Here is an option for anyone wanting to visit Jackson. If you would like to visit and not burn a hole in your pocket stay in Pinedale, Wyoming which is about a 1:45 minute drive to get to Jackson. It's a beautiful drive. Then you can just spend the entire day in Jackson. Again, it's just an option. Safe Travels either way.
My daughter went to Berkeley Architectural school and her first job she had her boss had the Landscape design for the Elk Museum and He was so busy he gave the project to her. I have taken a tour with her and every thing she designed outside is amazing and so proud of her first project.
I was a canoe guide on the Snake River in 1973. Spent hours in and around Jackson. I loved it, many great memories. Won't go back again, nothing is the same there anymore.
I live in Evanston, WY in the southwest corner of Wyoming. We go to Jackson and Yellowstone all the time. I have a tip to viewing the Tetons. Find out what time the sun rises. Head out an hour before sunrise and situate yourself in one of the pulls outs just off the highway with a great view. When the sun rises and turns the tips of the Tetons a beautiful pinkish yellow, you will know it was worth it... bring a coat. Also, most beautiful time to go to Yellowstone is mid-September. The colors change early there.
Sonja Eves Hi, i am from England Wyoming is on our 'bucket list' my husband & I plan to visit next year or 2022 if covid is under control - looks a wonderful place, i expect you love living there? 🌞🤗
@@alisonstroud1653 I LOVE summer in Wyoming and early autumn. However, winter temperatures regularly get down to -28.9°C and have even been know to get as low as -40°C. The cold, combined with the winds we have here, make winter and spring not so desirable. We experienced snow this year in mid-June, as well as mid-September. It was brutal! Another thing to know about Wyoming, is that if you are just driving on I-80 (the main highway through the state), Wyoming looks quite boring and not very pretty to many people, but there are many beautiful locations throughout the state. If you have the time, in addition to Wyoming, please take the time to visit the beautiful National Parks in Utah. Arches is stunning! Also, don’t miss Goblin Valley. It feels like you step out of your car and onto the moon! So many diverse landscapes in Utah. I could go on and on. Just be sure to do your research. Watch UA-cam videos and even look on Pinterest for travel location ideas to get the most out of your vacation. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Traveled to Jackson, WY in June this past year. The early morning temperature was at 36 degrees. Rose to 70. Now I don’t know if it was the time of year but the prices were not bad. Hotel was affordable in the downtown area, plenty of parking, and able to walk in to a restaurant. Of course, what I did during my time was drive to Bozeman, MT from Jackson and that was the most beautiful drive I have ever taken.
All reasonable advice for Jackson. I'd add a few. Don't be afraid to walk places. Driving around Jackson can be a pita. If it's tourist season finding parking can be a nightmare. The town is small enough that you can walk almost anywhere in a reasonable time. If your budget is tight, there are places to eat that don't blow the budget, but they're not going to be near the town square. If you're visiting the parks, don't sleep in, get up early and get into the parks EARLY. The big attractions in GT and YS get busy FAST!
Jackson and gran teton national park are the most beautiful place I had been in the USA I’m from CR and because of work I has traveled everywhere in the US and Grand Teton is amazing 🤩
I'm your local optometrist in Jackson Hole, and don't forget to bring spare glasses and contacts. I definitely don't have everything stocked and it takes a few days to order stuff in. Nothing is fast in Jackson especially the mail.
Took my wife to Jackson for her first visit this past September. Yes, it was very busy. However, we planned our trip, booking tours, float trips, a fly fishing trip, and dinners in advance. This made for an extremely pleasing trip. We are planning a winter trip now already booking excursions and lodging.
I've used Wolter's advice when travelling abroad many times. Loved his advice for Ireland and Scottland! I put it to good use! I have a vacation home in Jackson, WY so it's great to see that Wolter made a video there during the pandemic. I was there a month ago for ten days and Jackson was packed with people. Wolter's advice for the do's and don'ts in JH is spot on! Thanks again for another quality travel video!
