelled all the way from the UK. I think Mum did better than us at managing the flights back home!
What a lovely story Andrew thanks for sharing and glad your mum got to see Hawaii we agree some of those long flights ✈️can be brutal . You do have to shop around for everything even travel insurance have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🇬🇧🇨🇦🍺
Thanks Roger guess we always have and will in the future do things together ( other than Tina swimming and Norm going to the Car wash LOL 😂) Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
I started watching your videos just before I resigned my job, but because I’m a teacher, I resigned but still have four months to work. I’ll be done at the end of May 2022. When I planned to retire, I was thinking of what to do after retirement while my husband is winding down his working schedule (he’s self-employed). Then, I slipped on the ice and hurt my knees terribly. So, until I get these fixed, I am just not sure what to do. I want to travel, and exercise, and be with my grandchildren, but I can hardly stay on my feet long enough to enjoy it. So, do all you can while you are healthy. Go-go, slow-go, and finally the no-go years.
We are sorry to hear about your accident and hope you are getting better. You are right mobility is important to enjoy retirement. Have a great retirement.
And there's lots to do around where you live whatever age you are. In September (covid helped a bit since we were the only ones in the helicopter except of course the pilot) we took a Niagara on the Lake helicopter tour over the vineyards, the Niagara Gorge and Niagara Falls. A fantastic tour 20 - 25 minute tour (not a quick 7 minute one). It was wonderful. This year maybe Hot Air Balloon or White Water Rafting and who knows what else and we're apparently in slow go. Best advice I can give, don't wait for retirement to live. All life should be an adventure.
Yes you are right we have travelled locally the last two years, we even bought a trailer on a campground in Bruce County and have had a wonderful summer there. Thanks for watching.
Exactly! All of life should be an adventure! You got that right! I was traveling during the working years as well as when I took off to freedom retirement at age 45! I tell ya, putting more than 10% of ones earnings each year into the stock market and in dividend paying stocks that are solid large cap certainly was one of the smartest planning practices. Now the trick is to learn how to spend the saved up money wisely and not save so much!🙃😳. Ahhh! The challenges of retirement eh!😉 Like "NOT!" LOL😀 Stay safe...feels like covid is leaving us so we can get our lives back☘️🙄
Enjoyed your 3 stages. We are in the ‘go go’ years and live in Australia. Unfortunately our 23hr flight to Europe is huge! We are so eager to get to Europe and we’ve already missed 2 years through covid. We are planning to start next year. I think we will need stop overs for a few days to break our journey up now. But we’re determined to get there! Thankyou for your advice it’s so helpful and enjoyable.
Thanks Netty -Jane wow that’s long flight ✈️ times stop overs might be a great idea if you want to see Europe. Hope you have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🇦🇺 🍷🌺🇨🇦🍺
I am a new subscriber so am watching your videos very out of order. I am listening to The Wealthy Barber. I live near Little Rock, Arkansas and could only find an audio book version at our library system. But that works. I am enjoying it. Carole
I never hear you talk about exercise. I love and enjoy going to the big pool, putting on a floatation belt round my waist and cruising round the perimeters of the pool. Gentle no sweating and you don't get your hair wet. Called water walking. Then the Jacuzzi.
That's a great idea Padi , we have talked about exercise in a few of our videos, Tina goes swimming 🏊♀️ every day ( the pool has been closed for maintenance) but opening soon 🙂we walk either outside or up and down the floors if it’s cold most days . Yes it’s important to built exercise into retirement Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
You are right, exercise is the key to enjoyable old age. For the elderly no exercise means less active mobility and restrictions on all the best things like international travel.
Greetings from Kitchener. Another classic performance by the travelling retired dream team. I’m hoping to get go go going soon. Going back to Riverboats and cruising sounds like a great option when we are older but we like them anytime. We have been fortunate to have been on many vacations and flights to many similar destinations. We believe in living the life through life’s journey as no one knows what tomorrow brings. Great advice and information from you two U-tube stars. Best of health and lets hope for world peace and Covid going away so we can all travel again soon. Take care. Paul
Sounds like you have had a wonderful retirement Paul with lots of travel memories which is awesome , we are also hoping to GoGo soon but in the meantime we are loving our Canadian backyard and the Bruce Peninsula where we have bought a wonderful trailer on a Lakeside Campground Cheers 🍷🚢🌺🍺
Really enjoyed this video. I retired at 60 and started right off with traveling to Alaska and Canada. These past 2 years with Covid have seen our river cruise from Budapest to Prague rescheduled a few times and now up in the air. Definitely got much to fit in from my bucket list. Looking forward to the next 5-7 years. My go-go years will have to go a bit longer, hopefully. Cheers!
