Yeah this album was great! I loved it's sound, so glad I finally checked it out. And I didn't realize Lay Lady Lay was a cover when I filmed the video, that makes a lot of sense though.
"The Fall" is by far my favourite track by Ministry across all their albums. I've no idea what it's supposed to be about but it sounds like the soundtrack to the end of the world, ugly and beautiful at the same time :)
Molly have you listened to Skinny Puppy? They were one of the industrial pioneers in the 80s. SP stand apart and above the genre for me as seminal electronic artists of their generation and very ahead of their time. "Bites" and "Too Dark Park" in particular are awesome albums.
You might want to check out Godflesh, if you're into learning history of related genres. Extremely influential band. Many oldschool nerds claim the Streetcleaner is best, but I never really got along with it. But anyway, it would definitely be an educational journey. Just remember, if they remind you of someone, it means that someone listened to Godflesh.
Yep, industrial sludge metal. Paul Barker (bass) really shines on this record. And yes, that's a harmonica. Al Jourgensen plays it on occasion. Very underrated album, IMO.
Many may not agree but this is by far my fav Ministry album and been a fan of theirs since the mid 80s. I think it was a refreshing album to follow Psalm. Organic but not. Cool stop and go choppy time signatures yet hypnotic. Odd rhythmic industrial sludge. Each song has such contrasting vibes. I always thought this album would be the deranged offspring if the Melvins and Godflesh got together. Highly underrated brutal album. Many would say The Land of Rape and Honey and The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste…I just find those albums so predictable for Ministry to do. Good albums but Filth Pig challenged the fanbase. Beautiful grit.
As a 14 year old dude whenever i wear my ministry shirt to the store ill always get a compliment or storys about how that person met al. Or like how they opened for ministry in 1989. And im also taught how influential ministry is. And apparently their quite underground for our time.
I have to note, you are taking your journey through the sounds of Ministry in a similar progression I did decades ago. I entered high school to ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ and exited with Filth Pig, They were my 1st and 2nd albums of the band I listened to. I hope you continue with and enjoy your journey through the sounds of Ministry and am curious where you will go next. Aloha & Mahalo.
We’ll, ya gotta do The Mind is a Terrible Thing To Taste, Land of Rape and Honey, and I would love your take on their debut album With Symphony-which is SO DIFFERENT from everything that came after and is infamously hated by the band.
Not sure if you ever checked it out, but the very first Ministry album “With Sympathy” is a straight up new wave synth pop album, not metal whatsoever, and it is unironically great lol I wouldn’t say it deserves an episode, but something worth checking out in free time.
I haven't heard With Sympathy, I'll definitely have to give it a listen. I can't imagine Ministry doing new wave synth pop, that'll sure be interesting.
"The Fall" is one of this songs that has ALWAYS stood out to me. Probably my favorite Ministry track. (FYI...still anxiously waiting for you to knock out the final 2 Hum albums...)
I wish you'd get more into the very root of industrial albums and see if you could react to the Skinny Puppy album called "Bites" released in 1985. It has a lot of interesting things going for it. I would recommend the original 1985 track lineup as this album had several releases and every time they added tracks to it which became quite a monstrous 70+ minute album instead of the original Vinyl LP. Good luck if you attempt to react to Skinny Puppy and tank you for your reacts. Latest one I checked was for Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas. Great album!!!!!
So stoked you are doing more Ministry! This album was divisive upon its release but a total favourite of mine. Ministry can't be pegged on one album, they are all a bit different. Their debut was total 80s synthpop, then they added thrashy guitars with industrial, then Filth Pig and Dark Side Of The Spoon are more doomy sludge. Paul Barker was the bassist at the time and his sound was immense. You must hear Godflesh 'Streetcleaner' (one of the greatest industrial metal albums of all time), The Young Gods 'TV Sky' album, and Prong 'Prove You Wrong' you would dig for sure.