Wolters World, you have some very great tips on visiting Jackson. Especially booking early, making reservations and giving the wildlife their space. Things to note; if you don't book early, don't expect to camp in your RV or vehicle overnight as it's illegal within the town limits. Booking early also applies to some of the RV parks and finding a campsite in the national forest can be tricky if you don't arrive super early. Respecting the wildlife, thank you so much for commenting on this!! The wildlife here are so magnificent and they do require space. Too often we find tourists standing within 5 feet of a moose to take a selfie...while they may leave this unscathed, moose can be incredibly aggressive when pushed too far. Driving at night, watch for the wildlife, this is not the time to take your eyes off the road for a second, they cross the highways a great deal. Moose and buffalo are super hard to see at night. Finally, the traffic. Since Jackson Hole has become such a popular destination, the highways have become unbelievably busy especially during commuter hours. People still work here and must commute from outlying areas into work. This can cause traffic delays up to half an hour at times possibly more depending on the amount of traffic. If you're headed back from the park for a dinner reservation, plan ahead for traffic delays. Great video!! :)
All great advice! We've found on several trips where breakfast lines are really long is to just do brunch (if available), which also sets you up for an earlier dinner, since you'll be skipping lunch, which can put you ahead of dinner crowds.
Maybe I'm just kinda partial, but I love the raw beauty of the whole state of Wyoming! I was born in Casper, lived there until I was 5 years old then moved away. I can't wait to retire cause that is where I'm going. Great review of Jackson by the way.
Was there in mid 70s I remember the antlers and the Tetons I’m sure it was more affordable back then but it was fairly tourist heavy anyway thanks for posting it’s beautiful!
Wyoming is one of those places to visit when you've exhausted the majority of your bucket list. It's in a part of the U.S. that is wide open, and there are many places that are representative of the Continental Divide type of territory. Do some homework and choose wisely.
This was about the most inspiring travel to America clip I think I've seen... Ever.. first introduction to food I would actually eat , you filmed real hopes in a location for the authenticity of the historical and the functions of a tourism industry and locals making that happen... I'm not a ski enthusiast nor care for nature walks but the way you captured that area made me feel like I just wanted a big deep breath of that mountain air , that misty clearing morning clarity and a sense of fulfillment from having long distance imaginations all the way from Australia just wondering how accurately my mind's eye can match what I one day hope to see for myself. Then I'll think back to this comment and marry up my inspired line to my impressions when I'm finally there at Jackson.. Wyoming here I come ...whoooo
I now see why my parents didn't just cancel their trip to Jackson Hole this time last year. They must have planned the trip for some time and were going for my dad's birthday. Great post! Thanks for all the great tips for our visitors. First time I met my then to be future wife was in Jackson. That was 45 years ago! Great place, but like you say, expensive and sometimes a bit crowded but not a problem if you plan for it
Good advice we went in August and Jackson is no cheap it’s so true and we tried to get a tour to see animals during the morning and we only went for 4 days and it was all booked. We drove around and to try to see as much as we could and we were lucky to see Moose, bears, bison, elks, etc. The traffic was so bad to go to the city of Jackson a lot of people for summer. It was our first time doing a big road trip from California. We ate in a pizza place in moose town my two kids loved it. I called the town Jackson Hole, I had not idea the town name was Jackson 😅😅🤭, thanks for clarifying.
Have gone to Jackson in summer and in winter to ski...city is empty in winter imho. Also I stay at any number of downtown hotels for well under $200. Go to Merry Piglets for best fajitas ever..and I live in Texas...so that is a high bar for MexTex
We are staying at the Flat Creek Inn for the whole month of April for $1450. We love off season. Some places are closed but it is still amazing. We go to Yellowstone on opening day and there is not hardly any traffic at all.
Only time I was in Jackson Hole was for a weekend during college for the cutty sark races with the horses and sleigh on the lakes great time to see the elk
Thank you for acknowledging he city of Jackson. Visitors and even people that live there (Californians) call it Jackson Hole which as you said is incorrect
You forgot one man. Another one is don't forget to visit the Bar J Wranglers. They are an awesome country band that is family friendly, the also serve you great food to go along with their performance. Seeing them when you're in Jackson is a must.
This is the one definite MUST thing to do. We were so pleasantly surprised, and have done Bar J the last six years. However, this year is the last year for Bar J Wranglers.
Elk is the best! I’m a life long local and grew up on it. Great tips! Thanks for being a smart visitor who doesn’t try to stuff a baby Buffalo in your car! 🤦🏼♀️ Yes, that has happened. lol
You don't have to stay in Jackson. There are other options: Cody, WY and West Yellowstone, Montana. Another don't is don't think that Yellowstone is just up the road and you can go see it in one day.