That is awesome! Sheryljane we loved out river cruise Budapest to Prague hope you get there , we also hope the go go years keeps going a bit longer to make up from loosing the last two years 😷Cheers 🍷🌻🍺
Hi. So hoping we get to travel soon . Going to Edinburgh this summer so it will be nice to get away . Good to look forward to something but I could do with a walk on the beach with a lovely sunset and the sound of the ocean. One day. Not looking forward to restrictions going completely. Stay safe. Have a lovely day. See you next week. 🙏🏴💖
We love Edinburgh 🏴 Norm was born there , we hear you a walk on the beach , sunset and ocean 🌊 would be nice we all just need to be patient and wait a little bit longer . Counting down the days to our trailer Kincardine has lovely sunsets 🌅, but we are fortunate we also get beautiful sunsets at our apartment. Stay safe and keep warm Carol 🔥Cheers 🍷🏴🇵🇹🍺🇨🇦🤗
I love watching your show. Retirement is still a little ways off for me but it helps to get a little insight to get me prepared. Thank you for sharing!
We are supposed to do the a river cruise as well. Prague for 3 days, then Passau Germany to Budapest in another month! Well depending on the situation in the Eukraine. Still working for another 14 months. Glad you are enjoying your gogo years!
Hi Paul, it sounds like your trip was similar to ours we went the other way Budapest to Nuremberg then bused to Prague. It really is a strange time and does raise some concerns about travel in the region. We hope it works out for you and you get to enjoy a wonderful cruise.
Hope you are having a great weekend Tina and Norm. Love hearing about all your travels. We have traveled to Cuba, Jamaica, Cozumel, Portugal, Alberta and smaller trips to the US. In the summer we also love heading over to Manitoulin Island. With my mother, sister and aunts we went on a Alaskan cruise, went on a tour down east to Nova Scotia and took the ferry over to Newfoundland. My sister and I went on a 8 country bus tour in Europe in '97. When were school age we spent most March breaks in Myrtle Beach, went to Florida a couple of times as well, which at the time were so exciting for us. As a family when we were younger we also drove out west to BC and went up to Hay River, NWT to visit our uncle and his family there. Looking forward to traveling again, would love to do a European River cruise. Every vacation is an adventure. Thanks for another great video. 🌞❤
It sounds like you have had some wonderful trips, we enjoyed driving out to B.C. it really showed us what a great country Canada is. We hope to take the ferry this summer to Manitoulin Island and explore for a few days. Myrtle Beach seamed to be the family vacatcentre for Canadians during March break, we always loved it there. We do hope you get to do a European river cruise it’s an amazing experience. Thanks for watching, have a great weekend 💕🌺🥂🇨🇦
Wow,, you’ve had some amazing holidays ,, all those cruises ,, what fantastic memories you must have to look back on,, living the dream ,, good on ya 🇨🇦🏖🛳🏴 ,, best wishes, Lisa
Hi Lisa we jumped straight in to our early retirement and we had always wanted to travel so glad we did as never thought Covid was leaking in the future LOL 😂 have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement the past 2 years has been very isolating for people who like to travel, hopefully we’re over the worse now and can start booking holidays again ,, I prefer to take my holidays in the winter, mainly to Spain,, but may try Portugal after watching your videos ,, I have 2 allotments to tend to in the summer so I’m happy to stay at home here in the UK ,, my bit of paradise ,, 🍓🫐🍎🥦🥕🥬🌶🌽🥔🧅
@@lisag9493 Yes the last two years have been very hard we might even look at Spain 🇪🇸 As well as Portugal 🇵🇹 Your allotment sounds nice our bit of paradise is our trailer on a Lakeside Campground Cheers 🍷🇬🇧🍺🇨🇦🌺
I retired 10 months ago at age 65. Covid has slowed down a lot of thing for me such as traveling, but I am glad I am not working anymore. Hoping to be pretty active until mid-70s.
