Minnie is not the sweet little lady that she comes across as. Many times she is spiteful and very catty. Ena makes out to be the mean one, but she's actually got a very kind heart.
I like that about Minnie, she had an edge to her. But Margot Bryant who played Minnie was notorious for her frequent use of obscenities and would of given Ena Sharples a run for her money.
I love Rita's singing. I play a Christmas song she sang every year. It's nice to see Phyllis before she became Phyllis, lol. Hilda's singing cracks me up but I love it.
Rita's style of cabaret singing was spot on at that time, not Grade A but okay for outside of London. She'd have never got through the door at, say, Ronnie Scotts. I doubt she'd even get a call back from Britain's Got Talent.
Woah was Mr. Fairclough slimming?! Is he getting skinnier or is it just his long hair making him look thin? I don't think the slim look suits him, his face looks too saggy. Was that him in the corner shop? When he was standing at the shop counter, I seriously thought they added a new character during the few episodes I missed due to there not being available. Thanks again AuntieCorrie for uploading the episodes you can find!
My father was a teacher. When he had essays to mark and reports to make, which were more often than people think, we were all kept out of the living room until they were done, so he could concentrate. I don't know about now, but they didn't get paid extra and the money wasn't that good either. Teachers are more likely to get strokes, because of the stressful work they do.
No, he didn't. It was written by Eric Spear who was paid, I believe, £6.00 for it. The piano player is Derek Hilton, was who musical director at Granada.
@@muk8804 yes. She was the grandmother of a big family. Mum was played by Bernie Nolan. Little lad got bullied by two nasty girls, one of whom was called Imelda. Funny what you remember. 🥰
On a packed bus watching Hilda singing had me laughing out loud with tears rolling down my face honestly to god that broke me laughing, Hilda Ogden by far the best actress coronation street ever produced to this day jean Alexander brought Hilda to life and you believed in her totally that takes talent and Jean had bucket loads of talent x they sure don’t make it like this anymore which is why I haven’t watched it since the beginning of the 90s it just got rubbish and lost its personality x
Hilda singing in front of Rita. Was in stitches!!
Ohhhh I love it when Hilda sings
Pity Benny Lewis didn’t! 😂😂
Hilda was a total rock star.
First appearance of Meg Johnson ( who went on to play Eunice Gee-and was also Pearl Ladderbanks in Emmerdale)).
Oh there is Phyllis cleaning in the club and I do like Hilda singing 😉
Hilda's singing was ace .
I liked Phyllis
PHYLLIS PEARSE WITH HER DEEP GRAVELY VOICE OOOH! PERCY SUGDEN! WHAT A COMICAL PAIR THEY WERE WHEN THEY GOT TOGETHER

she just sticking up for her salfe
@@tonypike763 What was ‘sticking up for herself’ by telling Albert how useless he’d be at the club?
I like that about Minnie, she had an edge to her. But Margot Bryant who played Minnie was notorious for her frequent use of obscenities and would of given Ena Sharples a run for her money.
She had a love child with Albert when hevwas gassed at the Somme....He thought he wasmaking love to Ena....
We all have layers 🙂
Another fabulous episode and quite sophisticated - love the club and Rita singing .
"sophisticated" scrubbers...LOL
AYE RITA,S GOT A GOOD SINGING VOICE
LEN FAIRCLOUGH GIVING UNDER 12 SCHOOL GIRLS SWIMMING LESSONS DIRTY OLD PERVERT!!!
Oh Ken, at least have the decency and tell her that your not interested. Don’t hurt the ladies feeling any longer
@Snarzell 1975 he was so boring lol but nice hair.
I prefer Hilda to miserable Rita any day
Ken treated Norma like crap. He should've just told he he wasn't interested.
What do you expect - he was in love with his pontificating self - he an Albert made a perfect pair of self promoting clowns 🤨🤨🤨
Love it - low life stoushing 😂😂😂😂😂
I love Rita's singing. I play a Christmas song she sang every year. It's nice to see Phyllis before she became Phyllis, lol. Hilda's singing cracks me up but I love it.
Ty so much for uploading these episodes great fan from nz here 💓
I find Maggie clegg very nosy
Love you hilda ogden from micheál
Benny Lewis is too nice to be a night club owner!
An early appearance of Phyllis PIerce?
KarenBrum Brum /(
Diana Davies was beautiful
Where did Benny get his dreadful cloths from?
Fairclough looks like he's been on a diet.
Wonderful singing from Rita and such a beautiful woman.
She was ordinary at best

I agree, very lacklustre voice and many times, flat.
@Teena Brunk ... Whatever.
The best singer in Corrie is Ena Sharples.
Betty Driver had good vocal range too.
I love her duet with Annie Walker
Preferred Hildas Singing to Rita's
🤣 wouldn't mind hearing Dirty Dicks.

Bessie Proctor = Phyllis Pearce
I thought it WAS Phyllis at first!

"the sup up" from Bet Lynch is how the character is going to be played
That would be one night club to avoid. It’s like 30 years out of date. Looks like it came out of the 1940’s instead of 1972.
Amapola!
i believe the piano player { Derek Hilton } wrote the Corry theme song .

Sounds like Peter Skellern playing in the background at the bar opening?
Who runs the Capricorn Club? Seems Benny does-but I thought Alec Gilroy was Rita’s boss ( or is he just in charge of cabaret)?
Prefer Amapola to Hey big spender
Len looks quite lean in this episode
Is that the future Eunice Gee at 23:38?
Phynesse A correct! Meg Johnson credited as "tipsy woman"!!
And a grandma in
Brookside . Can't remember which family now . Late 90s.
@@muk8804 yes. She was the grandmother of a big family. Mum was played by Bernie Nolan. Little lad got bullied by two nasty girls, one of whom was called Imelda. Funny what you remember. 🥰
....and what was she doing with Stephen Fry at the Capricorn, LOL?

16:44 daft as a brush
25:26 Len hightails it out of there! 😂
Hilda jagger !
What a weird world we live in where this sort of thing matters.
Rita wasn’t singing in the microphone! 😂🤣
Whose got the twins?
Oh aye it's always lovely to see Rita standing there like a statue, singing some boring old song.
Oh Phyllis! The lovely Phyllis.
Coronation Street somehow never noticed or played pop or rock music in the 70’s. Odd.
Who said she could sing
Buggernation street🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😜👏👌
Phylis Pearce makes an appearance
Back when corry haf story lines that where credable
Love Rita getting into a row with the drunk heifer
6>39 Len has lost a lot of weight here.
Rita rocks
I’m not a fan of poor old Rieta s vocal talent, just my taste
Same here if im being honest
I got to agree she try's to sing to posh and to slow with every song better give Hilda the spot LOL
If...my....friends .. could...see....me...NOW!😖🤢🤮
I like older Rita better than this younger Rita. Young Rita was a bit full of herself.
Her droning gives me a f'n nosebleed 🙉
14:26 End Of Part One ❤
At 25>00 Is she the future Mrs. Gee_!!!
Rita or Barbara she's no singer lol
Rita looks how lulu looked back in the day.
Phyllis Pearce's twin sister lol.
Ugh Rita's singing
And that collar would poke your eye out.
Rita COULD NOT sing
