It's really unfortunate since a few reactions to Clerks 1 exist here, but I'm unaware of any for #2; aside from specific scenes of the sequel as opposed to the whole movie.
The fact that Jay didn’t know what the internet was wasn’t entirely shocking back in 2001. Broadband was only just becoming a thing and most people were still using dial up connections and many people still didn’t have the internet in their homes. It was a different time.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck appearing in both Dogma and this movie was a thank you to Kevin Smith for the huge role in getting both Miramax and Gus Van Zant to take on their project Good Will Hunting.
I dont think Kevin smith had anything to do with good will hunting being brought to the screen, Kevin Smith was a nobody at the time stop making stuff up
The references to the movie "The Fugitive" (a Harrison Ford movie from 1993) were in this movie as a way to include Harrison Ford in a way so all three of the main Star Wars Characters could be in the movie since Mark Hamill and Carry Fischer already played parts in it.
The scene with the hitchhiker (George Carlin) will always be my favorite. I've been an extra in several of Kevin's movies because back in the day, he would advertise on his website when and where to be. My g/f at the time lived in the development behind this scene and when I was visiting I called Gail (Kevin's assistant and mother in law) and they invited us over to watch the filming. 3 days later we were in the closing scene at the Time concert. My daughters picture is also on the "Wanted" bulliten board in the sheriffs office. He asked for people to send pictures in. George recognized me because I was one of the extras in the scene in Dogma when Ben and Matt showed up and signed all my parents comedy LP's of him. Awesome guy.

Jason Lee was a professional skateboarder before he was in all these movies and he almost got sued by Dr. Sues for having a cat in the Hat similar design on one of his professional skateboard decks. LOL! and the Nun in this movie is Carrie Fisher (Princess Leigha)
I saw Kevin Smith do a Q & A last week. One of the questions was how the hell did he get Mark Hamill for Jay and Silent Bob strike back. Apparently he wasn't the first choice but it fell through. Carrie Fisher suggest how about Mark Hamill. Apparently she called him up and made it happen.
Love that Jason Mews was “just some kid that was crazy funny that I knew in school.” The cop that arrested them in the beginning of the movie was Derek from Clerks.
I am an actor and I actually got to work on this film for a week. I played one of the Colorado police officers and had all of my scenes with Will Ferrell. Unfortunately Kevin Smith really shot way too many scenes and since Will Ferrell didn't have a lot of scenes with Jay & Silent Bob a lot of his scenes got cut, and so did most all of my scenes. I'm still in the background, but all of my lines were cut. I still get paid residuals for it though. So thanks for doing this. I did get to meet Mark Hamill at the cast party.
To be honest - I have avoided watching this reaction until I have seen the film for myself. I got the DVD from eBay today, watched it and then sought out your reaction. I love Kevin Smith films and it's a total experience watching Kevin react to movies himself - he is such a movie fanboy! I also love Dogma over the other films, but this one is a joy to see the previous films tied together.
That 'Mary with no hetero lifemate'... 😂😂😂 Can't tell you how much I'm lovin' your journey in this universe... I hope this means at some point you might do Smith's Jersey Girl, even if on yer own time. And according to Kevin, you at least get to see an old-aged Jay & Silent Bob ;)

This was actually the first film Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill did together since Return of the Jedi; and neither knew about the other until the film was released
The payback reference from Ben and Matt was because Kevin smith was more or less responsible for good will hunting being made in the first place, he went to bat for the script at the pitches to Miramax to give them credit
If you can find An Evening With Kevin Smith, you'll find out he LOVES to talk at length. The 2-disc DVD set is 225 minutes and he probably only answers like 6 questions.
Eliza Dushku(Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was one of the diamond thieves. American Pie was well represented (Jason Briggs, Sean William Scott, and Shannen Elizabeth).