Hi Donna congrats on your retirement we think Covid has slowed us all down , but main plus is not working and having the freedom of retirement Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
I’m 69 Cabin Crew for 40 years......Been retired for 5 now......got into a ground hog routine......just gone music tasting ....booked a 3 day Marillion concert weekend .....In Portugal!! Be great to jump out of my box 🥳🥳
Thanks for your comment, we live such a sheltered life that we didn’t know who Marillion was, just Googled and listened…….terrific thanks for letting us know! Enjoy your tour and Portugal 🇵🇹👍
Excellent vid! I’m planning my slo for years now. I’m single and 70, I have always wanted to go on a Viking River cruise. Hoping very soon! Thanks guys… 🥰
At 74 yrs I couldn’t. disagree more, ‘slow go’ no way. I and many other friends (same age) are as active as ever, International travel and enthusiasm full on. Still in your sixties you are in the youth of old age. If our decades are compared to the days of the week, you are on Friday afternoon, I am on Saturday afternoon make the most of it. Really retirement for me is in two parts, active and less active, I am saving the cruising for the less active years. In my teens and twenties I was inspired by Paul Theroux “The Great Railway Bazaar”, now I find it absolutely fascinating to revisit many of those same places to see how things have changed. “The World is your lobster”
I don't disagree with your take on retirement, but you are generalizing. Much of your good fortune is genetics. My family rarely lives less than 90. I haven't had so much as a cavity in the last 40 years. My wife's family are what I call "death prone" -- virtually all of them die before 60. Renal failure, strokes, Lupus, etc....Be happy that you were dealt a good hand, but not everyone is so fortunate.
I realise that there are many people who are less fortunate because of inherited family health problems. After retirement my health was in decline but I very soon realised that the only to health and happiness in old age is some form of vigorous exercise everyday, no excuses allowed. My priorities now are physical/mental health, independence then money, in that order.
Great video as always. You two are so charming. We are only a few years away from retirement. We are watching a few people and we totally agree, there are 3 stages. Go Go, Slow Go and No Go. We credit Parallel Wealth Channel, no affiliation. Spending more in the beginning, then slowing down, and then spending should be less. Thanks again. Enjoying your videos and and advice very much!
You bring up some good points. I totally agree that you should try to retire by 60 and get your travelling in. We loved our cruises to Alaska and through the Panama Canal. We went to Germany to see where my husband was born. Berlin was fascinating and probably the best place I ever explored. Now my spouse and our travelling friends and I are between 67 and 70. None of us are well enough to travel outside the country again so I am so glad we did so when we could. I am hoping that we can manage to take the RockyMountaineer train out west in the fall and maybe the Georgian Bay day cruise in the summer. There are lots of places we can explore in North America. You never know what is going to happen so do things while you can and treat the rest as bonus time. I have a cousin who travelled a couple of years ago to Iceland and he is in his mid 90's so you never know.
Sounds like some great ideas Susan, we would love to do train 🚂 travel in both Canada 🇨🇦 and the USA 🇺🇸, we also loved our visit to Iceland 🇮🇸 Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
You two are the best, learning a lot from each of your videos however, you messed me up on this one. I'm a bit OCD and all the videos I've watched so far have Tina on the right and Norm on the left. You switched it up this time (yes, change is good, I know) but it weirded me out. If we were to get to one tenth of the places you have traveled I would feel completely satisfied. So appreciate you as role models for seniors, your zest for life and love for each other are truly inspiring. Keep 'em coming! (Note: Now I am seeing other videos where you "switch it up" - good for you). You're vids on Portugal are particularly intriguing to me.
You what they say variety is the spice of life LOL 😂 actually we keep changing sides on lots of our videos maybe you just haven’t noticed before . Glad you are enjoying them and we are very fortunate to have the memories of the wonderful trips we have done Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Thanks for another inspiring and make me smile video. I totally agree with you guys. I will use this as a guideline in planning my future travels. Thanks continuing to share with us great ways to better enjoy retirement.
