For the Material "Depot", if you are near the 1000 Limit, you can exchange lower Tier Materials to Higher Tier Materials. The Depot counts only the Amount, not the Point for each Material. Lets say you are at 900 Material, then you can exchange all lower Tier Material to Titanplate or Graphen and after that Your Storage is only at 500. If you need lower Tier Material, you simply trade the higher Tier to the lower Tier and make the Upgrade. If you hit the 1000 Mark, you can't trade anything, because you get an error. I hope Frontier will fix this soon. But you can sell some Material, so you have 950 Storage, now you can trade again.
Started to upgrade my exploration suit when Odyssey first came out. Saw the grind ahead and stopped playing. Haven’t touched it since. The grind combined with the rework of the UI and maps just wrecked the game for me. I’ve never seen a developer take such a huge step backwards.
A note regarding support missions: They are state dependent. They will only spawn as a result of the settlement's controlling faction being in an Infrastructure Failure state. I think the Natural Disaster state also works for this, but I haven't verified in game.
This is one of the main reasons I gave up playing a couple of months ago. The grind to upgrade my suit and weapons was just too much, I simply just stopped enjoying the game after 20 years of Elite. When I do go back t playing Elite it will because I still watch your videos to keep up to date. Thanks for holding the flame.
Completion advices: 1. You can collect whatever you want, trade them for rarest items, Hawkes explained this since Odyssey started. So for example you can have 300 Graphene, which are the rarest and trade them back for whatever you want and so on, with each category. Optical Fibre and Optical Lens, etc. These are highest grade, like Military Supercapacitors or Biotech Conductors in ships. And the ratio is 1 to 4 or 1 to 6 lower tier. This way, you will actually have more than 1000 limit if you transform them in lower rarity. 2. It is good to tell people that failing missions for power regulators could end up in getting hostile with the faction and you won't be able to go in a system controlled by that faction or even visit the station, you will be instantly destroyed. So no more than "unfriendly" is recommended. Better to pick from more factions and go in a different system to choose from other factions. 3. Data can be obtained from Anarchy settlements (controlled only by anarchy factions) but I give the same advice as at point 2, no more than unfriendly, otherwise you won't be able to go there without ending hostile and fire on sight. Better try to re-earn reputation with that faction before another drop in that settlement. Pick missions from them, donate, or passenger missions. Then repeat the grind. o7 Astro :)
I have so much to learn. My buddy who got me into the game kind of abandoned me right when Odyssey came out, feel a little lost right now. Just going to watch as many videos of yours as I can until I can wrap my head around the ground missions a bit more.
any chance you stuck with Elite D? I've lost over 50 million credits "learning" Odyssey and really don't see the point. For a FPS, I play HALO. Horizons is GREAT
@@solosailorsv8065 Honestly I don't do much odyssey content. I did stick with ED, but I make tons of money doing other things. Road to Riches, passenger missions, cargo hauling, even biological surveying. Money is no issue.
Good video, ty. Adding one tip. Just pick up the highest value items in each of the 3 groups to trade. Not everything. You only need to remember a few of each type. 75% of the stuff is such low value, it will fill your inventory and it's almost worthless in trade.
Same although I never really started. Dabbled, remembered I came to elite to fly spaceships and after a little time off Im back to doing that. Hey Frontier!....hamster wheels are not fun. Fun is fun. Quit looking at the spreadsheets regarding player login time and engagement when deciding to put in grind that no one wants to do and....ya know...put in fun, creative, content. Just saying.
@@rezelltheblack I am in Odyssey. I fly in Odyssey, I just do Horizons things in Odyssey. I have zero interest in Thargoids. I use an X Box controller, I don't want to do FPS with an X Box controller and I'm not going to teach myself Mouse and Keyboard for a poor FPS. Just upgrading my suit from 3 - 5 was a massive grind. Not going to do any other upgrading/Engineering for that. Scanning plants is OK in a wing but most things are OK in a wing. Scorpion is nice but we learn it was held back from Horizons. My main gripe with Odyssey gear grinding is that it necessitates a lot of stealthy, illegal play. Which is fine as far as it goes, but seems limited to just the one path. I don't understand why straightforward military-mercenary gameplay (i.e., ground conflict zones) doesn't offer an alternate viable method. Occasionally (perhaps 1 out of every 8 or so) a settlement post-CZ will remain sufficiently intact to loot some items...but not data, and not power regulators. Seems to me that there ought to be some material-awarding missions which correspond to ground CZ's (the same way that there are such missions for orbital CZ's). Also, regarding Power Regulators, a gameplay loop in which deliberately failing missions is clearly the best way to obtain a given item is just a flat-out failure of design, plain and simple. And yes, I know I'm probably only the 2-millionth person to say that, lol.
Good breakdown 👍 Its really not too bad when you use mission rewards as a source. I finished all my upgrading in 4-5 weeks and enjoyed myself doing it.
Agreed. I like doing the missions and then collecting loot on the way. Don’t worry about how quickly you upgrade to the best suit just enjoy the missions and gain loot on the way. I also find training myself on the missions in anarchy (especially illegal or assassination ) was a good way to practice so I got good(ish) and could help my bgs team more successfully.
Not that bad, but still too long to grind a simple thing like scope. Also the mechanics makes it very bad, like the material storage limit, the lack of material trader in assets and data, and so on.

Go to Eurybia, take massacre missions against controlling faction (Anarchy) and you wont get (WANTED) as long as the mission is active. Go loot whatever outpost they own and kill without consequence. They will also let you dock/repair/etc without any issues (because Anarchy).

Thanks, but playing something means to me fun. Not monotonously repeating same dull actions for thousands times, wasting months to get some doubtful stupid suit upgrade. ED Odyssey still sucks.