Been there. Beautiful area, high priced, large animals, larger mountains. Don't expect the hotels to have elevators. Don't expect all the people working in the restaurants and shops to be locals. Don't expect to walk at a good clip in town. Even with a fishing guide on a boat, do not expect to automatically catch fish. Do tip well, it is expensive to be there for the tourists. Do prepare for the higher altitude, you may have a headache the first day, and the risk of sunburn is higher. Do pull off the road to take in the views. Cash may or may not get you a better deal in the shops, go ahead and ask. Have a navigator in town looking a block or two ahead at the traffic lights, you do not want to get stuck in the wrong lane.
You got yourself some really nice family pictures 👍❗ Greetings from Montreal 🙋♀️💌 P.S. If not for pandemic you wouldn't show us your Beautiful Country 😉 - the United States of America. God bless You - Stay Strong 💪 !!! we love You 💗
Despite some unfavorable opinions of people visiting this place, the city looks beautiful from the perspective of a Pole living in Łódź. Good luck to all Americans.
A few more don'ts. Don't miss out on anything huckleberry! Ice cream, popcorn, bon bons, jam, even BBQ sauce. It's amazing and you probably can't get it at home. We can't in TN. The huckleberry oreo milkshake at The Pharmacy in Jackson is probably the best milkshake I've ever had. Another don't is don't oversleep and stay up late. Seeing all the wildlife at the break of dawn is amazing. We got to see moose, elk, bears and bison, all in the early mornings. Stay up late and drive out of town and see the stars. You probably won't see the sky like that where you're from because of light pollution. It's breathtaking.
Great video! This was helpful in planning our trip this year …that is, if we can find affordable lodging. Looking to come in Sept and prices are insane!
My grandfather built his house in Teton valley just outside Jackson about 25 years ago most beautiful place I’ve been and I wish it wasn’t halfway across the country from us
Jackson Hole, Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Sun Valley, Steamboat. They are all over-priced and over-rated ski resorts, filled with the rich and those pretending to be rich. Ski one of the many lesser known but outstanding ski areas and you will have more fun at a fraction of the cost. My own favorites are Angel Fire in New Mexico, Big Powderhorn in Michigan's remote Upper Peninsula, and Gunstock in New Hampshire.
Man I miss it out there people in the town were nice but I miss driving along Flat creek at around 5:00 am in the dead of winter just seeing the elk, moose, and eagles roaming free I could just keep driving and getting out taking pictures of the wildlife and just being in the snow
Just listening to all the cars made me realize I need to look for somewhere else to stay when I go to Wyoming. Although $500 a night would have steered me away anyhow. I paid almost that much in Boston but I didn't have to get a rental car so it kind of canceled out.
Just stopped by to give my thumbs up before the game tonight. Also, I'm looking forward to wearing my Wolters World 1/4 zip when it gets here. Safe travels to everyone!
frankly as soon as I have the opportunity I think Jackson will be my first city where I would go to the USA for my first trip to the United States it's too good I find the environment of Jackson sincerely! 05:11 it's a beauty ! god
@@McLacBlack Not even close to world class. Try the other side of the divide in Idaho, namely the Henry's Fork, Teton River, Bitch creek...etc. Even better fishing near West Yellowstone. Or go to Cody and fish the South Fork of the Shoshone and other rivers. I've always wondered why people think Jackson has amazing fishing when it does not.
Dick Cheyney used to live there (maybe he still does) We flew into Jackson in Sept 2001 and Airforce 2 and some Blackhawk helicopters were parked down the far end. That meant he was in town and not back in DC. Didn't see him while we were there. Jackson is a great town.
We got a 6 day camping trip in Tetons the first week of Sept (obviously can't wait) don't plan on spending much time in Jackson maybe to shower is all.
Three minutes on Agoda, and I found several places within a hundred yards from town square, for around 150 USD, nice too. Not sure where the 500 thing came from .
Hahaha , no problem about not getting too near the wildlife , I am South African and I have been at national parks where there are lions and hyenas and other wild cats , I already know about staying inside the car around wild animals so I won't try be curious about feeling a bison's fur (although they are beautiful animals I am not into eating meat although I may try elk but not bison)- What a fascinating video Mark , are there any particular cities or states that are safe for women to travel to alone-?
Don't sweat it if you don't make it back. The place has completely changed since you were there, not for the better, IMHO. Savor your memories. It's not really Wyoming anymore. Think North Vail.