Really good to talk about these stages, go-go, slow-go and no-go stages. I learned about these stages through a Canadian youtube financial wealth planning website, Adam. So glad you talked more about what it could look like and things to consider. Nice one! One important thing in financial planning in each of these stages is to make sure one "ladders" the income stream. More income available in go-go stage, wisely planned, so that by the time you get to no-go you still have enough to live on but don't need as much because one isn't traveling as much...due to health or ... ran out of places to go travel! Wow! Wouldn't that be a nice problem to have eh! No more places to travel!😳😀😉 Thanks for you very nice presentation, again.💯🇨🇦🍁
Impressive list. You guys have hit the GOGO Stage pretty hard there...until we all got put on pause of course. Awesome!! Here's to beating the STATS and 'kicking it' all the way into your 90's 👌🏾😊🍷🍷🍷🍺🍺🍺🎶✨💃🕺🎶✨🌺👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Cheers!
We are fortunate we have been able to do some wonderful trips , ✈️🚢 that yes got put on hold since Mar 2020 🤔hoping things start to open up but till then we will enjoy the Bruce Peninsula and our trailer on our Lakeside Campground that has been a wonderful investment and blessing to get us through these unusual times . Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement OH YES! Fortunate & humble. many many more years of travel & safety 4U. I proud of you guys for waiting until this thing really clears up. Bruce Penn looks like a beautiful place to be on hold in. Cheers to you two, too. ;-)
Thank you for another insightful video. I surely hope my husband and I can retire at me 59 and he 60 in 3 years. I’m also passionate about travel. We hope to live in Italy our first year or 2 of retirement as we have Italian decent and could take advantage of free healthcare until our Medicare kicks in.
We wish you both a wonderful retirement, those are the perfect ages! to do it and a stay in Italy 🇮🇹 sounds wonderful Dorina , have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🇮🇹🌺🇨🇦🍺🇺🇸
Hi Tina and Norm, We look forward to your weekly video so much. My wife just turned 60 last week, I turn 60 in July. We always assumed that we would retire at age 65. We have done an okay job saving and are fortunate to both have a very modest military pension that we are currently receiving, and once we turn 65 we both will receive a moderate employer pension. Our social security maximizes at age 67. My biggest concern is that I still owe about $120k on my home. So, we thought let's work until age 62, pay off as much as we can on our home, continue to pay into our deferred comp (via work) and just plan on leaving at age 62. Get a little part-time job a few hours a week and make do with the modest pension. Sell the house and downsizing to a smaller home, paid off. Then go, go, go.... and relax a bit. Does anything sound terrible about this? I worry. Trust both of your suggestions and if anyone else has any recommendations, please don't hold back. Much appreciated.
Hi Joan when we retired our plan was to be debt free so we sold our home invested the money and we now are happy renting. Selling your home would pay off the mortgage sounds a good idea if you could then avoid taking on future debt will probably make you feel better Cheers 🌺🇺🇸🍺🇨🇦
We are thinking of retiring in the next 2 or 3 years. Nervous about this crazy inflation in the U.S. and the stock market crashing, losing our 401k with no time to make it up. It is trying times.
I've seen so many couples plan their retirement only to be devastated by seeing it all fall apart when one of them falls ill. My parents were only one year in when dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 66. You can't really plan that far ahead in retirement.
That is very sad we are so sorry that happened, yes you are right none of us has a crystal ball 🔮 and we don’t know what the future holds .That is why it’s best if you can to enjoy each day as it comes have a lovely weekend 🍷🌺🙂
Love all topics of your channel with travel as my favourite. Today you mentioned that a river cruise was one of your past travel highlights and really would like to hear more about ours experiences with this different form of cruising. Maybe a future video could be a river cruise vs traditional cruise…both pro and con. I don’t know anyone who has done a river cruise so research would be difficult for me. My wife and I love your weekly videos and your honest and positive outlook on retirement!!
Thanks for the suggestion , they are totally different cruises , River cruises generally are more expensive but includes excursions, food and most drinks plus you just glide along at land level always something to see we loved it . We have done many traditional cruises loved them all some great itineraries, plus Transatlantic cruises are great price deals usually. Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Great video! What’s also interesting is according to Morningstar, retirement spending coincides with each retirement phase: high spending for the go go years (travel, adventure, etc), low spending during the slow go years (some say it’s when retirees have it figured all out, less travel), and high spending again during the no go years (the main spending is focused on healthcare). This is also called the “retirement smile” because the graphic is shaped like a wide letter “u” when shown on a graph. This will help people to figure, analyze, or balance their retirement fund during the 3 phases.
go while you have got good health !!!, if you don`t you will regret it !!! I have been to China once because my wife is Chinese and visited the capital to view the hidden city, then we went up to her parents city , and came back through Shanghai airport. Shanghai was my favourite city for old British buildings, but the great wall of China was another must see for me.The flight times are very long with 3 plane rides. Next trip has to be Europe and the Med just to show Xioling the history of the old mother country.