Fucknn YESS FINALLY Brooo this the second reaction channel this week that’s reacted to ‘Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back’ this is gonna be a good birthday week! 💪🏾😂🎉
So baby silent Bob at the beginning of the movie is played by Kevin Smith’s real life daughter Harley Quinn Smith. And the driver for the diamond thrives is his wife in real life.
This is the first movie I was counting down the days until it came out, I love it so much. The one you should find is the degrassi special kevin smith made, jay and silent bob are in it with alanis Morissette.... it's so wild to see them in that setting
I love these movies. Kevin Smith did Gen-X proud! Also, the amount of cameos in this one.... My goodness! OH! Mary.... there's a movie that isn't set in this universe, per se, but has a cameo of Jay and Silent Bob. It's called "Fanboys". Also, Jason Mewes had a starring role in the movie "Noobz", which is also hilarious. I recommend both of those movies.
Will Ferrell's character Marshall Willenholly was named after the three characters from the television series "Land Of The Lost". Marshall, Will and Holly.
By the by, if you're looking for an underrated horror movie, Ben Affleck was in fact the bomb in Phantoms. Which was based on one of Dean Koontz's best books.
Something few people know is that this movie actually has a post credit scene. After the credits we see God again. Still being played by alanis morissette.and it shows her closing a book with “the Askewverse” printed on the cover. Implying that this was suppose to be the end of the Askewverse originally. But then they made Clerks 2 a few years later.
You missed Animal House references The Angels on Jay Shoulders and their tumbling around in the parking of the animal testing lab. The Fugitive references: The animal testing lab is called Provasic and Will Ferrell falling of the dam.
I was planning to see this movie with someone on September 11, 2001, but that plan changed. In the DVD commentary, Kevin Smith said that Carrie Fisher was a little irritated by Mewes. He also said that she did not want it to be about Leia and Star Wars, so it was before she really embraced the fandom and played into it as she would a few years later.
If you watch Magnolia make you sure you also watch Boogie Nights. Both were made by the same director and both movies feature a lot of the same actors.
Jay and Bob definitely cemented their relationship as being Brothers in this movie but Dante and Randall really cemented their relationship in clerks too I hope you get to see that
Dogma is my favorite too. This is my second favorite though because of the women. Those actor's have been in some of my other favorite movies and TV shows. When they get out of the van is always a favorite of mine. The women in the middle when they come out is Kevin Smith's real wife. You'll see his real daughter when you get to Clerks 3.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've always loved the Jay and Silent Bob movies. There real life friendship since childhood really shows and Kevin Smith in general is a really awesome person and a really good friend which is part of the reason he was able to get all these different people in his movies. Even the behind the scenes people talk about how awesome it is working with him and how nice he is to everyone. You do have to watch a lot of other movies to really appreciate this film though but if you have watched his other films it makes you appreciate it that much more. There's also a 2nd one that's good as well.
Funny enough, this was actually the first View Askew movie I saw when it came out in theaters. I had a friend who was a Kevin Smith fan and he had me come with him. Pretty soon after, I bought Clerks and Mallrats on DVD and watched Dogma at another friend's who had it on DVD. My friends liked to talk smack about Chasing Amy because they were insecure boys who thought it was cool to not like romantic comedies, so that was a limit on people I could talk about When Harry Met Sally and Annie Hall with. High school is stupid lol. ...oh yeah and Shannon Elizabeth is a Virgo
Will Ferrell played Marshal Willandholly, which is a reference to a Saturday morning kids show called "Land Of The Lost" where two of the characters are names Will and Holly Marshall. It aired in the early 70's so I don't expect a lot of people to catch that reference these days.
The Land of the Lost reference is a super DEEP CUT. Can still sing that opening song. That series needs to be streaming somewhere and I am off to find it.
Favorite reaction of Mary's. I LOVE this movie and the reboot. I place it 2 after Chasing Amy. All the cameos.. This was Kevin Smith at his height when he could get big name stars. The filmography slides after this but Clerks II (2006) and The Jay And Silent Bob Reboot (2019) are quality sequels to me in the universe.
Fun fact. In 2023, it's unthinkable that anyone doesn't know of the internet. It seems crazy that Jay and Silent Bob don't know what the internet is, but by the end of 2000, there were only 361 million users of the internet. It was still largely dial-up, and people were just beginning to buy computers. While it seems unlikely that they didn't know what it is, it's very likely that they never experienced it.
Hi Mary, when I was a younger man it was my favortie movie and i would watch it like once a month. Great reaction, and hope you keep it going. There are a ton of TV and movie references in thei movie and kudos to you to getting a lto of them on the first watch. One that is kind of fun is Will Farrell's character Marshall Willenholly. In the original Land of the lost TV show the three main characters were Marshall, Will and Holly. Also you probably know Will Ferrell starred in a modern version movie Land of the Lost. anyway, ther eis a ton of references in the movie, and you catch something new almost every time you watch it. Thanks for the reaction have fun!

I can't believe you didn't recognize Carrie Fisher.
The nun.
AFFLECK WAS THE BOMB IN PHANTOMS, YO!
Will Ferrell played Marshal Willandholly, which is a reference to a Saturday morning kids show called "Land Of The Lost" where two of the characters are names Will and Holly Marshall. It aired in the early 70's so I don't expect a lot of people to catch that reference these days.
He also later starred in the Land of the Lost remake as Dr. Rick Marshall.
I wonder if that actually led to him being cast as the lead in the actual movie adaptation of the Land of the Lost?
I literally just jumped on here because I saw you were watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Now I’m subscribing!
Yesss, was looking forward to this reaction! It’s my favorite Kevin Smith movie and not many people have reacted to it.
Can't wait till you get to the Jay and Silent Bob reboot. Clerks 3 turned out to be a good one too
I didn’t like reboot. Clerks 3 is great though.
Val Kilmer as bluntman, priceless.
In the credits of Mallrats, the are walking down the road with Suzanne the orangutan.
Also Will Ferrell plays Marshall Will N Holly which are the three characters names in land of the lost
When I had the DVD copy of this I probably watched it 100 times.
I can’t wait until you get to the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot movie. It’s a lot of fun
Please continue because Clerks 2 is one ofy favourite films.
Now this is a funny one.
Deuce Bigelow - European Gigalo(?) is quite hilarious too
Just found your channel and I must say it was a pleasure watching you react to it. Have a wonderful day!
