One thing i find funny about chickens is you can have 1 box per hen, and theyll still line up to use the same one. No joke, i got 12 boxes, and 24 hens. They use 3 of them. Ive seen them gather around a singular one waiting for the hen in there to finish
It probably isn't a problem for you, but if you want to encourage them to use the other laying areas, add golf balls or ceramic eggs to the others. Then if your hen gets broody and you want chick's you won't have as many issues. Just a tip!
@ReformedAcres yes they will roost on the 2x4. But it is natural for them to roost on limbs. Funny how you young people think you know everything about chickens. I'm 57 and have had chickens since I was 10. And I learn from them everyday.
My chicken coop is a hoop house like this but its stationary, we don't move it..they have a run that they stay in during the day thats what we move around the yard so they have new grass.
Often on Y shaped branches. Most people don't find that chicken feet have rounding or issues with round aviary style roosts - but it is a possibility and if the chicken is more comfortable, go with the 2x4's. Their legs are not like a budgies, they hinge differently.
I know. I’m totally new to this. “So Wait, 4 to 5 boxes per chicken. Man, how many eggs can one chicken actually lay??!?!!? Wait maybe she said forty five.”
Do you have a build tutorial?? I need to build a tractor and im such a novice. I built a coop for my young chicks when I first got them. It is too small now. So I think I want to do a tractor. I've been letting them free range for the winter bc my gardens out. But this summer I can't.
I live in south carolina where the temperature can be freezing cold during the winter and burning hot during the summertime. Any ideas on what kind of coop I should build. Really looking forwards to raising chickens in the near future.
@@techontroltreasures6154 Good point. I wonder if you could drive some metal rods down deep enough and close enough to stop them. I'm also not clear what that metal pedal does as far as cleaning.
Do you have to worry about predators where you are? Or do you have a fix for that, just not in this video. I haven't built my coop/run yet. This is really cute and simple.
@@ReformedAcres thanks how much would you think it would cost to build the whole hoop coop without the nesting buckets I have Thousands of 5-gallon buckets lol
@@ReformedAcres can you make a video on that? I can't envision how to make a tractor where it can't be dug under without having to dig every day when I move it. We have a full coop and run but have to build a new one when we move in a couple weeks

Hahah yes! This is SO TRUE!
Yep!!

yes! I had 4 boxes for 5 hens and they literally always shared the same nest.
For every 4 chickens you need 1
Awesome build! May I ask where you got the wheels from the chicken tractor?
Nice work. I like the design and the easy eggcess.
Haha thanks!
😂😂😂
Do you add any type of wind/cold protection in winter?
We don't because we live in the south!
Thats a great cop, where do you buy the lifting wheels
We get them from ChickLifts!
Thank you
Is this where you put them up at night? I’m considering doing the same hoop coop and I want it to be movable but I worry about predators.
Yes this is their coop all the time! We have build plans for it if it's helpful to you :)
I am looking to build one. Is there a way to send over the building plans here, or would we have to go off UA-cam? Thanks!
@@ReformedAcrescan I please get the build plans
Can I get build plans?
@@ReformedAcres I would like the plans can you post the link please
Thank you thank you! I have been noodling those nesting boxes. A bucket. So simple.
They have held up for years too!
I love this!
So much info packed into one short video!! Thank you x
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Yes I agree
2 things. They wil roost on the nest and they don't mind curling their toes.
They roost on the bars :)

Just curious….how do birds sleep/perch in trees in the wild? I use to have chooks and they use to sleep up in my trees before we purchased a coupe🎉

Wait 4-5 nesting boxes per chicken or a nesting box per 4-5 chickens
I misspoke in the video! Nesting box per 4-5 chickens LOL
@@ReformedAcres😂
Haha I was like, those are some freaking finicky chickens you’ve got
I know. I’m totally new to this. “So Wait, 4 to 5 boxes per chicken. Man, how many eggs can one chicken actually lay??!?!!? Wait maybe she said forty five.”
@@ReformedAcres we knew that - thanks for the video!
Hi.its beautiful.. please share how to make the plans(how to make it) thanks
You can find the plans at bit.ly/chickentractorbuild :)
The egg collection idea is super good
So how do chickens do in the winter
What did you use for the roof to keep the elements out? The white material?
Can you tell me where you got your green wheels to move the coop?
Bit.ly/chickentractorwheels (commissionable link) ☺️
this looks amazing
Great work:)
Thanks a lot!

Can you tell me all of the supplies that you used for this chicken coop? It would be perfect for the area we have.

We use these tractors all year! From in the 20s to 100 degrees F ☺️
Looks good!
Thank you!
I do my bucket boxes the other direction through the wall so I can pop off the lid and grab eggs from the outside
Looks like she lowers a panel from outside.
That's a neat idea too!
A fox would dig under that and there would be no more chickens after.
@@techontroltreasures6154 Good point. I wonder if you could drive some metal rods down deep enough and close enough to stop them. I'm also not clear what that metal pedal does as far as cleaning.
We have had it for 3 years and never lost a chicken to a predator while inside the tractor :)
What wheels did you use where did you aquire then? How much weight can they handle?
We use the ChickLifts wide track wheels and they are VERY sturdy!
Where didv you get those wheels?
They are from Chick Lifts!
Love the nesting boxes!
Thank you!
This is a good idea I love ❤️ your wonderful work keep it up 👍
Thanks!
What material is the roof made of? Does it help during rain?
It's a tarp and yep it keeps them dry!
Nice! Where did you find those casters that raise and lower??
We get ours from here!

Nice build. Thank your for sharing! I have subscribed to follow your journey.
Thank you so much!
Hello??? 4-5 nesting boxes per hen?!? Are you sure you should be giving advice here?
It was a misspeak :) 4-5 chickens per box is correct 👌🏻
Nice X 100!!!!
Can I have your build plans? I would love to build this… it’s a great design!!

@@ReformedAcres thx!
The tail hole in the nesting buckets 🥹
Haha and it's great for grabbing eggs too!
I think you mean people say 1 nesting box per 4-5 chickens. I was so lost the first time I listened lol
Haha yes! I misspoke!
Do you have plans for this?
We do! Go to bit.ly/chickentractorbuild :)
I have one chicken laying eggs and i have 15 nesting boxes. She lays her eggs in a nest she made in the middle of the floor
Hahaha that's how they are!
What about the winter?
We have very mild winters :)
they are a 'fowl' ,is this something tthe chickens told you?😂😂😂
I'm guessing winters are "60 degrees Fahrenheit" where you live.
We live in the south but we see 20 degree temps :)
nice sharing
Thank you!
Nice!
Thanks!
How tall is this at its peak?
About 6 feet :)
Drats I just put up a bunch of branches!....😂
Hey if it works for you!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You only need one box per 3 chickens
What about the predators that dig under?
We have never lost a chicken inside the tractor in over 3 years!
Location, location, location and good wire mesh.
Yep, all that is important!
Boa ideia
Thank you!
The predators will dig under if I did a chicken tractor, we have never found a chicken tractor to prevent digging
You could use a hardware cloth skirting around the base or even a string of electric!

I totally misspoke! 4-5 hens per nesting box 😂
4-5 nesting boxes per chicken that makes no sense
Yes, I misspoke and it's 4-5 chickens per box :)
Hi
First is 1098…
4-5 boxes per chicken? 😂😂😂
30 boxes for 6 birds
Sorry lady your advice is 💩
I misspoke and have addressed it a couple times :) its 4-5 chickens per box!
