Type O is famous for their tongue and cheek humor. Bloody Kisses (the song) is about Peter Steele's cat. Black #1 is the name of the hair dye that his girlfriend at the time used. This is my favorite album of theirs; I'm so glad I got to see them live 3x, twice from the front row. In fact, at one show, in a theater in South Florida, it was so hot, and jam packed... when "I Love You to Death" started playing, it also started snowing indoors. Type O had put a snow machine in the rafters to cool everyone down, and with blue and white lights, the visual was amazing!
Yeah, I saw them in Belgium in the late 90s. They had the snow (it was actually soapy foam) then too. Awesome gig, with Moonspell opening for them
Type O used to come to detroit for Halloween for years. I've seen them live over a dozen times. And i was there for the last show they ever played @harpo's RIP Pete..
Definitely, a unique band. None like them before them, none like them after them.
Yessir there is one and only one Type O Negative.
Oh man I love Type O so much. Everyone talks about Bloody Kisses and October Rust, but World Coming Down is hands down one of the best, most sorrowful albums ever made in my opinion,
World Coming Down was written at a particularly dark time in Pete Steele's life after a series of deaths in his family, and was so personal to him that after the initial tour, he couldn't listen to the majoirity of the songs on it or play them live.
I'll have to give that one a listen too. With October Rust and now Bloody Kisses I'm really loving what I'm hearing so far from Type O Negative and look forward to hearing more.
I think the only song they played live from that album was "World Falling Down"
But yeah it´s the best album they made, even though i think Dead Again never gets enough love.
@@arhurv5029
Yeah, September Sun of off Dead Again is probably my favourite song by them.
Pete Does the lows, Kenny Does the highs. They have a great dynamic when sharing vocals.
I really do love their vocals together, they're so different. It's a cool contrast of sounds.
Hey, Josh does vocals too
He’s in on more of the Beatles-y backups.
@@woodchuckmarmalade7878I've always considered them the bastard child of Black Sabbath and the Beatles. Two of Peter's favorite band I believe.
Pete 'did' the baritone,. Past tense..we miss the green man .
Seriously one of my most favorite band of all time. I get goosebumps every time.
Finally. About time. My favorite band of all time. Halloween just isn't the same without the big green man. RIP Peter. 💚🖤🧡
They are the definition of melodic metal.
Haha! Best birthday present ever, thanks Molly! I always call Bloody Kisses their second album because Faeces is a fake live thing. This is one of my absolute favourite albums ever, the composition is so perfectly considered. Every single second is brilliantly thought out, those 'ah's in the chorus of Christian Woman is one of the cleverest things in music history, for example. I genuinely can't put into words what this album means to me or how class I think it is. Glad you touched on the twin themes of sexuality and religion and how they interact, one of my favourite things about the band.
Oh happy birthday!!! Yeah this album was such a fantastic listen, so so much variety with their sound throughout the whole thing.
@@mollyesanborn for some context on kill all the white people, Steele's previous band Carnivore was a crossover thrash band so his roots are very punk. The first Type O album Slow, Deep and Hard is essentially just the five longest punk songs you've ever heard.
@@willhargreaveshf do not forget, that slow, deep and hard is of course mixed well with their doomy/sludgy side as well, so not only contains hardcore punk/crossover elements, but also atmospheric, doomy one as well. But, yeah, this is much more punkish and aggressive, also lyrically
Man I can't wait for you to hear their next trio of albums. All of them are straight up classics 😎
Great video Molly! As a lot of others have said, I think World Coming Down should be the next one to check out. "Everything Dies" is on there and that may be my favorite Type-O song.
So many good cuts on this one, but their cover of "Summer Breeze" kills!
Running the gambit of Type O albums will be fun. Watching the bands evolution in real time I was always captivated whenever they had a new release
This was a staple of my music growing up. I love Type O so much. Thank you for checking them out again. Josh Silver the keyboardist was also a producer on another band called Life of Agony, he would use interludes between songs as well. Maybe that is just his input with Type O Negative 🤷♂️
World Coming Down next!