We loved our trip to China 🇨🇳 we flew into Beijing ✈️and yes we had 3 flights too . Nice plan to share Europe with your wife Xioling have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Great perspective. As a US citizen since birth, I have a quite extensive bucket list in the US to see. I will go go there exclusively. Not interested at all in going outside the US. Should be less expensive also rather than traveling abroad. Thanks for the insight on different stages. I couldn’t agree more. Looking forward to getting started in 2023.
Thanks for the suggestion Dianne, on our last trip we just took a Carry on each as we do laundry there you really don’t need as much as you think Cheers 🍷🇵🇹🌻🍺
Any suggestions and tips for reducing costs when travelling alone at retirement? For whatever reason, many of us are now « single ». Thank you so much. I love all your videos.
Thanks for the question Jocelyne, increasingly vacation companies are offering solo traveler discounts, many cruise lines have solo traveler cabins that you don't pay the surcharge for a double cabin. Perhaps travel with a friend and share accommodation. AirBnB is great because you can search for rooms not just whole apartments so you don't pay the double surcharge. Always look for happy hours for discounts on food and beverages, these are not just bars and restaurants but hotels too with free food in the evening (Homewood Suites). Thanks for watching our videos we really appreciate it Jocelyne!
My husband and I are in the “slow go” time of life. Fortunately, we haven’t slowed down as yet. Recently we enjoyed a 17 day transatlantic cruise. Cruising is our preferred travel experience for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
Entering the Go Go Years myself. Have two trips planned this summer to the SW (Vegas, then Grand Canyon, and Sedona Arizona). The wife wants to go to Hawaii and I want to go Portugal. We’ll flip a coin to see where we go first.
My sister, Dad, and I went to Germany for 2.5 weeks when Dad was 83. Did fly biz class so that was more restful. Always stayed at least 2 nights in the same place and just generally took our time with things. Could he do it today at 89? Stairs are harder for him now, but other than that, as long as we can take our time, he's good. So I think for some, 80-90 can just be slower go. Love your videos. Just found them. Thanks so much.
That’s wonderful to be able to share travels with your Dad, business class does make travel less stressful. Thanks for finding us and sharing your story, we are happy you are here.
When you mention 3 to 4 weeks is this once a year? I have a tendency of doing 1 European, and 1 southern trip per year. But was wondering if you travel more than once a year. Keeping in mind a travel could include a trip visiting somewhere in Canada (driving or flying).
Since we took early retirement for the first 5 years we were probably doing 6-8 trips a year this stopped when Covid came . We were going to Portugal 🇵🇹 over the winter for 1 or 2 months at a time which we loved . Due to all the travel restrictions 18 months ago we bought a trailer Estelle which is on a Lakeside Campground just 2 hours from home so we are enjoying travelling around there each visit is just like going on vacation. Hope this helps have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Great tips, a cruise sounds great. Is it possible to go over cruising details like cost, documents needed, what costs extra and what rooms/level do you recommend, what you can and can not take?...I think it would be very helpful for first timers. Please discard my comment if you already shared this type of video....I just don't recall watching it. Thank you both!!
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Today we made it official that our last rat race days and our Go Go years begin the last day of March 2022. Just can't wait. Thanks for all the shared advice.
We've been in our GoGo years for almost 8 years now, retiring at 61 and a bit, and while on self-guided trips in Europe we have seen the river cruise ships docked. We had a look at them then and thought "Not yet, maybe in our 70s". We have booked a river boat cruise on the Nile for 2023 and we will be 70 then. As you said it's not that you can't travel well into your 70s but I think the type of travel changes. By the way the GoGo, SlowGo and NoGo terms have been in use for some time (I first heard of it probably 8-9 years ago) and it's a great concept to keep in mind when planning your retirement. I think the main take away is to not hold off on spending the money you've saved for retirement, especially in the early years. As you said, the early years of retirement are also your most healthy years and when you can really enjoy the money you've saved. Often people plan level spending throughout their retirement with perhaps an inflation factor included whereas another approach is to ladder your spending with more in the early years and less later on. The reality for most people is that spending falls off substantially as you reach your late 70s and 80s, travel is often off the table and spending on capital items such as cars and furniture are close to zero. Of course you might need care late in life but even that is usually only for a year or two and often you'll have a house to sell that you'll no longer need. I think for most people it shouldn't be a major problem. I know that for my wife and me both our parents and grandparents all lived in their own homes until almost the end. Enjoy life, and your GoGo years, while you can.
