Duel of the Fates is arguably one of the best themes in cinema. It's timeless. It's outstanding. I can't believe it's 20 years old. It feels like it's been around for a millennia 🔥🔥 it's vibe is supernatural!
Probably the best mockup of Duel of the Fates on YT. Great job! Oceania really works on this track, it's like if the whole library had been done with this piece in mind, which wouldn't surprise me. Performance Samples really captured the tone.
Its funny, I remember buying the soundtrack to TPM before I'd even seen the film (I live in the UK and this was still back in the stone age when a US film release would be a couple of moths before it got to our shores) and being totally shocked by this track. It just seemed so "un-Star Wars." It wasn't like anything from the previous films and because of that, I initially didn't like it. A few listens later and it was my favourite track. Now its one of the saga's most recognised - probably right alongside the main theme and the Imperial March (and my personal favourite, the Force Theme). You gotta love John Williams.

Probably the best epic sound track in all of Star Wars along with the Temple March and Darth Vader theme. This sound track and light saber duel with Maul in Phantom Menace was the high light of that entire movie. One of my fav scenes even if you hate prequels.

im 6 years later and love this!!! always loved duel of the fates, especially the final battle. when growing up this movie was in theaters as a preteen. I went to see this movie several times just to see this final battle lol

I think the only thing missing from one of my favorite tracks, the Kotor theme, is a chorus. Wish I could do what you did and mix in one over the original and the somber one from SWTOR. Have a sort of transition from sad (SWTOR) to heroic (KOTOR) to epic. (Chior Mix)

Literally blown away - also trying to wrap my head around the composition here: at around 2:48 in, the repeat of the main melodic motif seems to come back while the choirs and long chordal sections are sounding, Im curious what instrumentation is used at this point, it looks to be a french horn by the track, but I'm unsure. It also looks like there are two 'legato' what is the purpose of the doubling up? Does it just make the pan spread of the horns wider? These choirs sound absolutely amazing for a digital version by the way, really convincing which is probably one of the toughest parts to get sounding right, can you speak at all to the tweak ability of those libraries in particular?
Hello my friend! Thank you very much for your encouraging comments, I really appreciate it! Yes, I doubled up the french horns so that they can have a fuller sound. Each patch has a sample of two french horns, so doubling them will give me the sound of four french horns and I thought it worked better for this composition. As for the choirs (Oceania by Performance Samples), they are surely amazing, but the tweakability of them are fairly limited. They are only for "epic" sounding choirs like this one, and cannot be used for anything softer. Hope this helps! Thanks again! Cheers

The problem that I ran in to though, was that the staccato was not as tight and epic as Oceania, which was a huge disappointment. EW really could have done better in their scripting but it is what it is! Cheers
Hi Kenny, do you mean the EWHC word building patch cannot handle the staccato vocals at 1:44? Have you tried pushing the mod wheel (CC1) and velocity to the max (127) for those staccato notes to make it louder and tighter?

Hi Kenny, do you mean the EWHC word building patch cannot handle the staccato vocals at 1:44? Have you tried pushing the mod wheel (CC1) and velocity to the max (127) for those staccato notes to make it louder and tighter?
Yup! Tried it all! Just doesn't come close to the tightness of the Oceania staccatos

A long long time! I believe around 5-10 hours a week for several months, so probably around ballpark of 80-120 hours!