I'll definitely think about doing a video for that one too!
Just finished your other Type O reaction, nice timing. :D
Oh nice, very good timing indeed! Hope you enjoyed both the reactions :)
I'd suggest World Coming Down; it's probably their darkest, doomiest and most personal album.
The 90s literally ruled for music..There is so much content for that era.
Ahhh, Type O Negative, brilliance! Everyone, check out These Three Things, their masterpiece imho.
Hurray! I listened to some of your other reactions this morning, and I come home from work to find this! Type O Negative is my favorite band! This comment is before I watch. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
That second vocalist you mentioned is the guitarist Kenny Hickey, you can hear him on all the albums. His guitar style can be heard as well on a lot of songs as well, it's pretty distinct
Ah okay, yeah his voice provides a really cool juxtaposition with Peter Steele's. I like how they infused it from time to time on this record.
@@mollyesanborn couldn't agree more, it's my favorite band of all time and I'm always glad to see other people discover them. Thanks for these videos they are awesome, you do a great job with how you fully listen to the music and that's all I could ask of anyone who's being introduced to an album for the first time. Keep it up dude you're great👌
I really appreciate that, thanks! ❤️
Also, you my be hearing the very distinct distortion on Peter's bass..
Awesome to see you react to another album from TON great vid 👍😁
Been excited for you to dive into this one since I found your channel!
Hey Molly, great reaction. This is one of my favourite albums, I like how they include all the variety of different sounds. Check out a band called A Pale Horse Named Death, they were formed by Sal Abruscato who was the original drummer for Type O Negative.
I absolutely love the variety of sounds on Bloody Kisses as well! And thanks for the band suggestion, I'll have to check their music out.
@@mollyesanborn I would love to see you do a video reaction of A Pale Horse Named Death. Another band you might want to check out is Cradle of Filth, although I suggest having the lyrics in front of you when you listen to them as it's sometimes hard to hear what they're saying because of the vocals
Amazing album.
The guitarist, Kenny, does most of the other higher vocals.
As someone said on the previous album, there’s usually a cover, here Summer Breeze is the cover.
I loved your reaction. As a huge type of negative fan it was very refreshing to see somebody revisit their work. In fact I’ve not listened to this album in so long that you inspired me to break it out and put it into rotation. I really like your insightful views and I enjoyed your reaction thoroughly and look forward to more.
Wow thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video! Type O Negative is fantastic and I'm loving my journey through their music so far.
YES!! Thank you for reaction to this. On Valentine’s Day too! I’ve been waiting for this. Great reaction as always, and I love the contrast of moody gothic and more upbeat punk sounds on this album. The one cool thing about Type O Negative is that they released a lot of covers, and all of them were redone in “their” style.
So glad you've done this album haven't commented in a bit but I hope your well. Awesome album. Love from Aus
Thank You for october rust and bloody kisses full album reaction, I love them and Your reactions are awesome for their die-hard fans♥️👍👌🙂💚🖤
I love that you like Type O so much!! RIP Peter 💚
So funny that you had those visualizations of snow on Frozen. There is a famous live video of that song with fake snow falling on the band.
I pretty much consider this, as well as most of the people I know who listen to them, to be their 1st legit full length alnum. The 1st 2 just feel more like E.P.s. So I'd go with World Coming Down next. It's definitely their Doomiest album lol.
I'll definitely consider doing a video for World Coming Down as well!
One of my all time favorite albums.
Molly, I'm curious if you've ever heard the original summer breeze by Seals & Crofts?
Fay Wray Come Out and Play is their take on the whole King Kong (1933) movie scene when the native tied up Ann Darrow (played by Fay Wray ) as a sacrificial offering for Kong. I love the tribal drumming in this..... It's the movie scene played out in sound. The screeching sound represents the fear she had when first seeing KONG,( or Kong himself )..... At least thats what I get out of it.