Definitely one of my favorite albums from Ministry. I dig the sludgyness of this album. Reload, the title track, Lava, and Gameshow are some of my favorites on the album.
Wait until you hear their first album I would actually say it's my favorite it has pretty hate machine elements to it you can tell Trent was a fan of ministry
@@grymkaft He’s definitely thinking of Twitch and not With Sympathy lol My two favorite Ministry albums though! If you want industrial, go Twitch(All Day Remix is the goat), if you want pop, go With Sympathy. Such a fascinating genre jump the band made, and I’m glad that Al has recently made peace with Sympathy after disowning it for all those years.
Absolutely! I remember how disappointed people were when it came out. However, I was entranced...confused due to the shift in their sound, but maaaan does this album stick with you.
"The Land of Rape and Honey" and "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste" are by far their greatest albums. Also, if you are interested in checking out the crazy evolution "Ministry" went through on their way, listen to "With Sympathy" and then "Twitch", their first two albums. The first one is synth-pop (really good) and the second where they start the switch to Industrial., but it's classic industrial and not industrial-metal. 🙂
Dead Guy is my favorite song off of this album, so it was cool to hear you call that one out! I don't hear that from many others. Anyway, honestly, I pretty much loathed this album after hearing their previous albums, but most of the songs grew on me over time. It was the slow, sludgy nature that threw me off since so many of the other albums were faster. I would recommend The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste album next, then The Land of Rape and Honey. They are both classics.
Yeah Filth Pig definitely embraces a different sound compared to Psalm 69. I do enjoy both albums but that slowed down heaviness on this one I am such a fan of. I'm definitely going to check out more albums from them and see what they're going to do across their discography.

A few somewhat left field recommendations, Lard - Pure Chewing Satisfaction, a collab between the main Ministry guys and Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys. I also think you'd really like Fudge Tunnel - Hate Songs in E Minor, not really industrial but something I think you'd really enjoy.

Awesome! I had graduated High School unsure what to do with my life ( working a shyster job) listening to this album when it came out. Oh the memories. The heaviness of Dead Guy is one track I turn to when doing shores
For some reason Lava makes me think of Magnetism by Icicle - ie. dark dnb with harmonica and similar 'pressing' groove, probably deeper though in that the sub bass just hits.
I'll check that track out! Edit: I can definitely hear a similarity, Magnetism is a bit speedier and more futuristic sounding in a way, almost more of a reverb going on. Both songs have absolutely killer bass lines.
Molly! To a Pretty Hate Machine fan, I'd highly recommend "Twitch". The single album from 1986 anticipates basically all good industrial music to follow and is a very clear inspiration for Trent Reznor's early work. It's basically the height of the classical period of the pure industrial genre.

I would recommend the rest of Mr. Bungle’s discography. Which is disco volante (1995), California (1999) and the raging wrath of the Easter bunny (2020). They are all so different and special and I would love to see your reaction to them!
Hey Molly, love ya work, as always. I got a band to put on your radar if they aren't already.. One Minute Silence. They're Intense and 'bouncy'. I reckon you might like it.
Their first album has his normal voice.... Kind of. I'm talking about his British accent😅. Standouts from that era are the popular Everyday Is Halloween, and my favorite, He's Angry.

1 half of this album is great. unfortunately, i feel you could take Filth Pig, Dark Side, and Ani, take the good stuff on them, and condense it into 1 album. Was a tough run until Houses came back with avengence. But Reload, Filth Pig, Lava, The Fall, and Lay Lady Lay are so good. There was a slower track called Paisley that never made the cut, which is a huge miscalculation on the band's part. Wasn't gonna save the album, but it's omission is weird.
Filth Pig (the title track) is probably my favorite Ministry song from the two albums of theirs I've heard so far. I'd say maybe Psalm 69 is a "better" album from start to finish but the sound they embraced on this one, that heavy sludginess, is absolutely killer. I'll have to check out Paisley now, see what I think of that track.