Your river cruise 🚢 on the Nile sounds very exciting, must admit when we did our River cruise Norm was 58 and Tina was 56 we thought it was wonderful and lots of people our age on it . We did like that it included all the excursions, food and most of the drinks 🍷🍺 would love to do another one have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺🚢
Hi Tina and Norm....as you know that I love your videos. I am wondering if you can give us an idea on cost of travel insurance.... I know that it is dependent on past and current illnesses but a gauge would help. Also can you give us info on what OHIP covers when one becomes 65 or choosing to retire at 60 and do we have to buy any health insurance when we become seniors.. thank you
For the plan we are on we pay $326 a year that gives us multiple trips up to 31 days a plan attached to our Bank of Montreal credit card. When you turn 65 you get a yearly Free eye test and you just pay the first $100 for prescriptions then the rest is free with OHIP .We don’t buy any additional insurance other than when we are travelling Auriel have a great weekend Cheers 😎🍷🇨🇦🌺
Hi Tina and Norm! Great information... I was never one for cruises as i always thought they were too slow for me. I only took a 3 days trip from Cape Canaveral to Bahamas on a Disney ship I kinda of enjoyed. Now being in stage 2 it probably behooves me to reconcider and start taking more cruises. It seems that there's a great savings on doing that (accomodations, food, drink and locomotion). Obrigado, pela informação. Até a próxima... 👍🙏❤️🥂
Tony cruises 🚢 are a wonderful way to see lots of places in a short time and only unpack your bag once LOL 😂 Obrigado por assistir, agradecemos seu apoio Felicidades 🍷🌺🍺🚢
Hi Tina and Norm, Thanks for another enjoyable, useful video. I thought you should know that (I am pretty sure) the Go Go-Slow Go-No Go concept and phrase was first popularized by Michael K Stein in his book “Prosperous Retirement.” I’m not sure if he actually coined the phrase but it’s use in this context dates back to this book which I think was published in the late 1990s. Credit where credit is due and it’s such a great concept I thought you’d like to know. Cheers!
Thank you for posting these videos. Just wondering about the trips you mentioned early in this video that came from emails with the all inclusive. The one to Edinburgh in Scotland for example. Where would you subscribe or how would you find out about those trips? I would be very interested. I’m not yet retired but will soon and would like to do a few small trips before hand. Portugal is on my list of places to potentially retire or spend six months a year. Im also living in Canada.
Interesting analogy. I guess it would be helpful for parents ( subscribers if you will) would share your channel with their Raring to Go stage children so they can prepare accordingly. Husband and I also have identified three fases, Health Wealth and Possibility. Great informal and informative video. Enjoy your weekend. 💖 🌹 💃 🍷 🇳🇿 🙋♀️ 🇳🇱
That’s an interesting thought Anita , although kinda of the age group of 40-50 thinks they are all going to live forever and not get old LOL 😂😂hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend Cheers 🇳🇱 🍷🇨🇦🌺🍺🤗
Hi Debbie sounds like your Dad was a great guy and enjoyed travel with lots of memories thanks for sharing , have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌍🌺🍺
What a terrific story . Happy your dad was able to do so much. ❤️
Keeps your mind sharp too
@@1232bluejays Absolutely!
@Debbie D, thanks so much for sharing your story! IT meant a lot to listen and image and read about it. Your father continues to live on by having you share his story which in turn inspires us, the reader! What a gift 🎁 to share your story Debbie. Thank you so much. 💛🇨🇦
i see you as my favourite television show -- as like my shows when I was young - wait for it every week to come ---You live the life I am looking for
Thanks so much we are glad you like our videos we appreciate your support Cheers ☕️🇨🇦🙂
It’s infectious the way you two share the love and respect you have for each other
Thanks Holly not only married we are best friends too which is wonderful Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Great to see your happy faces again. Traveling by RV in Baja, Mexico and jùst spent the last 4 nights at AirBnB in Cabo San Lucas! Great to be alive!