I’ve never listened to type o negative before! But they sound very interesting! Might give them a listen! 🤘🏻🖤🙌🏻
Fay Wray was the actress from the original king kong. That piece makes more sense in that context. Also, summer breeze is a cover.
Thanks for the info! :)
More type o negative albums plss😊
Oh man, Type O, such a great band. Peter Steels vocals are legendary. Black no 1 is my go to karaoke track lol
I remember back in the day when this album came out, I had no idea who Type O Negative was, but the album was at a free listening station and I listened to like a minute of Christian Woman and said yep, this is it. So glad I put those head phones on and gave them a listen, every song is an experience. Great review as always, Molly.
The free listening stations, the only reason to wake up on Saturdays 😂
Yo molly! New to the channel! Love what you got goin on! Glad I found you on the algorithm!
Such a great album. Great reaction also
Yep Bloody Kisses is fantastic, I agree! So glad I finally checked this one out.
Hi Molly I love your reactions so much
Aw thank you!! Glad you're enjoying the channel :)
Thank you very much Molly S. for the reaction to that album. It's such a good Type O record.
This girl gets it. great review/reaction.
Nice pick for Valentines Day Molly.
I don't know what you will think about World Coming Down album.
I'm very intrigued to hear it...
Yes! I love this album.
awesome! what a treat!
This is probably their best album, but I absolutely love World Coming Down (my personal introduction to them). I laugh at myself that I was a high school goth kid, but only got into Type O in my senior year. This band just embodies goth rock/metal in the 90's. A friend of mine compared them to another band I was listening to (Cradle of Filth). They sound nothing like each other, but I'm glad the guy brought them up.
Cradle of Filth is VERY different, but the "Cruelty and the Beast" & "Dusk and Her Embrace" albums are MUST listens, and would make for interesting reviews.
Molly, please do another TON album!! Truly a unique gem of a band. Either love or hate them, and if you liked them now, you will like them on other albums. Keep it up, love your channel!!!
The organ played at the start of Black No.1 is bascially the theme music for the 1960s sitcom "The Munsters" slowed down. (also Summer Breezze is a cover song, the original was done by "Seals and Croft"
Ahh thanks for letting me know... I've never seen the Munsters so I wasn't aware.
Another masterpiece😊
Yes this whole album is great!
You mentioned the chime sounds make you think of snowflakes in the song too late: frozen. If you watch the live version, during the slow part of the song, you will see suds floating in the air to look like snowflakes. Not sure if it’s every live version but the ones I’ve seen have it.
Oh that's so cool! Type O Negative really is brilliant at capturing very vivid imagery through their music, I love how they do that.
@@mollyesanborn Yes indeed, they were truly one of a kind
World coming down is their darkest, heaviest and best album that's the one to check out.
I'll definitely have to give that one a listen too!
that album sucked Pete hated that album
Summer Breeze is actually a cover version from the The Isley Brothers' song. That is because you felt the funky groovie. They took an absolutely happy music and transform everything in pure darkness! Love it!
Blast Summer Breeze every single time Summer comes around.
Real cool to see someone discover Type O. Gonna keep throwing out a reaction suggestion for what I think is one of the best bands ever: Cocteau Twins - Milk & Kisses.
Try World Coming Down. That album is so dark and heavy. One of my favorites as well.
Thanks for this. This is how you're supposed to listen to music. With full attention, as if watching a movie. I really like your interpretations too.
Been my fave band since the late 90s
One of the best 90's rock/metal albums along with "Blues for the red sun", "River runs red", "Dopes to Infinity", "Cleansing", "Chrome" and many many more.
I can't wait for you to listen to World coming down, it is their darkest album to date and imo it's their best.
I'm excited to hear it!
That “sludgy” guitar sound comes from Kenny always being tuned 2.5 steps down to B Standard. As far as I know Kenny used this same tuning for all of Type-O’s discography. Cheers!
One of the band that made me become a goth in the 90s 🖤
Second video of yours. I will check out more of your work. Just like my October Rust comment, the jumpy nature of your pacing didn’t allow me to pick up on what you were commenting about.