Please listen to ultraspank album called ultraspank and their second album progress pete murray is one of the greatest singers of all time they should have been one of the biggest nu metal bands they are incredible
This album really is filth, "Lava" is a sweet bassline that's damned fun to play. "Lay Lady Lay"'s a Bob Dylan cover ;) Mostly, my favourite Ministry album - next, "Dark side of the spoon" is DARK and you should probably do them in order... I think it's the last Great Ministry album. You might need to be in the "right head space" for it though - enjoy + good reaction/review :)
Filth Pig is the perfect name for this album, it just sounds like you're slowly sinking into mud. So much dirty sludginess. And I am SO excited for Dark Side Of The Spoon! I'm definitely starting to get addicted to Ministry's music haha.
Unfortunately this was the album that killed Ministry as a top 10 band for me. They were one of my must go to Tower Tecords at midnight and be a zombie at work next. This didn't work for me. I remember this album to me coming across as a more distorted NIN. Like Jourgensen was trying to show the world to much that the bands emerging and getting main stream success owed alot to them and it came of like a copy of their children by trying to clearly show their influence. The cover song was also something more like I would have expected on one of the Rev Co (Revolting Cocks) side project albums. Like the label wanted so many tracks so they moved it over to this album. That I said. I have kept buying Ministry albums, though so behind on my vinyl yet to actually hear the last album, but have liked albums from side bands like Lard, Rev Co, and Surgical Meth Machine that have been released in the following decades. So if you give another Ministry album would suggest 'The Land of Rape and Honey' where they started to become more than a synth pop band or 'The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste' which is my favorite album and the late Mike Scaccia was brought in as a guitarist.
Not a bad release by Ministry. The land of r$%× and honey, the mind is a terrible thing to taste, darkside of the spoon, House of the mole' are great. Animosity is fairly good too
@@mollyesanborn I noticed UA-cam's been eating comments at random - one that I left that I don't see here anymore, if you're looking for a good segue into Skinny Puppy - their Rabies album was one that they did with Al Jourgenson of Ministry and it's one of their more accessible albums (others worth checking after that - Last Rights, probably my favorite, as well as VIVISectVI and Mind the Perpetual Intercourse). Skinny Puppy were the first to do the Nine Inch Nails thing starting in 1984 so their style has been a staple in the industrial scene.

I would recommend the rest of Mr. Bungle’s discography. Which is disco volante (1995), California (1999) and the raging wrath of the Easter bunny (2020). They are all so different and special and I would love to see your reaction to them!
Molly has such good taste in Music.👍
These albums are all suggestions from you guys! Thanks for introducing me to these amazing bands 🤘
Saw them here in Orlando, Gary Newman opened for them
Lava rips, when it first came out I played it on loop.
Industrial recommendation: Machines of Loving Grace
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm always down for more industrial music :)
Hey Molly, love ya work, as always. I got a band to put on your radar if they aren't already.. One Minute Silence. They're Intense and 'bouncy'. I reckon you might like it.
Unpopular opinion but i think this is my favourite ministey album.
Enjoyed this more than I thought. I'd add Helmet to this Ministry sound. Cast Iron Metal.
Their record "Land Of Rape And Honey" is the foundation of metal industrial.
A few days late but that’s ok! Hey Molly! :)
Heavy record. Lava is my favorite.
Yeah, I love how sludgy they made the sound of this record.
Land of Rape of Honey and The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste are essential listening from their discography imo.
Their first album has his normal voice.... Kind of. I'm talking about his British accent😅. Standouts from that era are the popular Everyday Is Halloween, and my favorite, He's Angry.
They did an acoustic version of Everyday is Halloween recently: ua-cam.com/video/QorKFQ50ZK0/v-deo.html
Al’s real voice check out ministry bridge school acoustic performance 😊
I thought I take the time to ask which albums that were released in 2023 so far have you enjoyed.
