I was just thinking about this today! Why sometimes I get bored of my project after 15 minutes and some other times I cannot stop working on it and the hours pass by
@@NavieD I do purge some projects which I failed to finish like projects where melody was bad and I kinda have a habit of not starting a new project until I finish the previous one. Leaving them unfinished will only increase the workload haha
I have two folders. I have "gud" and "need werk" The most recent beat always goes in gud. Then every time I make a new beat, everything gets thrown in need werk and the one new beat is all that sounds gud lol
Ok dude I never thought about making 1/2 of your patterns interesting. THATS MIND BLOWING. Here's another tip I wanna share. Make just (pattern 1) in FL layer as many instruments and ideas as you want. Then when done, drag the pattern to song mode. THEN SPLIT BY CHANNEL. Now you can arrange your layers and it makes it even sicker. Also try using edison to record automation, dials, knobs etc. Navie, keep up the amazing work. SUBSCRIBED.
Definitely a 10 my friend! We need a fedora in our lives. Giving these techniques a try when I get home. Can't believe I've never thought about making changes in the loop itself. I always save that for the arrangement but then find that things don't mesh as well as I'd like sometimes when removing or adding sounds to keep it fresh.
Great Video as usual. I love the call and response format. Especially for boom bap with a vocal chop as the response. Premier is the GOAT when it comes to that imo. Boom by Royce as the perfect example.
Unlike most FL Studio videos on UA-cam, this is actually very helpful ... Navie D, thanks for doing this (making UA-cam videos to help "us" out) You're a legend.. once I complete something I'm proud of I'll give you a shoutout in the track.
I do have a lot of unfinished beats, I have to learn to change things up. And yes I'm guilty of being loop oriented but I tend to go for loops that have that magic which makes it a pleasure to listen to. Making 8 bar loops is usually the way to go to leave ample room for minor change ups within the loop.
These are great tips for making entire beats. I have so many beats saved that could be finished but I never got around to finishing them. I’m gonna incorporate these ideas into my beats. Thank you Navie💯👍🏼
For me personally, the MPC One really helped my workflow and ability to turn one sound or idea into a full 3 minute song, but I still use FL Studio for mixing and mastering
@@NavieD Yeah pretty much. 1. Think of a melody go to my laptop and throw it down 2. Add layers, chords, counter melodies. 3. Get bored start another beat (another random melody) Yeah
One my biggest challenge is finishing a beat. Have lots of unfinished beats cos I never feel too good about them no more. Learnt some cool stuff from here that I can apply not only to my new beats but those old beats 💯❤️🔥🔥
That's awesome. In theory, those are such small ideas, but in practice, they turn out to change a lot for the better! Another challenge I have is that I like working with external gear or completely DAW-less, and once you turned off everything, the other day it is quite an annoying process to load patch 36 on synth xy, and sequence 61 on drum machine yz etc... And maybe you even forgot the number of the patch or you were too lazy to use a proper naming convention back then. Or you even changed once perfectly set up cable connections etc... It seems so much easier to just go full DAW, but then you wouldn't use your other hardware anymore... Well, anyways, given those challenges, it might be even more important to have an inspiring beat/song to work on. So that you know it'll be worth setting everything up again instead of starting out new...
Nice percussion chords :P I liked this video a lot! I'm trying to be more "spaceous" with my instruments, and was thinking about those things myself. It's really nice to see those things as techniques, though. I'll definitely try to apply all these ideas from now on.
Ngl I be struggling with some loops and if i don't like it, i just give up on it. but i never thought of doing this so appreciate the help & 10 fo sho!

The initial loop that you build is key!
I thought I was the only one tho
This has always been my biggest problem, finishings. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
@@eldrickemc4602 Seriously! Makes Me Feel Behind lmao
But then people use the boring ones you actually finish, and don't use the one you spent hours on 🤣
I start a beat but I am not huge fan of finishing in one sitting , I come back after getting inspiration but I never leave them unfinished 💯
Its either finished or deleted by the end of the month.
Interesting, you do a purge at the end of every month?
I like that you make sure not to leave them unfinished!