Definitely do world coming down next! It is interesting hearing these albums in order cause with this one they were trying to make a name with their first major studio. They had a plan and executed on their sophmore album which was more pop infused, as planned. World coming down follows after, which was known to be a pretty dark time for Peter which is why it has more of a gloomy sound, as if that could happen, right? Life is killing me kind of goes back to more upbeat sound but not in comparison to october rust, pretty solid album. Then their final album, dead again, took me a minute to get into, but is still classic type o.
My ranking(major studios):
October Rust
Life is Killing Me
World Coming Down
Bloody Kisses
Dead Again
This was my intro to Type O Negative...still probably my fave of theirs, but a great back catalog. Pete Steele's prior band Carnivore were amazing and so non PC. 'Kill All The White People' is reminiscent of Carnivore's approach.
This whole album gives me the goosebumps. I love the guitar riffs, melodies & changes. It's hard to listen to just any one track on this album. It's like this album is meant to be listened to in its entirety.
That "tin can" is called a Cowbell.
Hey Molly, I just wanted to let you know about two interesting things about this album:
Apparently, the song Bloody Kisses was about Peter mourning the death of one of his cats but he thought of making the meaning behind the track to be more subtle since he assumed that no one would want to hear him sing about a pet.
Second thing, is that around the making of this album, some of the members of Type O Negative were still incorporating the same sounds of their previous band Carnivore. They were more of a thrash crossover band hence why some of the songs on here sound more "punchy" and a bit out of place. As they go on with their discography, they would shed some of their thrashy-ness.
I love your reactions, they are pretty honest and natural.
I just unsuscribe a lot of reaction channels, because are fake as f*ck, very annoying to see how this people manipulate band's fandoms.
Thank you so much for your work, keep it real. ✌️
There was a thing when I was in middle school called "BMG music group" or something where you could sign up and pay one cent and get like 20 free albums, and then you have to pay $20 month after that - well I got my parents to sign up for it when I was 13 and got TON Bloody Kisses + October Rust and they became some of my favorite albums, and my moms favorites as well LOL.
Dope reaction! It would be awesome to see you do a reaction to Hi Ren from Ren. He's been popping off!
This was my initial intro to them. My music director had these extra posters of the album cover and I asked for a copy. I had to at least listen to the album at least once so wouldn't be a poser if anyone asked me about a poster on my wall. Became an instant fan.
I met Peter Steele many times when he was alive but never asked him about the claims of racism and such but in your comments I think you nailed it on the head. I always looked at the aggression of 'Kill' and 'We Hate' as their joke of what people expect white power music to sound like and probably a little anger about protests outside their shows. Never ran into it when I saw them multiple times in Georgia later in there career but definitely ran into protesters earlier in their career when seeing them in California. Those two songs are also closer to the sound of Carnivore a previous band of Steele's.
'Fay Wray' I am pretty sure is a tribute to King Kong. Fay Wray famously played the girl who tamed the beast in the 1930's version of Kong. So a giant gorilla is the demon you hear. Interesting if your listen came from a streaming site. Current versions of this album pretty sure removed the interludes and the two tracks I mentioned. Think the track order is changed too. Though I believe they been reissueing all the albums on vinyl maybe they have gone back to the original.
Sidenote: When I would fill-in dj at a go-go club I think the patrons liked me because at least one of the two table side dances for price of one sets I would play 'Christian Woman' and 'Black No. 1' back to back. 20 minutes was a way better value to your typical 6 to 12 minutes sets. Though I could have been nicer to the dancers I did have copies of the radio/video edits from radio singles. 🙊
Black No. 1. The radio edit and the album version are both AMAZING and essential.
I know it's too late (frozen) to listen to this for valentines day, but check out their song The Dream Is Dead
Haha I actually intentionally did this album for Valentine's Day... seemed very appropriate. I'll definitely have to give that track a listen, I may just do a reaction video for the full album Life Is Killing Me.
"That percussion" is a cowbell. As in, "Ive got a fever!"