I agree. I got married in the elk refuge in the 80s and haven't been back because I can't afford it even though I am a Wyoming resident and earn a decent salary.

Great video. I love Wyoming! I mentioned this one other time but I thought I would post it again-anyone with a handicapped parking placard or handicapped plates on their car get into National Parks for free. You get a pass and just show the pass with your drivers license when entering parks.
There is a pass for disabled people U can get on the spot, just show your social security award letter and vola U get a plastic card, but as far as parking, that is NOT free! Only 62 and older and active members of the armed services
@@sitdowndogbreath -I assume you are talking about parking for campers/ RV's? I did post CAR no mention of campers/RV's-I do not have an RV and if you have a car there are always handicap spaces available( I have not seen any abuses with handcapped parking in National Parks) -an award letter will not help you there.

This video has validated this channel for me.
Elk is the best! I’m a life long local and grew up on it. Great tips! Thanks for being a smart visitor who doesn’t try to stuff a baby Buffalo in your car! 🤦🏼♀️ Yes, that has happened. lol
it is crazy that stuff like that does happen. It's crazy
I was waiting for that "Don't mess with the animals" tip. Animals out west are nothing to be played with.
Precise information!
Oh stop it, you know the big fuzzy cow wants a giant hug!
Beautiful Jackson, Wyoming. Another great video!
I visited Jackson in June 2019 and I am planning to go back next year in either May or June.
You don't have to stay in Jackson. There are other options: Cody, WY and West Yellowstone, Montana. Another don't is don't think that Yellowstone is just up the road and you can go see it in one day.
I live in Idaho and go to Jackson every once in a while...you have done an excellent job of explaining the experience!
Thanks so much for the info......we live in Nevada and are planning to head up there in a few weeks! Love your videos!
Beautiful area and great tips! We will be here soon within the month :) this video helped make our plans. Happy travels, cheers from Florida

Thank you for your wonderful message for your neighbors to the south!

Much appreciated!

wishing we would of visited the art museum. Next time for sure. Number 1 thing you hit it right on Jackson is EXPENSIVE, but worth visiting.
Went there last Sept/Oct and the best Bison Ribeye is at Rustic Inn and Bistro!!!! Hands down!!!! 😋
Despite some unfavorable opinions of people visiting this place, the city looks beautiful from the perspective of a Pole living in Łódź. Good luck to all Americans.
I clicked on this just to see some footage of the area but damn, those are AMAZING travel tips.
My grandfather built his house in Teton valley just outside Jackson about 25 years ago most beautiful place I’ve been and I wish it wasn’t halfway across the country from us
Every place I want to visit Wolter has done a video there!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved visiting that town so fun and underrated!
Just listening to all the cars made me realize I need to look for somewhere else to stay when I go to Wyoming. Although $500 a night would have steered me away anyhow. I paid almost that much in Boston but I didn't have to get a rental car so it kind of canceled out.
Very nice video presentation, good research regarding the details. Thanks for sharing!
05:11 it's a beauty ! god
I’m going in 9 days with a couple of friends. I can’t wait.
Haven't been to Jackson since I was 5 years old. Thinking of visiting again. Bet the fishing is good there.
World class...
Oh my god that’s where i live
I’m glad you had so much fun😀
your is lucky !!
I living in france it's sad in my city " Aurillac
It's in the center france "region" " Auvergne " département du "Cantal "
Dick Cheyney used to live there (maybe he still does) We flew into Jackson in Sept 2001 and Airforce 2 and some Blackhawk helicopters were parked down the far end. That meant he was in town and not back in DC.
Didn't see him while we were there. Jackson is a great town.
We got a 6 day camping trip in Tetons the first week of Sept (obviously can't wait) don't plan on spending much time in Jackson maybe to shower is all.
About the lights its similar to Banff,Canada not much light after sundown including it gets COLD between 3.00-9.00😅
Another great video. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for tip on the park pass, being old is good for something I guess.
We visit Jackson and Tetons every year, completely agree with everything here.
thanks Max!
Three minutes on Agoda, and I found several places within a hundred yards from town square, for around 150 USD, nice too. Not sure where the 500 thing came from .
No $150. Places when we were there in September even the only camping spot we found was $130.00 don't plan on spending the night there.