Hi Jim, Must be great getting around in warm weather, have a cerveza for us! 🍺🍻🇨🇦🇲🇽enjoy your trip!
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Thank you for your reply and recommendation, I will try it this summer. Live your video!
Yesss. The Camino de Santiago is a must! Life changing.
Thanks Vikki, Your Mum is a true inspiration and something we aspire to in the same way you do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts we do appreciate it.
You truly are enjoying LIFE! Many more happy, healthy years and adventures to come.
Thanks so much Barbara we appreciate your support have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
I retire in May and have been watching you guys for probably a least a year and have found your information really informative.
Thank you both of you keep up the good work!
Thanks Chris we appreciate your support and we wish you all the best for your retirement in May 🥳Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Yes we realize that the GoGo years are different for everyone, we hope you can retire at 55 and have some fun we wish you all the best Cheers 🍷🌻🍺
So it’s totally worth it 💕
That is awesome! sounds a great deal Cheers 🍷🌻🍺
Just like to add that the phases are very flexible. Go-go might be longer for some, shorter for others. For my wife and I, go-go is up to about age 75 or so. The longer one can put off slow-go and no-go the better and the primary reason for slowing down (for most) is ill health.
That’s true Ronnie ill health is probably the biggest reason that folk stop travelling . Hope you having a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Have a nice Sunday.
parallel wealth uses these terms for retirement planning. Thanks for putting context around them!
Our pleasure! there is a lot more talk everywhere Rob about these three stages it’s fun being in the GoGo LoL 😂 Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
A lot of travel is my dream too guess often depends on your health often as we age health goes down hill great to hear your ideas
*fully viewed👀💯A big thumbs up👍Au*
Thanks for sharing a great comment David have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
I enjoyed you both having the word WE more than I. this speaks of togetherness ,love about you both!
Thanks Roger guess we always have and will in the future do things together ( other than Tina swimming and Norm going to the Car wash LOL 😂) Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Hubby loves baseball. We have been to San Diego, San Francisco, Boston, and Baltimore baseball stadiums. Of course, Yankees and Mets, being NYers.

Possibly having a plan does help 🍺
Oh those smiling faces 💕….. you guys not only share great information, but also bring so much positivity. Thank you!
Thanks so much, your comment is so welcomed. Have a wonderful weekend 💕🙏
Thoroughly enjoy listening and watching your channel, Tina and Norm. Thank you for sharing. Stay well, happy and enthusiastic always.🤗
Our pleasure! glad you enjoy them Jill we hope you are having a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
If you love seafood, I recommend New Orleans, but avoid going between May and September. Too hot once it is warm.

I love Edinburgh! ❤️🏴 Would love to get to Iceland one of these days. Of course because of the puffins! 🐧
Both Iceland 🇮🇸 and Edinburgh 🏴 just awesome Cheers 🍷🌻🍺
Ahhh! The challenges of retirement eh!😉 Like
"NOT!" LOL😀 Stay safe...feels like covid is leaving us so we can get our lives back☘️🙄
Enjoyed your 3 stages.

@@jimwulstan8592 So true thanks for sharing 🌺🙂
👍👍✌️ it’s nice that you can afford to do all that travelling. We can see it makes you very happy.
It was nice traveling, but we haven’t done anything international for a longtime.
I love watching your show. Retirement is still a little ways off for me but it helps to get a little insight to get me prepared. Thank you for sharing!
Great to hear! we think a little preparation and planning is the key to a great retirement Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Hi Tina & Norm all excellent advice as normal keep the good work up .

Thank you! Will do! have a great weekend Christopher Cheers 🍷🍺🌺
Really happy I found you guys ! Excellent information, just wish I had this about 20 years ago. Enjoy and keep sharing. Thanks.
Thanks so much we appreciate your comment.
I belong to Guelph Newcomers group and several of the ladies between 70-80 are still go go they do not believe in slow go. I hope I am like them.
That’s wonderful Maureen have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Such a good advice. I’m retiring at 50. 50-70 should me my go 😅that’s next year.
Yes your go go years are going to be long! Enjoy them and thanks for watching our video. 💕🌺🙏
We hope you get to go on your Viking river cruise, it’s a great way to travel 💕
I have friends that love the European Viking River cruises. I'm considering them for other parts of the world, at some point.
