A shaggy dog, when used in literature, is a plot point that ends up being useless/unimportant. So shaggy dog cave, is a giant, beautiful joke

@@truefailure6359 Not really. A red herring in literature is something meant to mislead you and keep you from discovering the truth. A shaggy dog seems to be just a useless fact not needed to progress or understand the plot. It doesn't distract you from certain plot points or purposely mislead the audience in order to set up a plot twist or shocking reveal later on. A shaggy dog either enriches the story for the reader by adding the mundane little details to make things more realistic or bores the reader with the logistics no one needed to be told. In this case, the later for most people.

The shaggy dog cave joke was absolutely phenomenal. I don't think I've ever seen a game mention the "shaggy dog joke" in such a spot on, hilarious manner.
For those that don't know, saying a joke was a shaggy dog joke is equal to saying "that joke was too long and not worth the time it took to hear it," and that is exactly what this cave is made to convey.
I knew going in what shaggy dog meant, and I was expecting an extremely lame joke at the end of this sequence. And yet the actual outcome still managed to surpass all of my expectations.

Part of the joke is that we never find out what happened to the shaggy dog. It was seen riding toward the Cave on a stolen horse and then never appeared in the narrative again.

Lol I didn't realize that Gary has such stinted grammar because Mark studied the goblin language for less than a day and is only translating Gary's speech literally without the syntax. Like if Mumflr wanted to say "I will eat breakfast today" in Goblintongue he should probably structure it as "Today I will breakfasts eating."
Remember: all of Gary's bad grammar isn't cuz he's bad at english, it's cuz Mumflr is bad at goblin

There are days. If you die in combat or pass out from anger you wake up the next morning
He mailed a postcard early on, he'll never get a reply unless he sleeps. And the food buffs are quite varied - sometimes you'll want to stack a particular stat, but the food limit won't let you, so you have to sleep off whatever you ate before. It's not as broken as it first seems!
