Probably because they only show up when a game isn't working correctly - it kind of taps into that primal fear of something that's just plain wrong and shouldn't be there.
I agree with a lot of the choices made. I absolutely love the ones that seem realistic to the game yet still have a very spooky vibe, such as the Miitopia one or the animal crossing wild world one. The jumpscare ones are well made also, but I feel like they try to be too scary to the point that it doesn’t work as well.
These are all genuinely terrifying, imagine someone sells you a pirated copy of one of these (especially odyssey) as a kid and you see that anti piracy screen, I would never play Mario games again
the best antipiracy screens for me are the ones that don't have a jumpscare but give you that feeling of existential dread. Like the wild world one. that, and it has to be subtle.
The most terrifying sound from Nintendo stuff a long time ago was the Nintendo 3DS’s “Nintendo ID deletion (if you own a 3DS you know which one) warning sound” i don’t know why it just genuinely terrified me
For me the most realistic and plausible ones are the best. That's why the first Mario Party DS video that started it all got viral, it looks legit and is not some low effort creppypasta type stuff.
Same thing with the Sonic 1 anti piracy screen. Not trying to be scary, but its obviously fake with the "and that's no good!" Really, it sounds like Sonic himself is saying it...
the acnh ones are honestly the best. they are realistic, not scary but just chilling and in a way creepier than the jumpscare ones. especially the one where they let you stay on the island even after they caught you but you are all alone, that is just scary in its own way.
One thing I love is that if these were real, other anti-piracy screens would say “No! Don’t pirate games! It’s illegal!” While Nintendo would go: 𝙮 𝙤 𝙪 𝙬 𝙞 𝙡 𝙡 𝙙 𝙞 𝙚 𝙞 𝙣 𝙚 𝙭 𝙖 𝙘 𝙩 𝙡 𝙮 𝙩 𝙬 𝙚 𝙣 𝙩 𝙮-𝙛 𝙤 𝙪 𝙧 𝙝 𝙤 𝙪 𝙧 𝙨.

The Nintendog got scurvy because the game was “pirated” lmao EDIT: Thanks for the likes. I make art and vaporwave music. Follow my Twitter, Bandcamp and SoundCloud if you like! twitter.com/Prismadoll
@@icantdeletethishelpme No, scurvy is a disease from lack of vitamin C. It was common for sailors and pirates because they ate hardtack biscuits and dried meat.
New Horizons pulled it off perfectly. Why? Because of the letter, you see. At the beginning of the game, you learn that you have applied for a special opportunity trip, and are currently booking in for your flight. The reason why the letter brings the video home is not just because of it's authenticity, which it totally has, but because of the lesson it teaches. If you go back and read the letter, you will notice the header: *"Your application for the Desert Island Getaway Package has been denied."* Now you may be thinking "yeah, what about it, why is that so special? And what do you mean by 'lesson'?" We all know that Nintendo markets for kids and families, so it would be no surprise if they wove in some well-meaning moral type stories or lessons. This rejection letter serves not just as an error message, but as a reminder and warning that quote-unquote *"Video game piracy is a serious crime and violation of the law."* and that people with a criminal record can have major restrictions in life, even if the crime is as petty as simple video game piracy. People won't want to hire a dishonest thief. People won't want to welcome a convicted criminal into their home country. People won't want to associate their kids with a bad influence. People won't want you, and people won't tolerate you. The message subtly drills into you or your child that criminals are slighted in life, no matter the severity of their actions. This is precisely something that Nintendo would do. Of course, this is like 98% likely not to be the case in terms of actual meaning, as the original creator was most likely thinking along the lines of "Yeah, this is simple and authentic. Just a classic ol' 'nope you can't play' screen while still keeping true to the game and it's plot" I am literally just here, in this comment section, right now, because I heavily overthink things and like to be incredibly dramatic! Anyway, I'm off to pirate some music - anyone want anything?
I remember from playing miitopia on the 3ds that the creepy music was actually in the game. It’s in the stage where you fight the darkest lord. It plays before the battle and it’s called “Darker lord’s domain.”
I want to see a Super Paper Mario one where it detects that it’s pirated and then you get stuck in the creepy swamp from the Underwhere, with that creepy music and all the hands
I may be wrong, but I believe in one installment of GTA, your camera would constantly sway side to side as if you were drunk if you had a pirated copy. Pretty annoying lol

Now I don't fault the creator of the game, it's just that for some reason, he wanted to base his game around Sonic.EXE, which by reading the story, sounds like a boring game that the kid is over dramatizing, so not much the source material gives you. I bet you this creator can possibly make a better game without the restriction of having it be a recreation of a snore fest, but I digress. Though I guess you can make your predictable "better than Sonic 2006 joke". However, just because you can, should you? Anyway, thanks for reading this essay.
Why are anti piracy screens so damn terrifying
Because you know you fricked up
Probably because they only show up when a game isn't working correctly - it kind of taps into that primal fear of something that's just plain wrong and shouldn't be there.
And addicting to watch at the same time
To scare you away from using pirate copies although it never works :p

The jumpscare ones are well made also, but I feel like they try to be too scary to the point that it doesn’t work as well.

@@icantdeletethishelpme
No, scurvy is a disease from lack of vitamin C.
If you go back and read the letter, you will notice the header:
*"Your application for the Desert Island Getaway Package has been denied."*
Now you may be thinking "yeah, what about it, why is that so special? And what do you mean by 'lesson'?"
We all know that Nintendo markets for kids and families, so it would be no surprise if they wove in some well-meaning moral type stories or lessons.