I really liked this album. It was really good. Me and my best friend enjoyed it
I agree, Bloody Kisses was great. Loved all the variety with the sounds and genres on this project.
The title track is actually about Peter's cat that died back then.
Type O Neg is great. I got to see them live twice before Peter died.
Highly highly highly suggest listening to the band Nothingface. Album: Skeletons. Amazing group that isn’t around anymore but toured with Mudvayne, Disturbed, Panthers, Slipknof… ozzfest as well. Love the channel. Keep it up!!
I have the exact same wooden owl, even the eyes also lack symmetry, weird, although mine has some minimal paint. I purchased mine in Port Douglas, north of Cairns.... Super trippy :D
Their great!
Loved that album!!! U should check out their origin of the feeces album. Very impressive and enjoyable.
you should listen to some Coheed and Cambria next. I'm currently doing a deep-dive into their entire discography.
October Rust is still my favorite. But Bloody Kisses is really good to.
Both are fantastic, I agree! I don't know if I can pick my favorite between the two at the moment.
World Coming Down for me.
@@jameswallace5235 it’s good to. Such a talented band.
Hello, Miss Molly! The one thing about Faye Wray, didn't she star in King Kong? Thank you for your continued honesty and insight.
Love Type O, you should definitely check out & react to a electronic Industrial band called My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. Album I suggest is Confessions of a Knife, also please react to the band Hed pe. They're metal, punk, infused with hip hop, albums I suggest are their self titled album Hed pe, or Broke. Thx & keep the great reactions coming.
I'll have to check both of those bands out, I know that Hed pe has been suggested by some others as well. Glad you're enjoying the channel!
@@mollyesanborn thank you👊
Whenever I think of type o, I always start down a rabbit hole and end up listening to like amorphis, opeth, strapping young lad etc. Just can't help it lol
Edit: heavy as a really heavy thing by s.y.l. would be a great next album to review. I'd love to see your reaction to happy camper or Satan's ice cream truck haha
More Type O Negative please ( World Coming Down )
It's been a year, do World Coming Down! My favorite album!
Absolutely, I'd love to get to that album soon! I need some more Type O Negative music to jam out to :D
The original underground video for Christian woman is eerie and cool. They made it with the guys from LIfe of Agony.
The backing vocals are done by The Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir. Which are the band themselves 😂. Summer Breeze are a cover of the Seals & Croft. It has to be listened to with Set Me On Fire back to back.
Check out Peter Steele in his former band Carnivore. A great choice are Male Supremacy. Guitarist Kenny Hickey who are the second vocalist and drummer Johnny Kelly had a band from 2003-2017 called Seventh Void. Check out Heaven Is Gone. Keyboard player Josh Silver are incredible
The "Tin Can Drum" is a Cowbell 😎
🐮🔔
This album is so good - Christian Woman is so perfect - it has everything. Summer breeze is another one of my favorites
🍂🥀TYPE o NEGATIVE🥀🍂
Their version of ‘Black Sabbath’ is awesome
I'll have to check that out!
@@mollyesanborn yes pls
I recommend the version of Blood & Fire that was on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. That version is a masterpiece.
Thank you for covering this album, Type O Negative I think was the only Metal band to be successful in a time when we in general despised metal b/c of the shitty 80's hair band era. Bloody Kisses balanced the darkness of Goth with the aggression of metal. The lyrics are more humanistic and dealing with relationships. Thanks this is probably one of my top 5 favorite Metal albums(as I'm very picky with Metal).
I may have to give this album a listen. Summer Breeze may have me wonder what the rest of the album is like. By the way, check out the original Summer Breeze by Seals and Croft.

The non-stop variety of this mighty album reminds me of the Pink Floyd 'The Wall'
One of my favorite TON songs. It does take some patience tho🤣 Its slow and heavy and plodding like an obese sea lion. Definitely their darkest, most depressing song. That simple yet crushing guitar riff gives me chills every time, as does Peter's epic low vocals. Edit: my comment is on the song Bloody Kisses, not the album, btw
