I rember weltys store from when I was a kid back in the sixtys, there was a big mounted rainbow trout caught by a cool old guy called old man trout out of brooks lake. Him and this other older guy would be the first and last to leave brooks lake every year. The other guys name was red. We would spend two months at brooks lake every summer. Old man trout and red were my friends when I was little, I still miss them after all these years)
I was born in wakeeny k.s and moved to a small town in CO. For fifty years and left because of all of the people that moved their, been in Ellis k.s for two years. Looking to move back to the mountains as soon as possible.
Brilliant filming and commentary that has greatly inspired me for a planned trip from England to Wyoming & Montana in September. I will certainly add Dubois to my list of places to visit as it looks my kind of town. Thank you for your efforts and your inspiration.
Dubois is a great little town. I worked as a bartender at The Rustic Pine Tavern ,the Outlaw Saloon and the Ramshorn Inn back in the late 1970’s. Also worked for the gentleman who owned the rv park before it was an rv park. At the time I lived there it was a Motel. Nice video👍
One of the guys from work and I used DuBois as a base for fishing trips in the Winds. We used Blake Chamley as the outfitter. We both really enjoyed our time there.
Most beautiful town I've ever visited! We stayed at Crooked Creek Guest House and LOVED it there. Best customer service and yummy food at their restaurant. Cant wait to visit Wyoming, and of course Yellowstone, again!♥️
I LOVE Dubois!! Have been thru there many times, and 2 years ago I stayed there for a week for Susan K. Black painting seminar, and I also stayed at the Longhorn ( in a room tho). The Cowboy Cafe has the BEST and I mean the BEST pies!! On our yearly drive from staying at Togwotee back home to MI, we would drive thru and I always made my husband stop so I could buy several different slices for the road! But I think their food is very good- you must have had a bad day there. Dreaming of going back!
Thinking heavily about Dubois, its a runner up to Rawlins. I'm a truck driver and have an apartment in Kentucky, nice place but I'm in love with Wyoming!
I hitchhiked through Dubois many times over the years. Met some great people there. The Cowboy Cafe is a good place to eat. They have a real nice library. My book HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER: A HITCHHIKING JOURNEY ACROSS AMERICA is at that library.
My Wife and i have been in DuBois several times. Almost bought a small business in town. (a small set of small cabins used mostly by hunters during the winter months) This was in the early 1990,s. Love that town and it's history. Very friendly people.
Might take a drive up there from Dubois next time we're there. I see it's about an hour away. Can you give a bit more info on the site and things to see at the campground?
Dubois is surrounded by an interesting area of badlands that I think is on par with some of the scenery you can find in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. There’s several interesting trails that go into the badlands around Dubois that are worth seeing. The contrast in landscape between the badlands and the towering mountains is a stunning landscape.
You are correct that the French pronunciation of Dubois (dew-BWAH) does not apply to this Wyoming town, but neither does your choice of dew-BOYS. The correct pronunciation is DEW-boys. Any Wyoming resident would have been pleased to give you the correct pronunciation.
If you pronounce "dew" like dew on the grass you still don't quite have it. Doo--as in Doobie Brothers-- boice--as in choice is the correct wrong way it's been pronounced ever since the US Postal System decided that Never Sweat just wouldn't cut it and renamed the town 'Dubois'
Been in Dubois on hunting trips, Hunted Big Horn Sheep on Middle Mountain above Dubois way above timber line. Watched 2 big Bull Elk fight it out, what a sight .
Dubois, although not a gate town to Grand Teton/Yellowstone, is still on a major route to get too those two parks, so they take pride in looking "Western". Also lots of very rich folks live in and around Dubois now, since Jackson has gone to the Billionaires.Just thought you should know.
We go here every summer and like to fish. The Wind River is beautiful and with some exploring in the area, there are lots of things to do and places to go. Dubois is not a tourist town, it is a cow town. Don't expect to buy tons of tourist trinkets. The people are friendly and have their own events and customs. Just go and enjoy the scenery and the quiet.
We surely didn't encounter any. It's so laid back there, I can't imagine the need for speeding or setting a trap. If you like it slow, you'll love it there. Awesome scenery and kind of like you're back in time.
You got it pretty close but when pronouncing the name the emphasis is on the DU and not the boys! I live in Fremont County, Wyoming and hav so for over 60 years and have been to Duois a couple of hundred times, easily! A beautiful town with great people! The Mountain Man Rendezvous they used to have was a great amount of fun, even for those who weren't Buckskinners!
@@robertallen6710wrong. Wyomingites usually put the emphasis on the first syllable of place name. If you go there and insist on the French pronunciation, be prepared to be corrected strongly and often. DOO- boys.
We are subscribers here thank you for the video I cannot wait to go there. Wyoming is a place that I am looking forward to going to.my husband and I have been full-timers in our travel trailer for a few years we plan on hitting the road this next May hoping everything will calm down by then.if you get a chance come by and check out our channel you guys have a wonderful day

Great place on my backpacking trip. Keep it small. That smallness magnifies the beauty of it Small and beautyful.
I just moved here to dubois with my 2 daughters from Kansas love it so far.. Good clean mountain air, nice folks.
We really enjoyed our visit! Good to hear you love it. :O)

I am so very ready to go back. I'm having RV withdrawals. :O)
The best RV park! I used to work there couple years ago. Dubois has special place in my heart.
It's so weird. It's so remote you wouldn't think so, but it's very beautiful there.

It's been a while, but still have wonderful thoughts of our stay there.
Great video! We’re headed to Dubois next week so excited! Cheers!
So jealous here MG! I want to go back and I'm stuck at home for the moment.

We are headed there the first week of October.
Also staying at Longhorn Ranch. Plan to do some side by side riding and explore the parks.
Awesome video. It was a enjoyable trip

Take a right at Dubois, (county road going N.) (Double Cabins Campground) (agatized forest ).

Well, James, that bums me out. I hope it's beautiful when we go back.

I'm glad it's not a tourist trap, I'm thinking of moving there👍
@@freddymarcel-marcum6831 I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Someone complained on Tripavisor that the cops set up speed traps there. Is that true? We are headed there in September

Thank you so much for your reply
We are always very careful...just obey the speed limit.
Haven't noticed any speed traps . But have seen police with vehicles pulled over . I'm sure they had a good reason.

If you are traveling through Dubois, don’t stay at Lava Mountain Lodge. It’s an absolute shithole
No. It's not pronounced "du-BOIS". It's pronounced DU-bois."
this place sucks trust me i live hear, nearest mcdonalds is in riverton 1 hour away
Which is why people want to live in Dubois.
Your opinion is heavily discounted by your spelling and grammar.