My 10 albums are from 2023 (so far) are
Sleep Token take me back to eden
Maneskin rush
VV neon noir
Foo Fighters but here we are
Queens of the stone age in times new roman
Avenged sevenfold life is but a dream
Metallica 72 seasons
Jethro Tull RokFlote
Crown lands fearless
Smashing Pumpkins ATUM
Nice list! I am SO behind on listening to albums that have come out this year. So far Sleep Token gets my pick for #1.
You should do a reaction to Colors by Between the Buried and Me
1 half of this album is great. unfortunately, i feel you could take Filth Pig, Dark Side, and Ani, take the good stuff on them, and condense it into 1 album.
Great album
Please listen to ultraspank album called ultraspank and their second album progress pete murray is one of the greatest singers of all time they should have been one of the biggest nu metal bands they are incredible
This album really is filth, "Lava" is a sweet bassline that's damned fun to play.
"Lay Lady Lay"'s a Bob Dylan cover ;)
Mostly, my favourite Ministry album - next, "Dark side of the spoon" is DARK and you should probably do them in order...
I'm definitely starting to get addicted to Ministry's music haha.
hi molly, do you listen to death and black metal too?
_"Let's find out."_ - *Varg*
I'm always open to any genres! Definitely feel free to suggest some bands in the comments :)
@@mollyesanborn please review stained class album from judas priest
Suggest KMFDM band
Second that :D (NIHIL probably)
A lot of people hate this album, and even the guys in the band aren't fond of it. Maybe I'm weird but it might be my favorite Ministry album.
*_Pigs can sniff out truffles with their snouts._*
The bass = Paul Barker . He was the other genius in Ministry.
Not a bad release by Ministry. The land of r$%× and honey, the mind is a terrible thing to taste, darkside of the spoon, House of the mole' are great. Animosity is fairly good too
Molly is the girlfriend we wish we always had.
The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste - gotta hit that one.
Definitely! Can't wait to hear it :)
Good Album for smoking something
MAD SEASON Please!?!?!?!
I've got Mad Season on my list! Maybe once I finish up with Alice In Chains i'll check them out :)
@@mollyesanborn I think all you have left of AIC are 2 tracks from the Last Action Hero soundtrack, "What The Hell Have I" & "A Little Bitter", as well as the 2 last tracks they recorded with Layne in 1998, "Get Born Again" & "Died". Unless your talking about albums with William Duval? I don't believe in Alice In Chains without Layne. True fans dont either. No Layne, No Chains.
Can you see this?
Yep :)
@@mollyesanborn Ok I've left several comments on your most recent videos, but for some reason they keep getting deleted, not sure if it's you deleting them or bots, I don't think my comments say anything offensive or break any rules, and I hope i'm not being an annoying pest or anything, if I am I apologize and i'll back off.
@@tonyschannel7438 oh that's weird. I do have all my comments set to approval first except on my newest video. That could be why they sometimes don't appear right away. I try and go through them as often as I can. I appreciate you though! Sorry the comments keep disappearing on you.
@@mollyesanborn No worries, and hey, if I ever do start to become a pain in the ...you know what, or overstep any boundries, don't hesiatate to let me know. I'm glad you and I are cool, and I'd like for it to stay that way!
Not familiar with the album I always love the reactions though
Hope you enjoy the video! Definitely check out Filth Pig too if you get the chance, this album was great.
@@mollyesanborn yeah seem to tick many boxes of mine, i love their relentless distortion yet how clear the bass and drums are
Oh, wow! you're basically listening to Ministry in reverse... go back to the 80's and listen to their first two albums... you will see where bands like Korn, White Zombie and Limp Bizkit got their sound.
Listen to Thieves and the Land of Rape and Honey...
Yeah! second Ministry so soon. Glad you're loving it. Seen them many times from the early 90's into 2000's. As they are quite a technology embracing band, the singing sounds the same live. It's uncle Al's sound. I'm going to suggest again, one of the instigators of all this nonsense. KILLING JOKE. Do the first self titled album, Pandemonium or the second self titled album. Get going.😁