You know you live in modern times when travel tips consist of "don't try to get a selfie with a bear"
sad part is that I have to put that in there
Hahaha , no problem about not getting too near the wildlife , I am South African and I have been at national parks where there are lions and hyenas and other wild cats , I already know about staying inside the car around wild animals so I won't try be curious about feeling a bison's fur (although they are beautiful animals I am not into eating meat although I may try elk but not bison)-
What a fascinating video Mark , are there any particular cities or states that are safe for women to travel to alone-?
The elk steak and bison steak are to die for. So delicious. We had them at the Million Dollar Cowboy.
Nice video. Last time I was in Jackson was 1982, and a few times before that. It's a place I'd like to see at least one more time.
Don't sweat it if you don't make it back. The place has completely changed since you were there, not for the better, IMHO. Savor your memories. It's not really Wyoming anymore. Think North Vail.
@@susans3411 I've been to Vail, but only once, and that was in 1979, so I guess I don't know much about that place today, either!
My family homesteaded there and I spent most of my child hood there. The town is a mess
I agree. I got married in the elk refuge in the 80s and haven't been back because I can't afford it even though I am a Wyoming resident and earn a decent salary.
@@stephaniemccord6100 This time of year you can get the locals discount at motels. About half price. You just have to be a Wyoming resident and ask for it.
@@wyominghorseman9172 Thank you for letting me know.
As did my family :) the kneedy / chambers
Same!!
This is amazing thank you so much. Can’t wait
Great video. I love Wyoming! I mentioned this one other time but I thought I would post it again-anyone with a handicapped parking placard or handicapped plates on their car get into National Parks for free. You get a pass and just show the pass with your drivers license when entering parks.
Thank you for mentioning it again. Very helpful to know. I need to remember to mention that in a future video
There is a pass for disabled people U can get on the spot, just show your social security award letter and vola U get a plastic card, but as far as parking, that is NOT free! Only 62 and older and active members of the armed services
@@sitdowndogbreath -I assume you are talking about parking for campers/ RV's? I did post CAR no mention of campers/RV's-I do not have an RV and if you have a car there are always handicap spaces available( I have not seen any abuses with handcapped parking in National Parks) -an award letter will not help you there.
if you really wanna fill a Wyoming go to a small town like Riverton or lander or casper or anything else besides Jackson you will get a better experience if you wanna meet locals
Wonderful tips! We just booked our trip for this summer now that we’ve got our vaccines. Excited to explore Grand Tetons and Yellowstone!
Got here because of the Sunday Papers podcast, one of their hosts stays there right now. God, what a beautiful place.
It really is gorgeous
Hallo Wolter. Vielen Dank für die guten Tipps. Werde dieses Jahr im September mit meinem besten Freund dort sein. Hast mir sehr geholfen mit diesem Video. Dankeschön.
Traveled there in 2013!!! So nice to recall!!! Love your chanel wolter!!!
Thank you
i use to love jackson wyoming but the last time i was there i could not get out of there fast enough. i almost felt like the tourists were side-eyeing me for being a tourist.
Living in Jackson this is sooooooo funny
that art museum is definitely a must see
Another great video. Thanks!
Fun fact. In Jackson there is a road names deloney Ave which is named after my great great grandfather.
Go to the Jackson Hole Playhouse! I work there sometimes, and it’s so much fun!!
It really is worth it!
Was there in late 70s or early 80s the best 4 days with 4 of my girlfriends, over Labor day weekend I think, it was the best, I think it was the saddle bar and saloon, the best weekend ever!
I needed to see this video! I like traveling to places that get cold and snowy in the winter time, but I'm not really into skiing. It's nice to know there's more to do in Jackson Hole than just skiing.
It's a winter wonderland and a summer playground...
“Family vacation” beer. Unbeatable
Very informational video on Jackson in Jackson Hole, Wyoming! Definitely learned a lot! Is there an airport close by? Do most people drive in?
There is an airport about 15 minutes from Jackson.
The only airport located within a national park system. The Jackson Hole Airport. You can find many commercial flights in and out!
My wife’s a teacher so we always go on big trips with the family in the summer. Is it better to visit during June July or August. And, is 2 nights 3 days each good enough to see Jackson (Teton) and west Yellowstone (Yellowstone).
I used to live here. The cheapest condos that I could find that wasn’t a dump was around 800k. Gorgeous though. I really miss it!
Seems like there is plenty of room to build so why is it so expensive?