I agree completely, retire ASAP so you can go go go. We are 63 and 76, and wish we retired earlier, so we can travel before the pandemic.
We hear you we are so glad we retired at 58 and 60 as we don’t know what the future holds Cheers 🍷🌻🍺
In my teens and twenties I was inspired by Paul Theroux “The Great Railway Bazaar”, now I find it absolutely fascinating to revisit many of those
same places to see how things have changed. “The World is your lobster”
It’s a financial concept and totally dependent on health, glad to hear you are still at the go go stage, we plan to as well, all things considered.
@@Duke_of_Prunes Thanks for sharing have a lovely week 🌺

Great video as always. You two are so charming. We are only a few years away from retirement. We are watching a few people and we totally agree, there are 3 stages. Go Go, Slow Go and No Go. We credit Parallel Wealth Channel, no affiliation. Spending more in the beginning, then slowing down, and then spending should be less. Thanks again. Enjoying your videos and and advice very much!
Our pleasure! we wish you both a happy retirement Vince and Theresa those couple of years will go fast 💨 have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Brilliant advice. I’ve recently subscribed to your channel and am loving it! I’m retiring in April at 59 so am off to the Go Go years!

Thanks so much Brian🥂💕
Makes good sense! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the visit Brian enjoy your weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
I love you guys! Such a wonderful balanced commentary on the retirement life. I truly enjoy watching every episode. 👍👍👍
Thanks so much!
You are so welcome! hope you have a nice weekend Carolyn Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Thanks for watching Meg glad you enjoyed it we hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺

Sounds like you 2 got this.

I've seen so many couples plan their retirement only to be devastated by seeing it all fall apart when one of them falls ill. My parents were only one year in when dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 66. You can't really plan that far ahead in retirement.

We are following the same people! Cheers!
Thanks Pamela for a very interesting comment, hope you are having a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🇨🇦🍺
That’s awesome 🌺

We wish you a great retirement but consider visiting Canada we are friendly and not that dissimilar to America.
I would be very interested in how and what do you pack for a month away in Portugal. What size are the suitcases and how do you pack them.
We’re in the GoGo stage as well! 🤗😊
Thats awesome guys all enjoying this stage together stay safe and well Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🍺🇨🇦🌺
My husband and I are in the “slow go” time of life. Fortunately, we haven’t slowed down as yet. Recently we enjoyed a 17 day transatlantic cruise. Cruising is our preferred travel experience for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

Did you see any otters on your Alaskan cruise? That is what I would hope to see, of course!💖🦦
Don’t think so LOL 😂Whales and Dolphins 🐬 and birds 🦅 Cheers 🍷🌻🍺
Great tips, a cruise sounds great.
Is it possible to go over cruising details like cost, documents needed, what costs extra and what rooms/level do you recommend, what you can and can not take?...I think it would be very helpful for first timers.
Please discard my comment if you already shared this type of video....I just don't recall watching it.
Thank you both!!
Great suggestion Grace we will think of doing that as more people seem very interested in cruising 🚢hope you are well Cheers 🍷🇵🇹🍺🇨🇦🌺

@@ThisIsOurRetirement Today we made it official that our last rat race days and our Go Go years begin the last day of March 2022. Just can't wait. Thanks for all the shared advice.
Fantastic!
This! bravo! this is amazing ,see yyou later!😲
Thank you! Cheers! 🍷🌺🍺
I only took a 3 days trip from Cape Canaveral to Bahamas on a Disney ship
I kinda of enjoyed. Now being in stage 2 it probably behooves me to reconcider and start taking more cruises. It seems that there's a great savings on doing that (accomodations, food, drink and locomotion). Obrigado, pela informação. Até a próxima... 👍🙏❤️🥂
Tony cruises 🚢 are a wonderful way to see lots of places in a short time and only unpack your bag once LOL 😂
Obrigado por assistir, agradecemos seu apoio Felicidades 🍷🌺🍺🚢
Hi Tina and Norm,
Thanks for another enjoyable, useful video.
Cheers!
Thanks for the sharing that Randal we know it’s been around for a while we just love the concept Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
It was a company called Trafalgar in the UK , also Azores Getaways and Portugal getaways Michelle we have had some wonderful trips good luck 🍷🌺🍺
